Despite the cape fatigue zeitgeist, I think superheroes are a really underutilized concept or setting when it comes to RPGs. Despite the CRPG revival, nobody has tried adapting the Mutants & Masterminds systems. Barely anyone talks about Freedom Force even though the combat is funner than Baldur's Gate. The east is guilty of this, too. When My Hero Academia got popular, you knew they were going to make vidya using that IP. It sounds like easy money. Either an action rpg or turnbased rpg where you deal with school adventures or an original story. Maybe throw in dating sim autism so people can bang Mount Lady or Todoroki. That's at least a million copies right there. You want to know what they did? They made a generic anime fightan game and live service garbage.
So, what gives, anons?

Superhero media fans are normies who hate RPGs. Midnight suns is a particular case of a disconnect between creator and target audience.

There's been a few games that tried to be Freedom Force but none of them succeeded, usually because they had none of the charm... or the gameplay... or the funny characters... or the music... or anything else.

>Superhero media fans are normies
This is a nonsense point. Not only do we know that RPGs can appeal to "normies" (BG3, Skyrim, Persona, Clair Obscura, ARPGs as a whole), but before Marvel shat out a billion films a year the only superhero fans were fucking nerds. That's the core RPG audience. Those fucking nerds still exist too, there's really no excuse.

There's really a shocking lack of non-licensed cape games across all genres. I would kill for another game like infamous or prototype.

Fans of these games are not really normies as a whole
Superhero fans / MCUfags are the normiest of normies

I think Sentinels of Freedom was the single biggest ball-drop I've witnessed in that regard, because you can tell how badly they want to be Freedom Force and just how they fail in every single area.

Rent-A-Hero comes to mind, both Genesis and Dreamcast games. Though Genesis version is a tiny better, I think.

Basically, you get a superhero costume by mistake and use its powers to get a reputation for yourself - starting from saving cats and beating Yakuza by the end. It starts very slow though.

Not being a normie doesn't mean being special snowflake either.

A mutant or superhero Diablo-clone could be pretty fun. Every class could be a different set of powers, and you could have equipment and extra skillsets to further expand what abilities your characters have.
