>enhanced 2025 remaster
>nothing has actually changed or improved
>that'll be $35 please
how the fuck is this even legal?
I just wanted controller support and less shitty camera. That already sold me.
But hey, at least on GOG you get a decent discount on the new version if you own NWN2 Complete already.
>>3805049 (OP)The UI is bigger.
As are the file sizes.
What more do you need?
>>3805053for that filesize I demand a full Oblivion makeover on an improved engine. what a grift
>>3805051How so? Guess they finally started to learn, after they missed profit three times consecutivesly.
>discountHow much?
>>3805060They likely let an ai loose and statistically checked if everything is alright.
Apparently the only real thing "enhanced" is now it's in higher resolution, and for that you now have a gigantic install and long loading times.
Can't believe they pulled a Bethesda with the hi-res textures
Well, no, I can, it was obviously a lazy cash grab, but still quite the fucking decision
i think i tried this like 20 years ago and quit early on. should i give it another shot? i do like baldurs gate style games
>>3805561You're at least in your 30s and you still ask for people to hold your hand and tell you what games to play?
lmao
>>3805049 (OP)Why did two of the most iconic games of all time, BG 1/2, get the Lucas treatment where it's illegal to play the originals, but the notorious abortion game that was only saved by the expansion's writing, has the original version preserved and still legally available?
>>3805654If you buy the BG "EE"s on GOG, you get the originals as a free bonus. Still fucked up, I agree.
>>3805145>how much25% off. so it's 30ish bucks and you save about 7.5. cashgrabby meme enhanced edition yes but that's not exactly expensive.
>>3805518thats the thing though, there arent any high res textures it looks identical.
>>3805049 (OP)>>nothing has actually changed or improvedIt's somehow 10 times the file size just to add controller support and higher resolutions. Who the fuck plays CRPGs with a controller anyway?
I can't believe people actually buy this shit.
not played but is the huge increase in size due to added cutscenes or video?
>>3805796cutscenes are films that play at key points in the story.
first week of video games?
>>3805793yes except no there's literally 0 added content
>>3805799they didn't add any cutscenes, stinkpreet
I dont understand how and why this game is so janky and unresponsive, it feels like you're playing one of these old MMOs like Lineage, laggy inputs, rubber banding, shit draw distance that makes monsters appear out of nowhere , awful pathing and a plethora of other issues.
>>3805869>shit draw distance that makes monsters appear out of nowhereThis is on Obsidian for not having the encounter triggers and the spawn points out of view of each other. They did it just fine in the original NWN, but Obsidian's designers had an amateur-level understanding of how to make levels.
>>3805049 (OP)I'd be mad if I hadn't paid something like 10 bucks for it.
Did they actually made mouse+keyboard play worse or am I hallucinating?
>>3805899>actually paying for this travestyI'm mad on your behalf, but at you also.
Do the textures really look the same?
>>3806014No, they look like they occupy more disk space.
>>3805899>Did they actually made mouse+keyboard play worseYup. But don't worry, they added controller support so you can play it like a console peasant, despite the game never being designed for that so it still plays like shit.
>>3806014Nah they're upscaled. Still not worth paying for since you can just play the original with a mod for the textures and experience the same thing excvept with a less bloated filesize.
>>3805049 (OP)>Nothing has actually changedHey, it crashes more.
A lot more.
It's unplayable in this state. Genuine scam.
>>3806014https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSBQW7FbqN0
there better but only really noticeable on characters
>>3805049 (OP)Remember how we used to laugh NWN1EE was half-assed? Damn.
>>3805869Obsidian didn't use Aurora, they made their own fork of Aurora engine from Bioware and tried to bite off more than they could chew.
Tale as old as their company when it comes to riding Bioware and Beth's coattails with sequels to RPG's on the same engines the earlier companies used.
Anyone tried the Baldur's Gate mod in EE? Does it run well?
>>3805049 (OP)>bloated file size for no noticable gain>breaks some mods and many modules>introduces new bugsThis most likely will not recieve extended support like NWN1EE did, so nothing will drastically change.
There is no reason to play this over the Complete version over at GOG.
>bigger uijust use Tchos HD UI mod
>controller supportgot me there, but unless youre playing on the steamdeck or switch, why would you be using a controller to play this
>>3806942according to the RPGCodex thread:
>BGR itself and the Silverwand Enhancements addon appear in working order, but the Conversation Overhaul addon (which switches most dialogue to party panels) bugs the Main Menu campaign selection, all entries point to BGR.
>>3805049 (OP)>defeat boss Ammon Jerro>he joins the party>weak as a weak weakling
Anyone getting bugged combat sound effects? Can barely hear them
>>3807028Well you did free all his demons/devils that were making him overpowered.
>>3806503That reminds me a lot of the video for the forthcoming Dawn of War remaster. Like yeah, everything is technically better, but just marginally.
The lighting, shadows, and foliage are noticeably improved though, I guess.
>>3805793IMO they probably upscaled textures
>>3807028>>3807329Yeah, I'd argue it's one of the few examples where they actually explained the reason, the dude was never outrageously powerful by himself, but all the pacts he's made let him do far greater things than he'd otherwise be capable of.
Which is funny because it's actually very accurate to the tabletop, someone with Planar Binding can power-boost beyond reason if they're smart about it. Action economy ain't the only reason summoning is overpowered.
>>3806014no but you won't notice it playing the game
>>3805049 (OP)Seriously? NWN2 got Obsidianed to shit, fucking half the game is on the cutting room floor and they just "upscale" some textures?
Honestly, gamers deserve to get ripped off for being shameless goysloppers.
>must buy every REEEEMASTER REEEEEMAKE REEEEEBOOT
The real problem with NWN2 was the horrid jank engine. Not only did they do nothing to fix or change this, they actually made it worse with more bugs and even less stability.
What a monkey paw.
>>3807476>people deserve to be ripped off for being ripped off>>3807488>rebuild the entire engine and make 30000 sales on this old ass game that isn't well regardednwn2 thread, lmao
>>3807489ergo don't touch it in the first place
>>3807028Warlock is a shitty class. Rather take wizard class and specialize to conjurer or necromancer if you want to roleplay as demon summoner/dark sorc.
>inferior to modded vanilla
Really desperate to cash in on the BG3 hype that still lingers in 2025.
>>3807476>>3807488its not a scam if you want to play this on the switch or deck
its not a scam if you think better camera movement is worth the money by itself
>>3807569So we're in agreement that it's a scam then
>>3805049 (OP)EE has more grass and broken wagon at the start of the game is more brown.
>>3805049 (OP)>sorry the original is no longer available, $35 :)The controls are just as shit as they always were. They only remaster the price.
>>3805146NVidia released some shit a while back that more or less does that. These remasters can probably be barfed out in a matter of months
Reminder that there's NEVER been an Enhanced Edition made for any game that was worth it and you who think differently are consumacucks.
>>3807911It's still available on gog but Hasbro hasn't put it on sale in years.
>>3805049 (OP)Nice QA you got there, Aspyr.
>>3807946Good thing you can just YARR-HARR huh?
>>3807548IDK, maybe it sucks on DnD Hardcore/actual TTRPG rules for 3.5, but as long as you have 2-3 tanks, are about level 10 or so to where you have the burning chain arcane blast, it can clear out most of Act 1 easy peasy. Having the burning effect helps with the Green Trolls that won't die unless Acid and/or Fire is thrown at them once they're "near death."
Class only sucks if you don't have some warm bodies to tank hits to where the group enemies are able to beat your face in since you can't equip medium armor without a casting penalty and knockdown will kill your entire summon chain as you wait to get back up.
>>3807476I only bought it because CD Project and Obsidian don't fix the original's progress bug on Win 10/11. I'm now on Act 2, something I tried THREE GODDAMN TIMES (even spamming the console to speed up act 1) on the GOG release but couldn't progress past the introduction in the bar because a party member (Jero and Sand) didn't show up to where the progression would get bugged and you couldn't leave without crashing.
EE is worth the $30, bugs
>>3808091 and all just for that alone.
Fuck GOG if they can't be assed to do some work even half-assedly as Aspyr did in that regard. If you're selling a game, I should be able to at least get to the end with no progression issues, graphic glitches like the quote aside.
>>3807007>why would you be using a controller to play thisController is nearly 50/50 on Steam now a days, anon. More and more console-to-PC switchers are using controllers for their stuff unless it's a FPS and even then (sanctioned cheats with the ridic auto-aim).
I can't imagine playing NWN1-2 or CRPGs with a controller though, just like Diablo and ARPGs.
>>3808097It'd probably be better to use your time to play some decent video game rather than subsidising cashgrab remasters.
>>3808099I use controller for almost every action game. Even modded Skyrim and Diablo 2 Resurrected.
But a party based real time with pause DnD RPG...
IMO only the turn-based hex or square grid tactical RPGs and dungeon crawlers work well with controllers, which already have significant history on consoles.
>>3808097>worth $30NWN2 is the shittiest fucking game ever made in the genre, it also contributed to some of the shittiest gimmicks and shit that has carried over into other games.
The biggest crime - though, granted, they weren't the first to do it like this - is the "cinematic" dialogue. Instead of a textbox with all the dialogue, you need to click, click, click and click to get through two sentences.
>>3808295The remaster is the shittiest version of the game, but the game has some merit.
Like NWN1 its expansions are superior to the OC, and while to a far lesser degree than NWN1, it still has some nice modules.
The cinematic dialogue was done away with in SoZ with the party conversation box, and was used in most modules rather than the original cinematic closeup camera.
Theres a sub-mod for BGR that does exactly this.
Another reason to replay this.
I think it still holds up if you can get through janky controls.
It's a bit harder than I remember at least before you get full party.
We've came a really long way in terms of quality of life with Pathfinder and BG3.
>>3808099>I can't imagine playing NWN1-2 or CRPGs with a controller though, just like Diablo and ARPGs.NWN1 and DAO are great on Deck if you set up proper custom controls. D2R plays really well on a controller.
>>3808295>it also contributed to some of the shittiest gimmicks and shit that has carried over into other gamesDoesn't that mean it was a success?
>>3808099diablo games arer way better on a controller
>>3805049 (OP)What is the best way to get Tower Shield Proficiency? I'm playing a Tiefling Cleric, eventually going for Stormlord. I was planning on picking up monkey Grip to use a shield and I was wondering how to pick up Tower Shields in the least costly way. Is it worth the XP penalty to dip Fighter? Are tower shields even worth it?
>>3808680I wouldn't go Monkey Grip AND Tower Shield. Each of those two things lowers your BAB by 2. Go one or the other. I prefer Monkey Grip and a two handed falchion in one hand with a regular shield in the left. I suppose as a fighter/weapon master you could offset the penalties, but at that point I'd just put a falchion in each hand and dual wield them.
>>3808699Stormlord restricts you to Spears or thrown weapons so my weapon choices are limited. Thanks for the tip on Towershields
>>3808699>I wouldn't go Monkey Grip AND Tower Shield.>>3808704>StormlordI played Stormlord through NWN + MoB and it was with both of those feats. IIRC I got it by dipping a level into Fighter.
>>3808680You get +2 shield ac in exchange for -2 to attack. It's not worth it.
Do you guys reckon Aspyr will patch the game with some actual improvements eventually or is this as good (or bad) as the EE will get?
What's their track record with post launch support of remasters and such?
>>3808680>>3809046I think I remember that build being floated around back in the day. I think the idea was that stormlord got a free enhancement bonus to their spear that stacked with everything else, so they had "free ab they could waste" in order to have both tower shield and a spear.
I don't see the tower shield's benefit being justified, even more so if you have to dip fighter just for that.
An extra 2 AC over a normal heavy shield isn't going to account for much I'd think.
>>3808680Does the remaster have an option to auto-cast Shock Weapon? In the original playing a Stormlord was super terdious because you had to reactivate the ability every 4 seconds even tough it has infinite uses.
>>3809844>Does the remaster have an option to auto-cast Shock Weapon?I'm sure it does anon.
>>3807569Its not a scam if you just wanted more patch work (QoL) to be done on the ga... oh wait they might not do any patches.
>>3808680>>3808699Speaking of Monkey Grip they forgot to add giant weapons to the game.
>>3809844iirc the mod Warlock Buddy lets you autocast it?
>$35 mod that adds more bugs at a gorillion times the size
lmao

Aside from the obvious issues with the enhanced edition, just how do the Neverwinter games stack up after all this time? They seem to be very polarizing from the discussions I've observed over the years.
No one ever talks about WNN 2 custom modules like they do for 1, how are they?
Influence system has always sucked in rpgs.
>>3810699People remade Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale as custom modules/campaign for NWN2.
There are a couple really cool modules like path of evil too. I remember one elder scroll style rogue like type module, but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me.
>>3810706Been meaning to play BG mod.
What's the difference between the Nexus version and the Vault version?
It sucks that you can't reconcile Sand and Qara
>>3810853For me that was a good thing, getting to put Qara down was a highlight.
Kek based, eat your sloppa zoomer shit
>>3810853It sucks that Bishop doesn't get a redemption arc and just bails out at the end.
>>3807945You are correct. Tjat said, Jeff Vogel's Avernum series is a well done remake of the original. Improvements all across the board. Truly inspired.
>>3805579Many such cases.
>>3811493>Only 4 party members>Much smaller spell list
i tried, i really tried to give it a fair chance, maybe i was overly critical of it back then, i thought - no, the game is shit, the writing is shit, the characters are uninspired caricatures and its a boring, unrewarrding slogfest. im tired of killing orcs for 27xp a pop, resting, rebuffing, and doing it again. im tired of forced cutscenes and cringeworthy humor. i get to this trial part and i do all the side quests to help my case. my character has high charisma and great social skills, i run circles around the accusser - end up in trial by combat. the outcome would be the same if i was a 3 int orc who only growled from the stand. no i do not want to micromanage my keep because it has zero impact on the ultimate battle and is pointless wankery. fuck this shit
>>3811630Would it surprise you to learn that the keep having zero impact is because of cut content?
>>3811634not at all but even if it was more fleshed out i do not think i would find this aspect all that appealing in a game like neverwinter nights 2; to me it feels as tacked on as the crusading system in pathfider wotr
more like refund nights 2
>>3811493The original Exile Trilogy is superior.
