For all I know they changed it, but back when I played it, Princeps was just the most boring one and all the others did their shit better. In particular Triarius basically broke the game by giving more turns to your team (like always, fucking with action economy reigns supreme) and if you preferred to do the doing yourself, Veles (a few levels in, once you could properly generate focus) fucking deleted enemies and zoomed around like a maniac due to abilities like Reaper... which also happened to fuck with action economy, go figure.
Saggitarius was pretty alright, could be made into a goddam machine gun, but I just don't care much for playing ranged personally lmao

No problem. Like I said, not sure if it still applies, I'm sure they made SOME changes in patches, but I haven't played it since the first time. Archers and the dual-wielding DPS class are by far the strongest. "Most fun" kind of depends on what you find fun, if you want to clear maps in a single turn pick one of those, if you want the most challenge possible play the gladiator class.

We know for a fact that the original citizenry had atrocious birthrates by then, and the army was straight up majority Romanized foederati one or two generations into citizenship all the way up to the tribunes - the campaigns were long, casualties traditionally high, and loot inconsistent. If you were a proper and well-established white Italic Roman citizen with property as opposed to a syriafaced Romulus Totalus mystery meat with nothing aside from his dad's fresh citizenship to his name, service in the army as anyone below tribune was an absolute shit prospect for you. Legionaries getting very little and wanting much more was one of the major drivers behind the crisis of the republic. Granted there were probably no straight up subsaharans among those la creaturas, but the legionaries were anything but statuefaced pale gigachads by that point.

Strong defensive class, but never gets amazing and is kinda boring to play. Shields are really good but Principes tend to be a bit limited in their gameplay options and their damage never gets great either.
>Veles
Starts off kinda meh but get incredibly OP after level 10 or so, easily the strongest class overall which can potentially beat levels all on their own.
>Sagittarius
Long range is very useful and their damage isn't bad, but they suck ass against shielded units and get wrecked when someone gets too close.
>Triarius
All round class except better than Princeps in every way except defense. Gets a strong offense, good defense (though no shield), better range than other melee classes, and the best support options. Can get really strong in the long run with a good pike, but not "ruin the lategame difficulty curve" strong like Veles and works best in combination with other classes.

Overall I would say Triarius is the best MC class, especially since Syneros is best used as a healer/support unit due to his unique healing skill, so you can have your MC focus on damage and end up with a strong and versatile build. Your other option if you just want to be as poserful as possible is Veles. Make sure you have some ways to get more focus points and you'll end up getting disgustingly powerful. Defense doesn't matter if you kill everyone in one turn anyway.

I wouldn't pick Princeps or Sagittarius for your MC. It's not that they're not viable but I've never really seen a reason to want more of those classes than the NPCs you get anyway.

Depends on the character. Callida would definitely be labeled as a feminist character by you sensitive types, but Deianeira just wants to be a tradwife and wear pretty dresses and Syneros hates women in general. Overall it would be better to think of it as historical fan-fiction (you meet a young Julius Caesar at the start of the game and you pretty much take his place in history) than a completely historically accurate game. Even if you disregard the (relatively mild) supernatural aspects it's still full of inaccuracies.
