Agreed.
Gothic has a huge fanbase and a shitload of mods.
The original developer, although almost all the personnel was exchanged over time, developed some atrocious games like Risen 2 and 3 and Elex 1 and 2, that would have been huge disasters if done by any other company.
Yet, those titles all sold 0.5M+ units each, which was enough to keep a AA studio in the game and at least pay for the development costs.
The remake will also sell at least that much.
If you look at the remake as objectively as possible, you will find that the locomotion and combat are horrible and that the developers don't really get what made gothic good. Way too much handholding, too much modern game cancer, world not very convincing, female guards, pointless structures, none of the old issues and logic errors fixed, retarded use of torches.
But it looks really nice overall. Music is done by the old master. Old voice actors are in too. Huge nostalgia factor here, despite the remake being shit in terms of gameplay.
I give it another +500k for the fact that it's a visually appealing fantasy rpg, which aren't exactly as common as passable souls clones or shooters etc.
The original gothic was outstanding at the time of release in terms of visuals, setting / plot / dialogues / quests, world design, combat, character progression and exploration.
The sequel doesn't do any of these things better than the original, some things even worse.
So I guess around 1M sales in the first year and another 500k over the next 5 years at best.
Personally, I wouldn't buy it, because I am not retarded enough to waste my time on a remake of a game I already know that has either the same or worse gameplay than the original.
On the other hand, if you enjoy playing games and have nothing else to do in life, you don't exactly get a lot of fantasy rpgs each year, right?
