I played either one or both of them ages ago when they came out as cover games ("free" full games with computer magazines). I can't remember which one was it, but one had a really strange campaign, like you play as Humans and then suddenly you get to choose between the good and evil route, I don't get why you would suddenly start fighting for orcs and dark elves (maybe undead?) because someone died or something. Really weird.

While I see the point of other balance choices I feel it subtracted from the experience of WB3 and made it more counter play oriented.
When I finally got upkeep turned off and tried the campaign again I realized it was still unfinished and by that point my excitement had burned out a bit.
I still get in sometimes and play one of the old campaigns, it just feels less WB3 than 0.89

You should NOT be allowed to make alliances between good and evil factions. Good and evil can only ally with other good or evil respectively, and neutrals. If a neutral is allied with good, they cannot ally with evil until they break alliance with all goods.

Namely that the gameplay was slowed down to cater to a more turtle style of play. The speed of units seems like it was slowed across the board. Buildings have tons of HP and dedicated siege weaponry is now a must when attacking enemy bases.
There was some clear faction favoritism with the Orcs, dwarves, and dark dwarves. While other factions like the minotaurs got nerfed hard, and still other factions like the swarm seem like they got ignored. The creators spent lots of time doing things with boat units but they end up being annoying and not relevant to most maps. The user interface and descriptions are bogged down with way too much information.
Certain spells spheres also got favoritism treatment with chaos magic in particular stealing some of illusion magics best spells and illusion magic itself being reduced to a joke. Most spells cost way too many AP points with the last spells in many branches costing 8AP(the equivalent of 2 level ups).
Units getting their own abilities that cost crystal was OK but then the crystal costs are all over the place with some abilities being expensive and worthless and some begging the question of why they didn't stay as unit traits. Mana abilities for units and buildings take forever to regen now that mana regen upgrades have been removed.
But still I have been playing it quite a bit because to it's credit it does add a lot of content and features. Like the ability to rename your retinue units by clicking their name, that was kinda cool. New voices for units, new units and spells.
Not a fan of the new unit limit system. They messed around with the whole food thing and now they've basically given up on it and uncapped the unit limit to be based entirely on keep level. They need to go back to the original system where each building ups the limit.

Mercenaries. Holy shit. What were they thinking. Mercenaries cost little but come in such huge numbers that some of the factions that can hire mercs early from their buildings are very OP. One of the dwarf factions can hire mercs at keep level either 1 or 2 and then they can just spam waves of cheap mercenaries. Some of which include a storm dragon or very high level magic missile units that can steamroll opponents.
Neutral mercenary buildings (taverns) have a collective pool of mercs to hire so if the opponent beats you to the tavern they can hire all the mercs and you have to wait until they get more so you can't even hire your own to match the ones your opponent hired. So most maps with taverns become a race to see who can rush to the tavern first to hire mercs.

I opened the campaign file with the XCR editor, and copied the line "<Condition type="victory" id="global_episode" action="assign" value="2"/>" from ACT_KalpSeers to ACT_ExploreSundIsle. The files are pretty self-explanatory, so you can make edits like that easily. For example, you can also unlock a shop in Yrm that is normally inaccessible - probably a bug.

My only gripe now is that the swarm and the fey definitely need some work with how the tweaks to the economy system affected them. They are too slow to get going and their frail units are priced too high compared to their stats. Even compared to the base game it seems like the cost of sylphs and spriggans is higher and their stats just don't reflect their cost.
Surprised the protectors mod isn't more popular since it's free and a better version of the vanilla game.

I can see what the mod maker was trying to do but there is a lot of hidden information that isnt documented anywhere in the files. Like cover bonuses, unit type effectiveness, unlisted spell effects, etc. But once you get an intuitive understanding of the mechanics it's actually quite fun. But yeah the downside is that there is a lot of new stuff to figure out and learn and some of the reworks do beg the question of why were they even reworked. Like untying the unit cap from number of structures and lumping it into keep level. Or making towers count towards the unit cap but while controversial that probably was necessary to address tower spamming. I still think that towers should only cost 1 unit cap instead of 2 though. 2 seemed excessive.
Also putting ships in was kind of a questionable use of time and resources when they can only be used on supported maps and don't so much for the overall strategic aspect of the game other than be super annoying when the ai spams boats to flood any available water tiles with them.

But once you get the hang of the most recent protectors mod version it's actually really good. Much more stable and refined compared to previous versions. Having your units auto-cast spells by toggling with the middle mouse button. Map customization and expanded settings. Three different campaigns. It's great. I play it almost every other day when I get home from work.
Despite any complaints I made in previous posts in the thread it really is a great mod.

Lots of bugs were fixed. Some hero portraits have been reworked. The main menu has been remade to be less clunky and more intuitive. The armor system is now what it was like in wbc2 and that's a very welcome change. New build menu makes it much quicker to place buildings. Items, skills, and the stat system have been reworked for the better. You can port heroes over to the new version and respec their stats.
Overall this version is a big step forward and everything feels much more polished and sleek.

Only odd thing I've noticed so far is how ranged damage is calculated on heros when the weapon uses dual damage. Bows that are piercing/fire will I think display the fire damage as the main damage "type" if that makes sense. So it shows a very low value because the fire damage component in the combination is lower than the pericing damage. But this might also be a mistake on my part. Going to do a few more tests to find out.
Also it's neat that the stat affects for heroes have been changed so that now they affect other things. So now dexterity directly affects ranged weapon effectiveness instead of strength.
WBC2 Extreme difficulty CAN SUCK MY FUCKING DICK. Fucking retarded unbalanced bullshit. I fucking hate these shitty gimmick maps. Ragnar mountains is the fucking WORST map in this game right next to barad dunmyr and solhaven. These are barely playable by some factions on normal or hard difficulty. Step number one when playing as high-elves on extreme difficulty is to conquer the Dark Dwarves because they don't suck dick. They killed my max level dryad too.
The only balance change I don't understand is why all the skills that gave higher unit levels were nerfed so much. All of the skills like memories, golem master, taming, mage king, etc.
Was that really an issue? Now you need like 5 skill points just to raise units level by one for the specific units, and 10-12 points for the skill that affects more generalized units like with taming and memories.
Are heroes being balanced around the ultra high level heroes that people get from cheating or something?

I've gotta say, making a merchant warlord (in TPC) and use the massive discounts and extra resources to get a leg up and create deathballs of units assigned to my lord as bodyguards and getting the HUGE bonuses from the tactician talent, morale and hero charisma to steamroll every hero and group of units that dares to face me directly. That makes me smile.
It gave me a fighting chance in a 1vs 3 scenario with extra enemy reinforcement in a swarm tunnel network like it was spaceship troopers.
And I fumbled the start by going in with the Daros barbarians at max level 1 so I only had dogs. I didn't win it was too much of a slog so I retreated with dignity by resigning... but I could have!
not having everything die in 1-2 seconds really makes the mod more playable
What's a good low effort race? Tried Knight but their non-cav units are just worthless, so I always have to wait for a cav army.

The damage and armor system getting reworked was good but the removal of the counter system (swordsmen, spearmen, calvalry, ranged working like rock paper scissors) was bad because I was just getting used to it and now ranged units are back to being stronger than they should be. Some generals got way over buffed like plagelords being on par with a minotaur king. Plauge lords in general getting both acid damage and new ghoulification effect that turns your units whenever they die while infected and not just when their resistance drops to zero is really strong.
Which reminds me of another gripe which is that for many of the new afflictions like frostbite, crippled, bleeding, acid, etc neither cure nor dispel works on them and with paralyze and frostburn in particular the effects last way too long.
The theivery skill got broken in the latest version because they tried to work it so that it really did steal resources from whoever you hit instead of just giving you resources. Although it is currently non-functional I can only imagine how overpowered this is going to be when it works properly.
Towers can now fit larger units which is good. However ranged units garrisoning them now does nothing to add to range or damage which is bad. And the new upgrades that give towers dual damage types is very overpowered for the ones that get any type of slashing damage because it does carry thorough and can hit multiple units. It would honestly be better if they had left this alone because now there is no reason to garrison ranged units besides healing since they don't buff the tower like melee units do.
Also if you ever get a chance use the Diraque Empire factions racial power once you've built embassies near a few mines because it easily makes your units have an attack speed of 0.4 attacks per second which is the minimum.

Also when they removed the weapon restrictions from all the classes that was good but now there is some kind of weird damage and chance to hit glitches going on. I tried using a bow with a thief and his shots either wouldn't do damage or if they did hit only give an affliction like poison but no damage if the arrows were poison type.
Anyway I really hope the team can settle down and stop making so many sweeping changes every single version. They have basically reinvented the entire games meta like 5 different times now.

thanks I didn't realize. I saw something wonky with the towers a few times but I didn't realize that is what was happening. Good to know that archers in towers aren't useless. And that does make some sense from a design perspective because increasing tower range did prevent artillery from hard countering towers.

It is absolutely wild how fast it makes your units. I've found that the best way to deal with an empire AI using this faction is to constantly attack their embassies and mines before they can build up enough culture to fire it off. Once you hit the late game a well timed invasion with this power can be a death sentence.

Wew lads. Now that was a game and a half. Me vs 3 duke AI on a random map that ended up being an archipelago. Got curb stomped 10 minutes in by a fuck huge wave of imps and random units. Curious I entered spectate mode and scoped out the direction it came from. A dwarven base where the enemy hero was casting circle of power then summoning huge blobs of imps. Figured it must either be a warlock or a demonologist. Reloaded from a save at the beginning of the match wanting to get to the bottom of what happened and check the enemy heroes stats. Tried to rush the dwarves base, got curbstomped again and reloaded. This time I figured the best course of action would be to dig in. Start spamming towers on the west flank where the attacks are coming from. Summon 2 ballista and put use their special ability to anchor them and get better range and damage. Start surviving the first waves. Easten flank gets attacked by small high elf attack group and lose a tower and structure on that side. Switch unit production to firebats, Kobold snipers, and hellbores (playing as Dark orcs of Toragnar). Constant back and forth between waves of dwarves and demons from green team plus the occasional raid from blue team high elves. Can barely explore the map or do anything. Just bide time while building up an artillery blob. Slowly upgrading and switch from firebats to wyverns. Then start mixing in orcs and ogres to deal with ground forces. One of the good things about the orcs is that with the scrapyard you get a bounty for killing enemy units and with 3 scrapyards you have basically infinite resources if you keep killing. Purple team gets killed off by Green team and they claim their resources. After a long crawl towards Green finally weaken them enough that their mines can be destroyed. Their hero gets killed attacking Blue which puts an end to their demon waves. Finally end up killing green team then finish off blue with maxed out army, dragons, and titan.

The AI had dumped most of its stat points in Strength. Then maxed our both summoning and Chaos Magic. Which explained the demons and random units mixed in with them since they must have been using transform on some of them to get better ones. I also forgot to mention that Green started near a mage tower that they captured so as a result all of their spells were getting cast +5 levels higher. The rest of their skill points were all dumped in constitution for more HP and Regeneration for faster hitpoint regain. Their overall health regen rate was something like 0.452 HP per second so when garrisoned it was half that which was how they were able to cast so much. I'm guessing that at the start of the game they burned through all their health potions to cast more then got killed later on in the game because they had none and wandered away from the safety of their base. Also for context Warlocks cast spells using HP instead of Mana for anyone whose not familiar with the game.
But yeah that was a hell of a match up.

It does sound like it addresses my main complaint with the regular protectors mod which is that it changed a lot of things that didn't need to be changed.
Once I play it I'll give you a better assessment of it.

It's good aspects are that it rolls back a lot of unpopular changes that the protectors mod made. For example the way mines work. It redoes a lot of unit upgrades and makes them more powerful. Crystal costs have been removed from spell casting and units now cost varied resources again instead of just gold. A lot of upgrades are cheaper compared to the regular game or The protectors. The AI art is OK but the hero portraits style does not match the style of the base game which causes a clash. It seems like the camera is zoomed too close, not sure if this is a resolution problem or something but its far too close to get a big enough picture of the surroundings.
Other good things. Lots of new units, hero skills/classes. Most races have been re-balanced in a good way. Skill points required for unlocking spells have been reduced down to sane levels. Spell unlocks in the collectors up until the latest patch were costly.
Things that are questionable. Most races have had their sub-factions reduced down to 2. With the exception of Demons who have three. I can see what the author was going for trying to consolidate sub factions that were similar and making the base faction feel more fun by keeping the fun stuff from some factions. But in a way it kind of goes too far and it would have been better to keep more of them and make them feel similarly unique from each other if nothing else than for the sake of flavor and variety.
I kind of like that classes are restricted because it allows for greater focus on how the class and the race interact but with the reduced variety and limited selection some of the classes now feel kind of similar. Assassin and Rouge both took the thief skill and have the bounty skill. The titular assassin skill has now been nerfed to require level 40 to unlock it.

To the credit of the latest of the latest version of the protectors where they used AI art to alter hero portraits and add more it works because they had it pixelated and in the same general style of the main game. But even still there are a few instances where the AI made mistakes with the anatomy.
Also for the love of God if anyone regularly talks with the collectors mod creators on discord or something can you tell them to tone down the factions that have mercenaries especially the dwarf faction Holy City of Duernoth who gets their Merc building at keep level one. It is almost impossible without a high level hero to fight off wave after wave of high level mercenaries every 2 minutes that the AI is buying for next to nothing.
The ability to hire mercs either needs a longer cool down, higher cost, or needs to be moved to a higher keep level. Preferably all three. And other factions with mercs have a similar issue with this because of how Overpowered some of the merc bands are. Sorry for the rant but you can try this for yourself and see how frustrating it is.

Anyway not to waste a post. Hopefully they either patch the latest version or come out with the next version soon because the thief skill being broken has affected the game immensely. Also for the rune spells sphere the summon petrifying guardian unit from the summon guardian spell doesn't work. The description for it says that it passively casts Awe on enemy units but it does nothing.
Also there seems to be some weird shit going on with missle units damaging enemy units. Either not hitting them at all or doing zero damage. Noticed it specifically when a ballista was shooting at a celestial hatchling. Might have something to do with new armor system and ignore armor effects.

Buildings and units in 2 just look better and far more faction-coherent than in 3. The plague faction are just lazily slapped together assets, they use zombies, and then there's a zombie but with a mace and shield. 3 feels like a fan mod compared to 2. Now on the downside however my game crashed during a small skirmish so that wasn't too great, but also not unexpected since it happens semi frequently even in the base game. The shop glitch is still there were if you sell something then close out of the shop then go back and try to sell something else you will only get one gold no matter what but, hey whatever, it sounds like they are aware of this and still trying to fix it.
Overall this is one of the better versions they have released since they finally focused on fixing problems instead of adding brand new systems or reinventing the wheel. This is honestly what updates should look like mostly bug fixes with a few new things added.
Also honorable mention for appearing to have fixed mercenary prices so that certain factions can't spam them. The merc cost seems to be more in line with the actual value of units.
Played a game as a dark elf thief vs ranger high elf and a minotaur hero whose class is didn't catch. No crashes this time, continuing to enjoy the thievery skill bug being fixed.
One thing I noticed about the new tower damage upgrades is that some of them do carry through damage. The high elves towers in particular were very deadly and forced me to attack them at the farthest range with catapults.
Another impression I get is how much better the A.I. is compared to the base game especially since enemy heroes are no longer completely retarded and running towards certain death.
Another helpful new feature is that the fallback attitude is now a secondary attribute to the main attitude of units. Meaning you can have a unit set to guard, or scout, or aggressive that also has a fallback to base at 75% hp modifier.
This opens up a lot of options for keeping more fragile and expensive units like mages and cavalry alive longer.

This most recent version of the mod is by far the most stable with the fewest bugs. It's a super fun mod and anyone curious should at least give it a try since it's free.
Sure the graphics might be a bit dated for a strategy game but if you enjoy rts you'll find it has a certain charm to it and the rpg elements offer better customization that anything else like it.
It's like the prefect hybrid between diablo2 and command and conquer.

How do I actually 'git gud' at Protecters?
I played both 2 and 3 before
2 was simple enough: undead, necromancer and just raise the skeletons and eventually rape things with liches and chaos knights/doom knights
3 I used mostly high elves since healing was fun and we never died
Protectors seems weird as fuck - it's like the campaigns want you to have a fucking full army at the start to stave off the first few attacks but at the same time have a full support hero to get your full economy going but also your economy is shit wit how bad mines are now
still annoyed how the fuck the resources are now split into specific uses. gold being the main thing for units is retarded as fuck

As for the economy. Yeah they autistically wanted to simplify it across races which kind of missed the point about resource scarcity and different races having different mine priorities. But the shorthand version is.
Gold = all purchases
Metal = upgrades and advanced units
Stone = buildings and sometimes upgrades
Crystal = unit spellcasting and sometimes upgrades
And each mine captured contributes slightly to overall gold income. Put miners in your metal mines first, then stone mines, then crystal then gold. Or gold first if you are going for early man spam.

Getting good comes down to managing unit production well and holding mines so you can build up your base and upgrades until you can doomstack the enemy.
Besides mines keep an eye out for temples and merc buildings if left im the enemies hands they can quickly screw you over.
Hmm what else. Enemy heroes are a high priority but because of how unit speed works they can be hard to catch and kill when they retreat. Try to break your units up into small groups using number key assignments. Select a group and ctrl + # to assign them to a group you can quickly select by pressing that same number key.
Once you have distinct groups learn to position them behind where the enemy hero might retreat so you can surround him and kill him when he's low on health.
Other helpful tips that you may or may not know.
With your hero selected press the r key to show your command radius (gold circle) and spell radius (blue circle)
In the mod general and advanced units are much stronger than basic units so give them build priority when able but be aware that they take more population cap than basic units.
Flying units have been massively needed so basic fliers are now only good for scouting and raiding undefended enemy mines. Some advanced flyers are okay for taking out archers but the real big guns are dragons which are now much more dangerous than they were in wbc3. Protectors dragons are more similar to wbc2 dragons in their strength. Once you get your eeries/nest to level 3 you should be making dragons ASAP.
Titans and level 5 upgrades and units should only be needed to finish off particularly well dug in enemies or campaign missions but otherwise you should be aiming to win by keep level 4 or 3 if you are rushing a lone enemy.
Worth noting that low tier units aren't as hopeless as they were in vanilla due to the combat rework. They can actually deal chip damage to stronger stuff.

But hordes of wasps against advanced flyers is a good example of cost effectiveness because of their assassination ability. Speaking of which attacking bases defended by towers now fully demands bringing siege weapons or for the sides that lack them their equivalent unit which is strong vs. buildings like the Triceratops for the Ssrathi for example.
Which reminds me all towers now have a build option that lets you upgrade them to have a dual damage type which makes them much more effective against a wider variety of units and buildings in general tend to be tougher than in vanilla. Thankfully towers cost 2 population cap so the AI can't spam them like they could in vanilla without undermining how much of their own army they can field at a given time.

Sometimes though the enemy will bring out a mage unit with AOE spells that can wipe those blobs out so a few high tier units would still be necessary.

Wood elves' tree guys have an ability that lets them put roots and gain a throwing rock attack with 16 range and extra damage to buildings which is great, you can also use them defensibly though I don't think they have a big splash damage (if they have one at all).

I'm a dark elf fanboy and god damn did they get knocked down a peg. Assassination now gives a small fraction of gold back per kill (usually like 10 gold) while coincidentally the orcs with 3 salvage yards get something like 33 gold and metal on average for whatever then kill every time. Dark elves lost access to wisps too but this is supposedly offset by the tortured soul mechanic/upgrade that increases resource extraction for enemies killed. So meh kind of a bullshit lateral move. Since mana abilities are tied to crystal resource spell reliant races in general are nerfed so dark elf's, daemons, fey, and the undead aren't as strong. Coincidentally the orcs don't really have many mana abilities and most of their unit upgrades just straight up improve their units. For example the dark riders no longer do 3x damage to heroes but get an upgrade that temporarily for like 15 seconds gives them a damage bonus. Meanwhile Orc ogres get an upgrade that permanently makes them strong vs buildings. Kobold Snipers get an upgrade that changes their damage type to magic/piercing.

But as far as shit races go and despite my own bias towards dark elves. I'd say the worst race is by far The Swarm. The way they play now is very cumbersome with the ability to upgade the keep requiring garrisoning it with ants. And the various egg abilities requiring ants to collect corpses and deposit them at the queen building to get bonus unit production. But many of their units are priced way too high for how fragile they are. And the racial bonus they get from the sandstorm ability is more of a nuisance than a game changer.
But that aside I do have to give credit where credit is due. Many of the races have been improved and given extra flavor mechanics that make them fun, even the sub factions. I think the real issue is that in many ways they tried to make things equal for everyone but through the meta but in doing so they inadvertently made certain sides weaker via things like making unit costs more equal across races (something they've started to reverse in recent patches), making fliers weaker and all vulnerable to melee attackers, changing the economy and how unit population works (most units used to top out at 4, you had to build up your base and not just your keep to support more units), giving almost all sides access to siege weapons but at the same time nerfing the damage siege weapons do to regular units via splash damage, Then there was the brief period where they did the whole swordsmen vs spearmen vs cavalry vs archers rock,paper,scissors type hard counter system which has since been removed.
If I was to rank the various races overall for the protectors this is how I would do it.

I'd recommend the mod team raise the limit for activating the buffs to 50% and maybe give that subfaction back the flaming arrows upgrade because they kind of suck.
I don't know what it is about the balance decisions and their hatred of free resources either because most sides who got free resources got severely gimped in some way. Like wood elves magic wells no longer generate free gold. None of the elves get wisps and the badly needed crystal they generate. Barbarians don't get free stone from destroying buildings. Minotaurs don't get free metal for destroying buildings.
In the case of the wood elves they got economy upgrades at their mines and the tree status effect that makes them harder to convert back. The barbarians got the mill that workers could be sent to to increase output. And every faction got the trade upgrade which although helpful kind of degraded the race differences. The minotaurs have the new rage production mechanic which is a step in the right direction although minotaurs as a whole still move way too slow all around with speed levels almost equal to the dwarves.
It's also very curious that the Faction that never before got free resources before the mod (The Orcs) got the best free resource generator around the Salvage Pit which after you build 3 of them gives back something like 50% (might be less but its a lot regardless) of the resource worth of any unit they kill which is absolutely crazy. Compounded by the fact that most of their units are already low cost and low population limit they can basically steamroll every other faction just by fighting alone.

And on the plus side the mod makers are still actively working on it so it's nice to see that it's constantly getting polished and made better.
I'm just waiting for the day they revisit the changes they made to the fliers and hopefully change some of them back. Namely letting them attack ground units instead of restricting the tier one fliers to for the most part only being able to attack other fliers and buildings.
Like I don't get it. They added boats which are even more of a niche unit that is simultaneously overpowered but useless for engaging anything other than other boats. But they had an issue with fliers to the point they made them borderline irrelevant to combat other than rushing to level 3 eeries and spamming dragons before the opponent can.
Look I get it. The phoenixes being able to convert buildings was a bit much. I agree with removing that. It gave the elf A.I. way too much ability to enforce map control. But holy hell did they really need to take away their ability to attack ground units? They didn't take away the Imps ability to attack ground units. Anyway Download the mod and give it a try if you haven't already.
The current patch 92.c has a problem with the spellbound when you open it and scroll over spells it will crash to desktop. The discord has a download for a fixed exe for it. Might be worth downloading if you don't want to wait for the next patch version.

Gave the Demon basic unit (hell hound) fast attack speed??? For some fucking reason??? You can now steamroll an enemy with them 1 v 1 without even needing to tech up beyond keep lvl 1.
WTF were they thinking? Demons is on of the last factions that needs a buff

Once you get the trade upgrade with demons you can basically trade all your resources for crystal and summon your army over and over next to a portal and still use less resources than paying for them directly while benefiting from the summoning experience upgrades.

Warlords should've just stuck with the entirely custom experience of warlords 2, expanding more and more on individual elements and moving away from the autobattle system to create the ultimate generic TBS experience. They could've had their own niche in the market while keeping battlecry as their story spinoff series.

I'm just glad they stopped fucking with the meta as much as they were. Although I gotta say I actually miss the unit type advantage system. That actually had some good points to it. But more than that the complete removal of ALL unit type effectiveness traits on units was a misstep in my opinion. They seem stuck in this dilemma where they want to make everything "equal" but also unique which is a hard line to walk although they manage it by adding things like racial powers, subfactions, new mechanics, exclusive units and upgrades, etc.
But anyway I imagine they will eventually patch it back at some point. People are going to notice that hellhound spam can create rushes and if the balance team hates anything it's the ability to rush base destruction.

Browsing the discord for the protectors mod reminded me of how god awful "Ideas Guys" are. Right up there with the Timmy Power Gamer types complaining that the game balance doesn't suit their level 200 characters.

Maybe even add a separate editor for designing your own campaign maps in either a WBC2 or WBC3 style.

Making custom units for the mod would itself not be too hard except I learned recently when browsing their discord that they have purposefully made the mod difficult to change the units for anyone but the actual mod team. Which sucks but supposedly it's to prevent multiplayer issues.

Hellhounds, Wolves, wardogs. They all got the attack speed boost which is a bit odd. Because usually the fast attack speed trait is reserved for fey units which honestly do need it because they are so fragile and low damage that it's the only way to make them competitive with regular units. But the various dog units have fairly good HP so the attack speed boost pushes a lot of them beyond being comparable to other basic units.
