i dont need to nitpick it since its core gameplay is shit without some kind of bliblical counter weight to that like arcanum. that's why you started playing witcher with 2 or 3 where they made the combat less shit. its cool man i get it, witcher 2 and 3 had great atmosphere where you go into the tavern and the dirty peasants are brawling. had a few decent quests. had flaws too but i get it, but you have lost the plot trying to call doo doo dogshit gameplay a 'unique combat system' to ape fandoms like fallout where they say the first game is the best.

I have personally liked it as a fan project of the books, have doubts about the 2nd (they took like ONE single dwarf character from the books who wasn't a pottymouth at any point and turned him into a funni tarded pottymouth in the second, for starters, unless the guy just happened to share the name and surname with the cool one) and 3rd being ones but the first one was really "from fans to fans". I enjoyed how "uninvolved" the combat was with Geralt doing most of the works because Witchers are superhuman master swordsmen so of course an average player wouldn't be as fast as him.
Of course, there are a share of things it got wrong or headcanonned (like the mage villain trying to go melee on Geralt at a couple of key moments and getting his ass beat when canonically even average mages can just instantly fry a Witcher with far superior magical firepower) but it is fun.

It gets pretty weird, since W1 plot was basically using Triss as a stand-in for Yennefer, and Alvin as a stand-in for Ciri. But at face value, Triss is taking advantage of Geralt's amnesia to slide in and fill Yenn's role, and then spends the rest of the series being all pouty when she's found out, refusing to take any responsibility or accountability for her actions. Teenage me thought this was a silly plot hole, only decades later did I realize that this is accurate and realistic.

Geralt, on the other hand, wanted to cut it cleanly after everything. She never got over him but that didn't stop her from picking the Lodge over Geralt, Ciri and Yen.
