Are steam versions of xcom any good for modding?

reason i'm asking is there's a big sale on one of the game-selling sites, so just wondering if it may be worth getting.

i picked a random game from the series for the screenshot. the sale is a bundle of all the xcom games
so, the original set, and the second set of remakes, with garbage in between.
but not the first set of remakes, as that was done by a different company

Doesn't really matter for 1.
2 has workshop support, which can help a lot when it comes to adding lots of small mods for a custom experience, takes out a lot of the hassle. Counterpoint is that xcom2 modding primarily consists of smol mods.
As an example the most popular collection this week is a star wars collection consisting of 140 mods, installing those manually is a hassle.
Chimera has workshop support too but no clue about that game desu.

Now for larger modpack you'd still end up using nexus and co. though

Thanks.
So, would any of the mods work for old ones, or would those ones have to go through GOG versions?

>any of the mods work for old ones
I'm not really sure what you mean with that.
For XCOM Enemy Unknown the versions between GoG and Steam should be the same, there might be an issue with exe hacking if those differ.
As for XCOM 2 and Chimer Squad, smods.ru has most of the steam mods available for download, in case you they aren't on the nexus which is the case for many, it's just more of a hassle.

If with old ones you mean UFO Defense/Terror from the Deep it won't matter, partially because these days everyone only uses the as file repositories for OpenXcom/OXCE.

Just get XCOM 2, install these QoL mods

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2420662943

maybe some cosmetics:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2381535714

and play the game. Be sure to install AML since the standard mod launchers are shit. After you beat the game....when you beat the game eventually, look at installing some wild mod pack or up the difficulty.

>A spinoff so bad it killed the reboot series
The snake was the only redeemable aspect of that game.

Like after that game I doubt it will be possible to unfuck the story of the reboot anymore.

Unless we are going to be playing as deathsquads killing aliens after the integration failed. Vgh... Xcom Jin Roh. Now THAT would be a game worth playing.

Did you install LWOTC or something? A lot of the difficulty mods for this game are basically just knowledge checks.

They retconned basically everything that happened in XCOM 1 to make XCOM 2, so you're obsessed over the nothing if you really think they'd have any issue retconning a lame spinoff title to make XCOM 3.
What really killed nuXCOM was that shitty Marvel card game they did. Firaxis made the XCOM team work on that instead of XCOM 3, and after it was done half the team quit the company.

Firaxis Xcom 2 has a pretty good mod scene, and classic X-Com UFO Defence has basically been remade in open source with OXCE which also has mods, usually of the total conversion variety like X-Files or X-Piratez
F.Xcom EU/EW doesn't have many mods but it does have Long War which is a mess that people made to add an "extra hard mode" and that should tell you all you need to know about it. Not that it's bad, but I found it needlessly masochistic.

Steam is fine? If you actually want to mod youll be using xcom2 (vanilla is crap but lwotc is great) the mod manager and nexus mods for the most part. You should consider keeping a backup tho bc niggers will take their shit down in a fit

Any way to mod the Android version of xcom2?, they got most of it right but the LoS activation indicator for when you have a reaper or concealed ranger.
