Finished beating this game with the new DLC and was curious if there are other games like this out there? It doesn't have to be Asian themed, just looking for similar games where you can duel people to learn abilities and a similar combat style.

You're missing out. Expedition 33 was really good. This game was pretty fun. Has jank English that sounds retarded half the time, but the gameplay is fun. You might want to look up a companion guide if you care about recruiting everyone. There's not any handholding in the game and you'll probably miss a majority of the recruitable characters if you blind run. Lots of cutoff points for things.

It's not that bad. Every one in a while you'll run into a line that just sounds weird. Don't really remember any specific examples, but it didn't really detract from the game. Go watch a lets play or something if you want to look at the dialogue.

I haven't. Is it like a chibi version of wandering sword? Seems like similar combat with grid tiles, but less skills? Is it like a simplified version?

There is an octopath 2, but I wouldn't consider this game the same as octopath.

Well, Octopath 2 has a system where the character Hikari can duel NPCs to learn their moves
And it also has a system where you can beat up NPCs to take an item from them.

So the main difference would be one game has a positional grid based combat system and one doesn't.
But even without positioning, Octopath manages to have more strategy in fights than Wandering Sword.
I would actually say Wandering Sword's strength over Octopath is the story and not any of the gameplay stuff

The difference is that sparring in Wandering Sword is one of the main mechanics. In Octopath 2 it's a skill the 2 people can do at specific points in the game. In Wandering Sword if you don't spar you don't get good skills or weapon blueprints.
