What's the best weapon out there? For me it's the halberd, a thinking man's choice.
Fuck gay-ass swords; they're supposed to be side weapons, but shitty Arthurian legends memed them into the best weapon. Not to mention fucking katanas, they should be ceremonial weapons.

Do you think weapon types should be tied to character class?
>duelist get duel weapon pistol or sabre or espadon or something
Not axe and shield, and he is a duelist only on paper because of better stats.

No. I hate that. If anything, armor is tied to class, but only specific armor. It does depend on may things, but personally I like weapons to be available to all. If there are restrictions, make it stats or talents, not class.

A big stick.
>>3822882
No, but weapon skills should be tied to class. You can pick up an axe no matter what, but an axeman will be better with it due to skills and perks.
Wielding certain types of weapons should be restricted by the location you're in.
>duelist and shields
Buckler was made for them.
>>3822929
Not really, but they got really popular towards 15-16th century. Mostly due to cost, you need a lot less metal to make a spear.

Right, it got popular around that time. Truth is, halberd is not what they called the weapons in picrel. Them weapons in picrel aren't even identical. Those pole weapons did evolve over time, too. Nothing beats a pike in terms of raw power. Unfortunately you'll never hit anything with it in close combat, unlike the halberd, awesome weapon.

I thought they were universal. Tartars used bucklers, and they rarely fought on foot.

For me is seeing repurposed tools in the battlefield; think about axes, pikes or scythes sharpened or made out of better materials.
Also, spears and halberds are too unwieldy for my taste. I always pick hammers, maces and others for my charactes to make it close and personal.
>>3822882
I think it's great when you can equip whatever to your characters but they get clear bonuses and penalties if the weapon "doesn't feel right" for the character class, like a cleric performing poorly if you give him a greatsword instead of a mace or staff.

Bucklers are quite puny, they go halfway to you elbow at their largest and are held by a central handle in the middle, with no straps. Very small things that will do you no good in battle but ideal for 1 on 1 duels.

There is no best weapon, it depends on the enemy, the environment, and the technology of the setting. Specialization is for insects and soldiers, a true warrior masters many arms.

Halberds are for use in tight, disciplined infantry formations where it's hard for enemies to get under your guard.
Try using one in a chaotic RPG brawl, and you'll get kebabbed by a sword-user in an instant.

It works fine for dynamicsโ€”you shoot one bandit with a crossbow, switch to a lance to take another from horseback, and unsheathe a sword to fight the rest. For example.

Well, Romans developed shortsword shock troops specifically to deal with the samnites, even before the adoption of the gladius as the dominant style. And the final encuckening of samnites as a cultural group wasn't till sulla anyways. But the style doesn't really matter to me as long as sword shamers bleed.
