DO YOU HEAR THE VOICES TOO??? kind of underwhelming, the Unification mod already did almost everything the remaster claims to do. I guess we get an improved vanilla experience though

The amount of ram a program can access.
32 bit programs couldn't even go into the double digits of GB's of ram. 4 GB was indeed kind of the hard limit.

By comparison, the sky is basically the limit when it comes to how much ram 64 bit can use. We're talking exabytes, which no consumer pc will ever reach that high in the foreseeable future.

I guess they could have done something about the environment textures, they may yet, who knows. If they were showing release state, I doubt they would be putting it on hold at all for release. Going by the updated intro video, they're 100% using AI assistance and there's still only so much that can do.

Unless they've improved the pathfinding, I'm not sure I can go back to it. Tried to replay the main campaign a month or 2 ago, and it's so rough. I forgot how badly units get caught on each other and terrain. Not really an issue if you play MP though, because you're usually engaging with smaller squads constantly rather than the big gathered armies in the campaign.

I want to argue with you, but I never bothered trying DoW3. It looked much more MOBA-inspired than 2 with its ridiculous hero characters, lanes, ancient and colour palette. I think the main thing that bothered me was the cover system though. I hated the magic shield thing when the first and 2nd had craters and walls and boxes and actual reasonable cover choices on a battlefield. The magic shields just felt lazy and kind of poisoned my whole image of the game.

Given the scale size of the models and the camera distance you cannot really do much with higher res textures. Only with the camera giving you those neat battlefield shots as you coom in and move the camera around would drastically improve as the textures remain crisp instead of looking like bad oily paint.

Furthermore, whoever did this remaster decided to make everything brown.

Bad idea. The more detailed the models get, the less readable units are at a glance, high fidelity is bad for RTS, so while they could give the units higher detail and still maintain performance, doing so fucks the game visually and you don't get anything out of the HD models because you're always looking at them from a distance that makes detail meaningless. It works for other genres, but not RTS, as for how these look, they don't look much different to DoW2's units anyway, and going into DoW3 levels of fidelity starts running into the effect I've just described.

It is essentially the camouflage effect at play, where lots of detail breaks up the profile of the overall object and makes it harder to identify.

They said it would have "competitive" pricing, whatever that means. My guess is that it will still cost money, but will probably be cheaper than old versions. If that's the case, since the anniversary edition is $50, it'll probably be $10-15 cheaper than that.

The squad tactics are cute. Lots and lots of idle chatter. Problem is the maps kind of suck. Wargear options are fairly limited since every character has basically one role and it doesn't make any sense to mix things up. You'll always have a missile launcher and a heavy bolter for your Devastator; you just swap them out in between missions based on if the intel says you will fight vehicles or not. No purpose giving a heavy bolter to your Tactical squad, though I guess the Chaos Rising expac supposedly makes a heavy bolter Force Commander at least somewhat viable.

>weird Japan inspired faction
You're talking about the "Tekarn Shogunate" and it's a travesty. The really annoying part is that it isn't actually a unique faction, but rather a separate path that Traitor Guard chooses at game start, so if you're playing against the AI it's a 50-50 chance that you get to fight Vraks (a pretty okay faction), or the weeaboo fanfiction with EXTREMELY busted commanders (from Genshin and Star Wars of all things).
Icing on the cake is that Tekarn is actually a loyalist regiment (though one with next to no lore)

since it's now in 64-bit they should remove the 20/20 unit caps
they should also add expansions for tyranids, leagues of votann, chaos daemons + specific factions, inquisition, adeptus mechanicus, adeptus custodes and update the eldar + dark eldar
leave primarislop for dawn of war 4

I wonder how the "four games in one" will work, like can you pick which expansion set's rules you're playing with? I liked vanilla and WA, but didn't like what Dark Crusade did to everything (both the balance changes to existing armies, and the cheesy-ass Tau and Necrons). Never played Soulstorm.
