It isn't slop but the new stuff is retarded and tries to wrap everything up in a nice little bow so that they can integrate it into the wider franchise.

The Switch version is okay. Like anon said, the new stuff is retarded and the redesigned characters suck s tad, but otherwise it's a fine version of the game.

It has fantastic world design/exploration but in virtually all other aspects, it's inferior to the numbered games (used to have the best side quests before 3 came out tho)

It's more of a fuck around game, with less focus on narrative and companions.
Quests and world design is pretty shit, as is the combat system (but that's true for all Xenoblade games).
And don't expect to get a robot anytime soon. That takes a while.
Switch version is better, since if fixes a lot of problems.

Because it's bad, simplistic and shallow while also amazingly enough being needlessly convoluted.

12's combat is dogshit compared to xenoblade. Positioning doesn't matter, there's no aggro system (decoy is the best its got), quickening are shit compared to chain attacks, one of the clunkiest rtwp menu hopping ever, characters hardly do more than 1 or 2 actions per battle, makes no use of the environment

Average jrpg player stops functioning if you ask them to do anything beyond basic turn based or action combat

Xenoblade's combat is an auto attack one and then has a limited selection of cooldown based skills with basic dial a combo shit (where you do the same shit over and over) or effectively QTE shit. Extremely repetitive and braindead.
Any "positioning" is braindead too, with modifiers boiling down to shit like doing more damage to a toppled enemy or attacking from the side. None of which is difficult.

This is not even touching on how awkward and convoluted it is. Like a tard taking checkers but then slapping a bunch of dumb modifiers while patting themselves on the back for making someting """deep""".
It's supreme casual slop. Someone trying to make turn based combat more "actiony" but failing spectacularly, making the worst of both worlds.

>limited selection
Each charactes uses more arts than the ones in 12 who use maybe 3 skills at most per battle (even less if you account for gambit auto heals and whatnot)

>auto attack
Not a complaint, auto attacks dont do much on their own and build up resources unlike 12 (except speed frame double hit seven in xc1 who is build around AAs with arts)

>dial a combo
Majority of arts are reactionary and not part of some dps combo (though X can have this with the MC but that games combat is broken on purpose). Arts are not aligned in a way to do a rotation, this is most apparent in xc1 with melia's kit

>positioning is braindead
Positioning's existence makes taking the environment and enemy placement (offensively and defensively) into consideration. Calling positioning braindead while simping for 12's combat is hilarious, it makes 12 an even bigger spam fest with abilities than it already is.

>12fag calling anything else awkward and convoluted when it has the some of the clunkiest and shittiest menu control of any RT game
Lol

You didnt even touch on aggro because you dont have a counter argument. There's also character specific mechanics which 12 lacks, along with general arts being more diverse than 12.

>Someone trying to make turn based combat more "actiony" but failing spectacularly, making the worst of both worlds.
this is exactly what 12 is though. Xenoblade isn't turn based oriented or taking turn based systems into consideration, it's RT + MMO with a slight touch of action in 2/3.

12 has no reason to be real time, it doesn't take advantage of any real time elements like xenoblade does with positioning, aggro, environments, and attacks actually accounting for space instead of being either single target or room wide AoE. Rather the real time nature of 12 just makes everything take too long with not enough going on to spice up the combat until you get to the post game optional content. Game is nearly unbearable without the speed up options of modern version or an emulator

I played it for a couple of hours over the weekend. The intro takes up way too much time, and the atmosphere/tone is all over the place.
>Humanity is on the brink of extinction
>It was the ayyleons
>You were rescued in the rain
>Here's a damaged pod. The person is dead! That could have been you!
>Here's a cute, nerdy, & autistic girl teehee
>Remember the ayyleons killed humanity
>Did I mention the ayys?!
Still, I think it's alright so far. It's near that you can use 2 weapons at once.

I will die on my hill about there being nothing "wrong" with mmo combat. Guild Whores 2 and Wild Star (RIP, the failure of that game deserves its own thread) have or had great combat. The problem with a lot of MMOs is the design. SWTOR has decent combat, but what ruins it is that for 90% of the time you're mindlessly mashing your activatable skills, and there's a lot of ability/activatable skill bloat.

It's an incredibly sloppily made game.
You can have quests marked as say level 6, but it marks an area where there are permanent level 40 enemies that 2 shot you.
There is no rhyme or reason to what level enemies are, you have everything from level 3 to level +50 enemies all over the map with no structure. Low level enemies look identical to higher level ones.
Exploration consist of glowing balls of resources or activate what is effectively just Ubisoft towers.
Quests are mainly just basic fetch or kill quests.
Narrative pacing is slow and exposition heavy for basic things.

How is a person dissecting your stance on a game's combat mechanics a signifier of fanboyism? Anon was right, you didn't have a real argument to counter his rebuttals. You're just assuming he's a Xenoblade fanboy because he didn't agree with you.
Replies: >>3795427
Anonymous
7/3/2025, 9:06:17 AM No.3795427

There is no dissecting.
It's also incredibly obvious how much of a biased fanboy is based on what he says, how he frames things (like pretending I'm a fan of 12, when that wasn't even implied and I not once praised it and that is even his focus), he is entirely 100% focused on defending Xenoblade, throws in unprovoked personal attacks (common in fanboyism), outright ignoring to comment on things they can't disprove to make their defence easier, and the list goes on.
If you don't think it's obvious he's a fanboy, you haven't been on this site long.

Second, trying to discuss any topic seriously with someone that is highly biased, irrational and already starting with personal attacks is a complete waste of time for both parties.
The fanboy won't challenge their ideas (because they're close minded) and the other party won't be able to challenge their ideas either nor even properly discuss the topic, so they just waste their time and effort.
Add on to the fact that this is 4chan and vrpg where pretty much no proper discussion like this ever goes down well and just turns threads into shitshows where threads are fucked up while the discussion either goes around in circle or the other party just shitposts.

tl;dr any rational person would be either insane or naive to waste time trying to discuss something with a zealous fanboy. I learned that lesson long ago on this site and stopped being naive enough to give people like this a chance.

I can guarantee even this post explaining this was a waste of time, since I'm most likely talking to the same anon or another fanboy. The only reason I replied is because I have shreds of naivete left so I don't outright dismiss people that might be different. Which you will now of course prove was a waste.

>So...uhhh, the games kind of decent is what I'm gathering?
Depends on what you're looking for.
How the world looks is nice and running around it is somewhat fun initially.
The story is whatever and not really a focus.
Characters are passable and few in numbers, or more or less just glorified npcs.
Music is overall solid. Voiceacting is fine.
You don't get a mech until relatively deep into the game.
Missions are not very good and is mainly just busywork.
Combat is very hit or miss. If the combat and limited character building doesn't look appealing to you you will not enjoy this game since it's combat heavy.

If you want to just run around in a mech, there are better games for that. If you want to explore a big open world, there are better games for that. If you want to follow an interesting story and likeable characters, there are better games for that.
Overall a mediocre game where the premise is better than the execution.

Xenoblade Chronicles is such an odd franchise.
On the one hand, the series should be pure normie repellant, and to a certain extent, it kind of is. The only JRPGs normies ever bring up are Final Fantasy and Persona (and MAYBE Kingdom Hearts if they're even a tad autistic). You're never gonna hear a normie nigger talk about Xenoblade. And if they do, it's usually because they're mad that Pyra and Mythra made it into smash over Master Cheif or Crash Bandicoot or something.
And that's another thing; I don't see a lot of tendies who actually like Xenoblade. There's some, but most (at best) show the franchise total apathy. I've seen countless Nintentoddlers mentally check out whenever Xenoblade pops up in directs because it's not Bing Bing Wahoo Man or Zelda. And like I said previously, Smash trannies see Xenoblade as just another "Anime Sword" franchise that takes up slots in their hecking deep part game.
But on the other hand, there are so many fucking Xenofags. I don't know how they manage to pop up literally everywhere, and with so many behind them as well. The fanbase is fucking massive (or at least a lot bigger than you'd think). And the series is clearly big enough to get itself four sequels and two remasters (all of which were financially successful to my knowledge).
Is there just something I'm missing?

The series doesn't actually sell that well, the main purpose of it is to just serve as a "we have rpgs too!" for Nintendo as a console exclusive.
It has a relatively small, but very vocal and passionate fanbase. But most people are indifferent to the series.

Online discussion isn't 1:1 with sales, it depends on how much of the fanbase is dedicated fans vs casuals who picked up the game due to marketing or whatnot.

Xenoblade isn't really a low selling jrpg either, each single xenoblade game on the Switch barring X DE have outsold entire trails arcs, a series that also gets a lot of discussion.

Yes because it is (and in case it wasn't obvious, I don't think it's good either). I won't get into why since that will feed the already autistic fanboys that already went offroad on a tanget on that comment alone.
It's beside the point anyway, because the main point was actually
>Because it's bad, simplistic and shallow while also amazingly enough being needlessly convoluted.
Which was completely ignored just so that fucktard could focus on 12 as if that was the relevant part.

Of course, fanboys sure do love to move goalposts to fling shit at another game endlessly to deflect from the problems of the game actually being discussed. But that just proves they cannot actually defend the game they want to defend, since otherwise they would've done so.

Yeah, most of the stuff you said is all in your head. You base fanbases on angry youtube or twitter comments instead of the real world. There are also many normies who played other JRPGs for example. There are also many Nintendo fans who played a number of JRPGs and then turned to love Xenoblade. The SNES was filled with JRPGs after all. And the GC and GBA both have a number of "babies first JRPG" on them.

Like the other games in the Xenoblade series, it does a lot of things right, and many things poorly. I personally enjoyed the game, but I'd be lying if I said exploring the games locations after a while ended up becoming tedious. I do enjoy the games combat though. I'd play a Xenoblade game over FFXII (if that means anything).
