>think "wow finally I'll get to experience Runescape's design with a clean slate again"
>barely get 5 hours in and then quit
Did my sense of wonder die or is this just not really well made?
It's grindy even for a singleplayer game, most of it screams low quality one man amateur dev(especially the UI, like you couldn't have a parchment look to it instead of this sterile greyish blue RS3 interface), the quests aren't fun mini point and click adventures and are mostly instead themepark MMOs go here kill X goblins get Y resource and come back(the murder investigation was an exception I'll give it that) and overall it's just like the worst parts of Diablo, Runescape and any indie CRPG combined. Did this get any better on launch, or did I just quit it too early and it's actually really good later on or is it just an overall disappointment?
