So why is there no buzz around this game?
TF2 had a solid base, but the devs fumbled the details and intricacies. I am positive the game can finally dethrone 30yo TTD as the best economic sim, if the devs learn from their mistakes with TF2.
What do you think about this annoncement and what do you think TF3 must be doing better to be the best game in the genre?

Is the economic sim actually good? I thought it was as simple as running lines as long as possible

Start copying more from rail road tycoon. I want actual maintenance and fuel for trains, customization like adding dining cars for passengers to increase income, and being able to build and own industry and other buildings to influence income or towns. I think even having things like town industry preferences that voxel tycoon does would be neat as well.

anyone notice how they never actually topped TTD music?

I just hope it's not TF2 with better graphics. I would like a game where you actually have a real-sized city and where you have to build train lines between cities that are hundreds of miles away.

>TTD as the best economic sim
Surely, you jest. TTD is a good model railroad sim but there's nothing difficult let alone accurate about the economic aspect of the game.

I want TF3 to be deeper in the simulation part and more engaging in the building part (or include that at all), like >>2045437 said.
There is enough history in the genre to get inspiration from and TF2 had good enough legs to be built upon.
The game desperately needs a better UX and UI, competitive and cooperative MP, better pacing through the ages, the early game was painfully slow, better and more data/statistics, a good campaign, and some (optional) QOL shit. I have high hopes for once.

More economic depth would be perfect, and thus increasing the difficulty of the game would be too. TF2 stopped being a game after you played a save for 2-3 hours and became a great model-railway sim.

Because they showed a CGI trailer with not even a single in-engine sequence.

It was an announcement. I, for one, haven't heard anything about a new installment, prior to the trailer.
Just use the thread as an excuse to talk about TF and consorts

Fair enough. I do like TF, i'm not here to rag on the series. But TF3's announcement trailer was frankly a big nothingburger and i feel like a blog post would've been more appropriate.

Openttdcoop approached factorio levels of autism. But yeah, the challenge on the jgr servers on the ttd discord is mostly aesthetic.

Last time I played TF2 was like 2 years ago but wasn't it lacking a lot of content? Shouldn't they focus on that rather than releasing TF N+1?

fuck no. No one should go the PDX route by releasing DLC after DLC for years on end to "fix" the game. TF2 had a good run, but it is clearly the better choice to start anew, building upon the things that went well with TF2 and avoiding its shortcomings, while adding meaningful mechanics.
Plus, adding things via DLC always feels tacked on, somewhat disruptive for the flow of the game.

Transport Fever 2 was surprisingly mediocre at the only thing it tried to do
seriously I couldn't put down rails how I wanted because it would always do a stupid giant curve by default and there's no planning mode to drag/adjust shit before building it
so I had to manually place down small pieces of tracks for anything

never heard of the game.
got #2 on sale and the game's straight up broken with cargo not loading to trains despite the station being absolutely full. not a good show.

haven't played in a while but IIRC, this game "saves" cargo for certain trains, like for that silver factory since you have multiple trains demanding silver, whatever silver is reserved for the other trains can't be taken by the one that just left the factory. It isnt on a first come first serve basis like in Factorio or W&R, every cargo in this game has a destination, so unless the demand for the silver on that train is higher it will only take up to whatever amount of silver the cog factory is demanding.

I think it's the main flaw of the game, because the same system is used for passengers. Sometimes you'll have bottlenecks and overcrowded stations because commuters never ride your metros if their stop isnt the next even if the line goes to where they want eventually, they will always opt for the connect point A to point B option even if it's just marginally faster and will make them wait in the station longer. I think they only take fastest route time into account, excludes cost or total time when you account for the waiting in station which I think is a bad system.

>umm yeah stop using trains for a month please
why is the campaign like this?
is it trying to be a tutorial mode or a challenge mode? it can't be both.
