What is good & bad in the Final Fantasy 7 expanded universe?

My opinions

Good:
> First game, minus most of the Engrish mistranslations
> The idea of prequels, if not the execution, especially involving Zack

Bad:
> Angeal
> Genesis
> Sephiroth voluntarily jumping into the life stream
> the movie
> retcons to the original game

>Sephiroth voluntarily jumping into the life stream

Sephiroth has been thrown by Cloud into the lifestream. He didn't jumped by himself even because his torso was half cutted, in that moment. He shouldn't been even able to walk away, honestly.

Yes, that's the point. It lessens Cloud's character arc too.

I think a prequel from back when the Chocobo Sage was a young man would be very comfy. 1900 era tech with chocobos, materia existing as a rarity, people training their own skills instead of using materia. If it were easier to mod fields, the overworld, and backgrounds in FF7 I'd do it.

It would be nicer to have a larger world map with more stuff in the extra space too. Remove all that mako reactor blight, go for a bright shining anime feel.

I like Cissnei, the extra screentime for characters who didn't get much in the original like Yuffie/Vincent/Cait Sith, Zack in general. Fuck everything they've done with Sephiroth since the original frankly.

Some of the Avalanche characters are pretty good, as are the Turks in Before Crisis. I agree with you as well.

I don't think they understand that the setting itself is a character, and that we want to ramble around the world at a leisurely pace sometimes.
