Just how hard will this flop when it comes out?
Anonymous No.3829135 [Report]
4camp for the most part never played it
I would guess around 20000-30000 units sold from preorders alone
we'll see if UE5 will shit itself along the way

Man all the ads and previews for it are so bad
They don't understand the appeal at all and they just rub a bunch of lame fantasy writing in your face

played both teaser and Nyras demo
the demo
>visual clarity on the screen once again fell victim to UE5, difficult to distinguish between floor clutter and usable objects
>combat went from witcher/for honor to mediocre floaty swing spam
>interface is still atrocious
>lumen and other sun related shit up the ass
>archery kind of stiff, hitboxes on animals are weird

They're trying to appeal to nostalgia with their marketing but they just don't get that most people who played Gothic in the 2000s are now 30-40 years old with wife and kids and the remaining fanbase is a handful of reddit autists and a few thousand obsessed polish slavshits. Not even germans care or even know about gothic anymore.

it'll probably sell well, there's been a lot of word of mouth for gothic over the years. all the people who don't play old games will want to "get in" on the experience. don't know if it'll leave any impression beyond that though, but it'll definitely sell and become streamer bait.

I think it has real appeal if they'd try to sell it as this peasant ape masculinity power fantasy experience. Like show the MC getting tortured for money by some thug guard and then the MC later in the game turning the tables on the same guy. Not some generic voice actor rambling on about fantasy shit.

Super hard. I do not see any possible audience for this game. The autists keep replaying old Gothic games or mods and they will not enjoy changes to the formula, while zoomers won't be interested in it.

Check the specs . Half these fucking PC games are justifications for overpriced pacifiers. Don't fucking insult my intelligence.

Unless they do something outrageous like adding troons, gay romance or woman power bullshit(highest chance considering runaway women camp added) polish 30+yo autists alone will recoup the dev costs
I see no chance of it gaining significant amount of new audience tho

Even back in the day the Gothic games only averaged 300k-400k sales each. Slav PC gamers have always been poor as shit that's why, along with the more lax IP laws there, historically the majority of the world's piracy sites stem from Eastern Europe. That's WHY they're PC gamers in the first place since consoles were actually more expensive for a long time.

>Poland
Maybe they had poor wages 20 years ago but rn they are more or less on par with other eu shitholes
Market changed a lot during the time too
As i said unless they anger autismos they'll get at least 500k sale no matter the quality
Anonymous No.3831172 [Report]
lmao poles really are cucks to germans, latching onto gothic like that.

Blech. I remember thinking you could do a lot to humanize the women Gomez traded for to get a slave harem but a camp of women would just get yoinked instantly or the hypermasculine chimpanzee prison camp atmosphere of the VoM is gone.

I want to play it because I hated the controls of gothic 1 and the game would not run properly on my computer even if I could get used to the controls, and I'm just not interested in trying to fix gothic 1 on my computer either so I will never play the game otherwise. . I am going to wait and see if the game has okay reviews and determine from there if it's worth it. Gothic 2 and Archolos are among the best cRPGs I've played so I'm definitely interested in this even if it has a modicum of that magical feeling those games gave me.

See Baldur's Gate 3 & Oblivion. A bunch of normies bandwagoned once those games came out. Doesn't really matter how old a game is if a remake is hyped. I imagine if KotOR gets remade, it'll be the same thing.

>Visual clarity on the screen once again fell victim to UE5
This. I tried playing the demo & found it completely disgusting. Modern developers really believe that something is visually more appealing the closer it is to "reality" which is utterly false. I've finally realized after years & years of gaming that I really only visually enjoy games made between 1996 - 2004. To me, they had the perfect amount of polygons & detail without it being oversaturated. The more designers strive for "reality" the more generic everything becomes.

Agreed.

Gothic has a huge fanbase and a shitload of mods.

The original developer, although almost all the personnel was exchanged over time, developed some atrocious games like Risen 2 and 3 and Elex 1 and 2, that would have been huge disasters if done by any other company.
Yet, those titles all sold 0.5M+ units each, which was enough to keep a AA studio in the game and at least pay for the development costs.

The remake will also sell at least that much.

If you look at the remake as objectively as possible, you will find that the locomotion and combat are horrible and that the developers don't really get what made gothic good. Way too much handholding, too much modern game cancer, world not very convincing, female guards, pointless structures, none of the old issues and logic errors fixed, retarded use of torches.
But it looks really nice overall. Music is done by the old master. Old voice actors are in too. Huge nostalgia factor here, despite the remake being shit in terms of gameplay.

I give it another +500k for the fact that it's a visually appealing fantasy rpg, which aren't exactly as common as passable souls clones or shooters etc.

The original gothic was outstanding at the time of release in terms of visuals, setting / plot / dialogues / quests, world design, combat, character progression and exploration.
The sequel doesn't do any of these things better than the original, some things even worse.

So I guess around 1M sales in the first year and another 500k over the next 5 years at best.

Personally, I wouldn't buy it, because I am not retarded enough to waste my time on a remake of a game I already know that has either the same or worse gameplay than the original.
On the other hand, if you enjoy playing games and have nothing else to do in life, you don't exactly get a lot of fantasy rpgs each year, right?

Personally wouldn't mind of they added more content of the women within the colony as all they really did was repeating the lines of how they ain't meant to be speaking to others

As long it keeps within the themes of gothic 1 of being stuck in a prison colony with murderers, thieves........and Mud that the idea of strong women able to handle themselves around them would be silly I won't mind. Maybe something more subtle, like someone who acts clueless and the typical tavern wench in fantasy games to find out she some assassin, could see a character like that at the new camp than at the old or sect camp

female guards what
Anonymous No.3835144 [Report]
>>3835102
well that could be mandela effect, but I swear I saw some a female guard in either one of the screenshots or a video of the mine and that has been discussed somewhere else too

but that is also the most minor of all the things
one or even two female guards are somewhat explainable if they are fridgemode hulks like that actress in game of thrones, or a 4d chess burn scar victim and not instathots in armor

>>3834875
yeah

a female mage that shelters other women would also be a thing of possibility
or some mage without balls, an eunuch mage
just everything in moderation

even back in the day fucking nobody played Gothic 2 because of the all keyboard controls. I'll definitely try it. The story seems pretty good from the videos ive seen on this game. Kind of wierd they're remaking the sequel before the first game tho isn't it?

This is an opinion. This may be a common opinion, but it's still an opinion.

I think that nerds should try and appreciate what we already got.
Once computer tech limitations got surpassed and/or companies focused on much graphixxx to try and appeal to normies, the content draught has begun
>but there are still good games with modern graphics
I don't dispute that. I'm saying that focusing on style instead of "realism" would free up vast amounts of resource to make a fun game. But alas, instead of a few Gothic games with complex worlds and less shit controls, we got a few """Gothic""" games with impressive graphics and little else.

Pirahna Bytes gets meme'd on for "making the same game without inovating" but they did not do that. They made expensive games with kinda shit controls that appealed to no one. That's why people talk about Archolos, and not Elex.
>tl;dr

I hope it won't flop, solely because they brought Kai for this and the MF made the OG soundrack when he was like 20. Gonna treat this as what it is, a fan project, and not compare it to the original that I played an entire summer vacation.

It really bugs me when I consider what absurdely massive and complex worlds devs could create if they would just optimize and focus on gameplay instead of shoehorning the nect forced Nvidia usp gimmick in their game.
And then the graphics aren't even that good. Fucking skyrim panaroma still looks absolutely astonishing today, that game is over a decade old and from Bethesda. Meanwhile we sit here and get the same gameplay depth or even less over and over again so that puddles of water on the street can dynamically act as mirror surfaces.

Not true. My friend and I played Gothic 2 back in the day with a keyboard and mouse, and the controls were perfectly fine.
