DO YOU HEAR THE VOICES TOO??? kind of underwhelming, the Unification mod already did almost everything the remaster claims to do. I guess we get an improved vanilla experience though
>>2045223 (OP)64 bit support will improve modding immensely and also unification is absolute dogshit, please kys.
BATTLE BROTHERS
SPESS MEHREENS
Unification like all the bloat mods is pure garbage and buggy to boot.
64 bit may actually give rise to actually decent mods.
the models look better but the effects look worse
>Unification shill
Really? I guess people still enjoy bloatware but at least we'll have better modding support going forward.
>>2045290As a borderline Amish Luddite when it comes to technology, how does a change to a 64 bit environment compared to a 32 bit environment benefit modding?
>>204532432 is like an old mule, 64 is like a draft horse
>>2045324The amount of ram a program can access.
32 bit programs couldn't even go into the double digits of GB's of ram. 4 GB was indeed kind of the hard limit.
By comparison, the sky is basically the limit when it comes to how much ram 64 bit can use. We're talking exabytes, which no consumer pc will ever reach that high in the foreseeable future.
>>2045341I wasn't asking for nonsensical comparisons.
>>2045366Thank you.
>>2045223 (OP)i hope to God that you can play all the expansions separately in skirmish. i do not want to play soulstorm.

>>2045223 (OP)>kind of underwhelmingAgreed. Maybe I'm just a boomer, but the new models and textures looked only a bit better to be honest.
Fewer crashes and 64-bit executable sound cool, I guess. But I've got to say I'm not especially whelmed by the trailer.
>>2045378oh, there is that.
>>2045246This. 64 bit is the only thing they really needed to do and all anyone who is actually a fan of this wants. They could have left the graphics alone entirely and I would still pay full price for this.
>DoW DE
Fuck yes. I've waiting for this for 20 years.
>Unification
Fuck no. I like the mod for what it wants to do, but how it does it is atrocious. The OCs, cameos and historical inaccuracies are horrible.
>>2045419I guess they could have done something about the environment textures, they may yet, who knows. If they were showing release state, I doubt they would be putting it on hold at all for release. Going by the updated intro video, they're 100% using AI assistance and there's still only so much that can do.
Was hoping they'd bring the SS campaign up to par, but oh well.
>>2045510>historical inaccuraciesThe what?
>>2045521It seems to just be a simple remaster, not a deeper remake of the game. The recommended specs are still packing dx9 for example.
>>2045521>>2045523Hopefully this release gets some new blood in to mod out all the dogshit additions of Soulstorm and replace them with actual fun gameplay
>>2045535Oh god, skirmish might have rolled in the fucking air units of soulstorm too, fuck.

>>2045521>The what? The whole Tekarn subfaction of Renegade Guard, Vraks being a communist revolution instead of a holy war, Farsight using Gue'vesa, Emperor's Children having Primaris, etc.
This is Unification, not vanilla.
>>2045623>Space Marine 2 level of unit detailYou don't do that for RTS if you want to render a lot of units on screen, just because the camera is further away doesn't mean your computer skips on rendering.
>>2045246>>2045290>>2045309>more factions and units, HD models bad because... it just is, okay???>>2045623>being this autistic about 40k lorethe mod is fine
>>2045223 (OP)Unless they've improved the pathfinding, I'm not sure I can go back to it. Tried to replay the main campaign a month or 2 ago, and it's so rough. I forgot how badly units get caught on each other and terrain. Not really an issue if you play MP though, because you're usually engaging with smaller squads constantly rather than the big gathered armies in the campaign.
>>2045733>le bloat is..LE GOOD
There is an atom of hope that lelic will do something about DoW3 if this sells well.
>>2045776Pretending DoW3 didn't happen will only cause the same mistake. Just call it DoW4. Although I don't think Relic is in a position to do DoW4 any more. I don't think they ever will be.
>>2045786I think DoW3 is fine mechanically, just having 3 races is fucking piss. It's a better RTS than the moba-tier DoW2 that doesn't let you have more than like 8 units.
>>2045792I want to argue with you, but I never bothered trying DoW3. It looked much more MOBA-inspired than 2 with its ridiculous hero characters, lanes, ancient and colour palette. I think the main thing that bothered me was the cover system though. I hated the magic shield thing when the first and 2nd had craters and walls and boxes and actual reasonable cover choices on a battlefield. The magic shields just felt lazy and kind of poisoned my whole image of the game.
>>2045776why would they double dip on a financial catastrophe and remaster a game everyone hated?
>like sob and de
>hate air units
suffering.
>>2045811would be based if they gave the option to disable air units in the DE
dunno how much it would impact balance, probably not at all since only IG's bombers are even remotely useful, and only barely and situationally
>>2045792>I think DoW3 is fine mechanicallywith that damage system?
a bunch of dow1 modders were lightyears ahead almost twenty years ago
>>2045870What's wrong with the damage system?

>>2045874it's blizzard tier trash, together with animations and every other mechanic

always fun to watch these two get at each other throats
>>2045919I disagree. I don't recall any problems with the damage system, if anything the low TTK is very good, I hate CoH-style piss fights where squads exchange fire for 3 hours before just going back to reinforce. It actually punishes you for being shit.
>>2045921They're barely doing anything, what are you talking about?
>>2045921>low TTK>dow3come on
>>2045921real patricians play pok anyway
>>2045733You call that "HD models"?
>>2045976Compared to what they were before? Yeah.
>>2045223 (OP)>>2045419Given the scale size of the models and the camera distance you cannot really do much with higher res textures. Only with the camera giving you those neat battlefield shots as you coom in and move the camera around would drastically improve as the textures remain crisp instead of looking like bad oily paint.
Furthermore, whoever did this remaster decided to make everything brown.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFFinkjq4dY
>>2046023>decided to make everything brown. It's accurate to the era that Dawn of War was made in
>>2045223 (OP)Does this fix the constant desyncs that game with the shift to Steam?
>>2046052It was also made fun of all the time because everything looked like literal shit and was one of the bigger reasons for the demand to have more colorful and stylized graphics.
>>2046023The palette was always majority brown, the non-brown in the textures have just been desaturated.
>>2046072We can only hope. I'd be down for some multiplayer with people other than my few autistic retard friends
>>2045979But compared to how they could (or, indeed, should; it's 2025) be? No.
I'm not saying Space Marine 2 detail like an anon above suggested, but at the very least better than DoW2
>>2046523Bad idea. The more detailed the models get, the less readable units are at a glance, high fidelity is bad for RTS, so while they could give the units higher detail and still maintain performance, doing so fucks the game visually and you don't get anything out of the HD models because you're always looking at them from a distance that makes detail meaningless. It works for other genres, but not RTS, as for how these look, they don't look much different to DoW2's units anyway, and going into DoW3 levels of fidelity starts running into the effect I've just described.
It is essentially the camouflage effect at play, where lots of detail breaks up the profile of the overall object and makes it harder to identify.
>>2046523>But compared to how they could (or, indeed, should; it's 2025) be?Grass is always greener and you'll always move the goalpost somewhere instead of being satisfied with what you got. For free.
>>2046527>The more detailed the models get, the less readable units are at a glanceThat's why I mod all my games to use NATO counters only.
Maximum. Readability.
>>2046923>NATO counters only. This is how I play Hearts of Iron.
>>2045223 (OP)So this is going to be free for those who already own the OG, right?
>>2047171They said it would have "competitive" pricing, whatever that means. My guess is that it will still cost money, but will probably be cheaper than old versions. If that's the case, since the anniversary edition is $50, it'll probably be $10-15 cheaper than that.
64bit is the most important part, so many things that make the game unstable will just disappear with this.
Don't forget to wishlist it
i mean its cool that they didnt try to resell it as a remastered version
>One of the challenges with the โclassic editionโ is there are four possible multiplayer pools, so thatโs complicated. Weโre going to have one multiplayer pool, which will effectively be the Soulstorm multiplayer.
it's so fucking over
>>2049665Isn't the only problem with Soulstorm skirmish mode the flyers? Surely they're aware of how much people complain about them and so they'll either fix them or give an option to disable them.
>>2049962They said they weren't doing any balance changes for release
>>2046023>whoever did this remaster decided to make everything brownAll games are brown now, did you see what they did to the Oblivion remaster?
>>2051337Oblivion suffers from Bethesda's favorite single color filter, looking at the trailers for DoW they deliberately went out of their way to desaturate the colors instead.
>>2045223 (OP)Too bad unification mod is shit and adds too much shit that's not even close to lore and you have no options to disable waifus and other shit.
>>2045811Why do you idiots hate air units so much in a game where most units have guns and all factions have air units themselves?
>>2053695luckily there are other, far better mods than trannyfication
>>2053721because most people don't have the brain capacity to realize that using them is completely optional
Well even if this new remaster becomes some blessing to the big name mods like UA, that's still going to take at least a few months for modders to adapt so players really have nothing to lose provided they sit back and let things play out.
Let her release and grab when you feel comfortable.
>>2053721because they're expensive and incredibly shit and worthless
>>2053729UA isn't bad innit?

UA and Unification are both dogshit bloat mods
>>2053807I know what I said
>>2053817And now with 64 bit we can bloat harder than we've ever bloated before!
>>2045223 (OP)This shit is doa, the dev admitted they are too stupid to fix pathing so all they are doing is making the exe x64.
yep, i indoctrinated a new friend via Into the Breach (all random, fuck tau)
>>2055579Christ I hope we get new maps, this shit's embarrassingly small.
>>2056044Mods.....have more and bigger maps....
>>2045223 (OP)Unification could have been something great, but the devs insistence on inserting their own OC's and factions into the mod kinda fucking ruined it. Pic related isn't even an easter egg, it's just a part of the Chaos Marine lineup for some reason, if the AI is Chaos they WILL make this unit.
>>2045626isnt that what they do for total war though?
they probably wont fix camera
objectively dow2>dow1
>>2062296I got DoW2 for free when I bought CoH2 like 12 years ago but I still have never tried it. What does it do better than the first game?

>>2062190Fucking kek it's the waifu lady from spy family.
Why are modders like this?
>>2062295Pretty sure Total War squeezes level of detail like crazy.
>>2062391The squad tactics are cute. Lots and lots of idle chatter. Problem is the maps kind of suck. Wargear options are fairly limited since every character has basically one role and it doesn't make any sense to mix things up. You'll always have a missile launcher and a heavy bolter for your Devastator; you just swap them out in between missions based on if the intel says you will fight vehicles or not. No purpose giving a heavy bolter to your Tactical squad, though I guess the Chaos Rising expac supposedly makes a heavy bolter Force Commander at least somewhat viable.
>>2062190Yeah I looked into it recently and there was this weird Japan inspired faction I've never heard of and it left me confused.
>>2064144Just wait until you see Twilight Sparkle in the Imperial Guard
>>2065599>weird Japan inspired factionYou're talking about the "Tekarn Shogunate" and it's a travesty. The really annoying part is that it isn't actually a unique faction, but rather a separate path that Traitor Guard chooses at game start, so if you're playing against the AI it's a 50-50 chance that you get to fight Vraks (a pretty okay faction), or the weeaboo fanfiction with EXTREMELY busted commanders (from Genshin and Star Wars of all things).
Icing on the cake is that Tekarn is actually a loyalist regiment (though one with next to no lore)
I am again reminded how disappointed I was in Soulstorm's "aviation" having played Empire Earth before.
>>2045223 (OP)Does Sega changing the exe to x64 make any meaningful changes compared to the old 4GB patch?
>>2067109I unironically think the Tekarn Shogunate looks colol its just they should have been 100 percent loyalists instead of the weird chaos thing they have. (also they need to be balanced)
>>2046072If they don't fix that and also don't add the extra zoom camera mod by default then there's no reason to buy this
>>2070085Also they need to add a campaign difficulty where both sides have 100% HPs

>3. ork voicelines changed to be grimdark and scary, space marine voicelines - less over the top

>>2071632Have to pick the first one, the other options do far more damage
>>2071632Pretty much the first. Even though I liked Space Marine showing off the Grimdark side of Orks since it should come up once in a while.
>>2071632I'd pick #2. #1 and #3 are dealbreakers. My 40k knowledge is like 20 years out of date, I just picked up Battlesector and really enjoyed it but once I realized it was all primaris shit and there were no tactical marines etc it kinda killed the game for me.
>>2071632I pick >4
>4. Eldar get a Striking Scorpion unit and they have voices closer to the cool elves of 2 instead of the mysterious fruits of 1, thus terribly clashing with the rest of the faction, also chainswords and pistols kind of sound like Banshee power swords and pistols, oh the horror
since it's now in 64-bit they should remove the 20/20 unit caps
they should also add expansions for tyranids, leagues of votann, chaos daemons + specific factions, inquisition, adeptus mechanicus, adeptus custodes and update the eldar + dark eldar
leave primarislop for dawn of war 4
I wonder how the "four games in one" will work, like can you pick which expansion set's rules you're playing with? I liked vanilla and WA, but didn't like what Dark Crusade did to everything (both the balance changes to existing armies, and the cheesy-ass Tau and Necrons). Never played Soulstorm.
>>2064069That's not how you spell "Purgation of Kaurava"
>>2073941Remaster, not remake. Graphic and performance updates, but this this is still just 40k 4th edition rules. So no major updates like factions and rules from the current edition.
