Then I stupidly saved after using the random teleport enemies or whatever and got stuck on the man island or whatever, luckily there was an ending if you beat the dungeon there so I technically finished it but I missed 80% of the game

I think it's important to consider how the game started. It was originally a game jam game made in a week (Dungeon Crawler Jam 2024), which then got expanded into a full game. So the look of the game was originally decided in the context of "what's neat looking that I can throw together in a week."

The full game looks way better than the game jam version though.

It's not about quality, it's about the style. The developer clearly can do fine spritework, he just consciously chose a style that looks bad. Reduce the stupid ass dithering on everything by 75% and it may look passable.

I'm 45, I don't care about "graphics", I've played dozens of newer graphically simplistic or stylized games and enjoyed them. I do care about aesthetics and readability and this shit looks awful to play.
