Seems like there's a bug where getting the mastery upgrade with the tier 1 guild merchant that turns him into the guild master doesn't give you a set of tier 2 rituals. Unless there's some other way you're supposed to get tier 2 rituals on your tier 1 guys that works different from every other class

It works for me. Did the tier 1 guy start with only Purge Guild and Establish Market Village or something? You get all your rituals from the lesser ritual and they get the level 2 and 3 variants at the same time, so it is a little bit different.

Purge guild is a default ability and market village along with it are the only skills that don't have multiple levels, so you'd presumably not see anything if you ranked them up.

Are they actually working on it? The only thing I found was some comment from 2013

The Merchant Prince actually gets pretty powerful if allowed to grow.
Free balistas at mason guilds. Ballista enchantment and town portals from mage engineers (tier 3 random recruit), who are actually pretty fine mages themselves.
Recruitable assassins and better assassins (shadow stalkers) and assassin contracts that makes all of your assassin/ss guilds send a guy after one player's commanders (human mage guys are fucked).
Adventurer parties are more about fun than being busted but those can get reasonably strong for small parties. Too bad they are more mindful of danger while the bandits just rush the closest thing of interest even if they are like 4 against 30.
Tons of pretty good random recruit offers, including mages of various powerlevels.
Ships actually seem useful now. At 3rd tier you can make void ones to sail straight into the void if that's your thing.

Meanwhile Dryad Queen probably still has a Harpy Queen (pretty strong air caster in the roster consisting of only nature mages beside her) locked behind a costly ritual that can give you like 20+ combinations of stuff that is not a Harpy Queen.

The best/worst my did was attack a town with 20+ soldiers and bring the numbers down to single digits. The cleric was really on the roll with his heals there.

Watching a hero group assault a magic library, die, and give the mages more magic items is pretty funny. There's a king's castle in my game with an arch bishop that keeps converting heroes to his side. I have to try this as a charming/enslaving class and see if they stay stupid.

Man I just had a massive meatgrinder game against a High Priestess as Burgmeister. There was a cluster of cites that ended up being the site of dozens and dozens of battles with her, I can't even imagine how many undead a necro could have raised from that shit lol. I need to play High Priestess at some point because I have no idea how that class works which wasn't doing me any favors, but holy shit the battles we had between ents and rephaim giants or whatever those fucking things are called was nuts. The game was giving me ZERO new horticulturalists and horologists passed a certain point for some reason too so that was a massive bottleneck for my clockworks and treebois. Felt really satisfying when that emerald dragon clockwork trampled her ass to death.

If I remember right all the giant summon rituals of high priestess require a settlement of suitable size and it gets downgraded. The lesser summons are just sacrifices needed. Summon Baal is a fuck you end summon where you get Baal and loads of void affiliation rephaim spawn around the world.
