Troubleshooter: Abandoned Children
Violent Red Panda Edition
How do you build Irene to better utilize the characteristics of Violent Red Panda?
Anonymous No.2055744 >>2055751 >>2055754 >>2055965
Shortly before the old thread fell off the catalog, anon posted pic related. Anon was focused on Alisa having swordsman rather than warrior as her base class, but I thought there was some other interesting bits here too. Maria made it far enough in to have data here. Ryung Lee was originally supposed to be in Steelhead? PC Skull? Maximillian has two entries ("Hundred" is how he's always referred to internally. I assume "Junk" is also him, despite specifying a different shape.

Maria has animations but no actual moveset. Eluote and level 50 are genuine.
Skull's model is a t-posed Albus, but he's got Leton's basic moveset and portrait so he was probably the character that eventually became him.

Yeah, there's no mastery info related to "Junk" but his model is Maximillion with a different idle pose (looks frightened like an NPC) and all his moves/items are the same.

Here's how to make a "Fuck You" Violent Red Panda memebuild that will literally kill anything
>Awaken
Necessary to VRP whenever you want to
>Can't Wait Anymore
Cast delay is a bitch, and Violent Red Panda can easily take you over 200AT if the enemy survives a lot of hits
>Fanatic Pyromaniac
Resets the cooldown on VRP as you crit
>Enormous Flame + Flame Bolt
This is the one build where it actually kicks ass. That's 400 flat damage per hit, for the 5 hits of Violent Red Panda
>Flames of Vengeance
Free action points for killing burning targets = happy chainkilling or retreating. Also makes Phoenix good.
For items it doesn't really matter how much damage or accuracy you have, because fixed damage + Million Years of Training + Explosive Red Panda Style means none of that matters. Just equip good defensive/speed items and whatever bangle or battle glove has a good unique effect.

He was raised as a child soldier, with the closest thing to a mother being one of the people who kidnapped and groomed him into a killer.
Also he has very little stability in his life, since the child soldier program keeps being shut down and then reopened, which is why he is stuck with Luna, who he knows he might have to kill at some point.
He is honestly pretty well adjusted all things considered.

I know nothing about you or your ability to learn and persist, but typically it goes
>base game is doable with any kind of jank (mid-high level violent cases will rape, though)
>White Lion / Black Witch requires some degree of build optimisation and usually hits casuals like a brick wall (but it's not actually that restrictive)
>Crimson Crow is hard, but with the exception of the final battle you can complete it with absolute shit-tier builds (and even the final battle has mega cheese strats)

Depends how good you are at making your own builds, and what difficulty you're playing on. You don't have to be min-maxed at all to complete the game, but if you're playing on a higher difficulty and you're bad at making builds you will probably struggle at certain points. It's not that your builds have to be amazing but you'll definitely want to look for synergy options and not just slap on random stuff.

It was on a larger post about why they weren't adding more functionality to the modding tool, the relevant bit was:

>We are still very vulnerable to the risk of closing the studio, and we need to focus all the development resources in one place to keep it a little further away.

So basically they are so strapped for cash they are rushing to get Banished Children into at least an EA state to create more funds before the studio runs out of money entirely and it's shut down, which is why they are not spending any more time on the mod tool for Abandoned Children.

It sounds somewhat less dire when you consider that was exactly the state they were in during Abandoned Children's development as well, though it is sad to hear that AC wasn't enough of a success to make them a bit more financially secure.

I'm not sure I'm far enough from the one I chose to kill for it to punish me. But honestly I didn't notice the ranger at all until it ate my Auto Dodging Response: It takes 7 consecutive responsive fires to kill a Damage Absorbing / Auto Dodging Response drone and I knew that both snipers together could only shoot me 6 times. The instant the Ranger also joined in I knew I was fucked.

I feel like the lack of marketing is the problem here. I learned of this game when some autist visited /vrpg/ and said it's decent. A few months later I remembered it and looked it up on steam to notice it's on a discount, so I bought it. The anon was right and I enjoyed the game a lot but I had to learn about it through words of mouth in a place that theoretically should facilitate the discussion about games like Troubleshooter.

The developer should pick a few youtube accounts that focus on autistic rpgs and xcom 2 players and pay them a few thousand bucks for a sponsored video. Tainted Grail came out recently and that was pretty much the only way it was marketed, and it did fairly well.

Started playing this game for the first time recently. I got to this mission and saw you could start it off by taunting the enemies, so I decided I had to beat it by soloing every enemy with Albus alone while keeping Anne and Luna alive. Had to redo his masteries to get the ones that give AT for blocking/dodging, then I was able to do it. I expected a different ending but it just cut to the normal one acting like Luna and Anne helped, kind of funny.

I looked up the specifics of how Sion's Hungry Wolf individual mastery works:
>For every turn that you're missing either health or vigor there's a stacking 10% chance that it activates, which doesn't necessarily guarantee he actually eats a snack, but it enables the next parts to happen.
>once that roll succeeds it checks whether he's missing HP, vigor or both to determine what to heal with his snack. If he's missing both there's a 50% chance of picking either HP or Vigor.
>finally there's another percentage roll, which is equal to the % of your missing HP or vigor. He eats the snack if this succeeds. Even if it fails, the activation chance that built up returns to 10%
tl;dr it activates more often at lower HP or vigor, but it's unreliable at best. Probably why Dandy bundled it with a cheat death mechanic.

From what we have seen, i think its based on when you push your ice ESP too far for your body to handle, and then body permanently looses its ability to cope. Kinda like with diabetes and sugar, where the body looses the ability properly create insulin internally.
My guess for when it happened for Leton would be during the attack on the Alley.
Alternatively Frozen Blood might happen from prolonged over use, slowly causing wear and tear on the body. Which would also make sense for Leton since he lived a rough youth with no access no medical advice and parents to warn him.

>without being in Overcharge, Red Sand Rangers do 20-30ish damage to her in critical HP
>Sweepers still rape her like they do to most janky Berserker builds
Her damage is still pending investigation. Her full HP crit at long range with no Frenzy stacks on a Red Sand Sniper was around 2200 damage from still stance, which is kinda depressing, but I did build her to a very specific set of parameters (close range, Frenzy, low HP) so it's not super surprising

I'm only around level 40 but right now it feels like Anne is the robot disposal squad. She's mostly useless but once she's in range of a bicron she nukes it to shreds in one hit.
Maybe it's because I'm playing on hard with Paranoid+Fetter of the Past, but it seems most of my units without Impulse Fields either get oneshotted on a crit, or barely take any damage because they block/dodge everything, no in-between. So Anne's healing hasn't been too useful.

Albus is the one that feels very non-versatile to me right now. I had him as a Magic Knight with Soul Drain so he could forget about vigor, which was great in the early game, but he started getting killed on the frontlines. So I swapped him to Great Swordsman, and he survives a bit better... but now his ranged options are useless and he runs out of vigor too fast.
Compared to Heixing and Ray full-clearing the screen every turn and jerking each other off with Inner Peace + Role Delegation, it feels like there's nothing for Albus to do. Unless he's in a narrow hallway full of weak melee units, I guess. At least Irene can run off on her own and start soloing with Hero. Maybe my build for him is missing some obvious thing.

the problem is youre playing MK in the midgame when that class is rather weak. MK is great in the early game since it can ignore vigor problems, and then its great in DLC2 because it can survive the 50 quintillion reaction shot actions. Mid game though? Its kinda bad.

GS is really good vs robots you just need to have the set that turns enemy block reduction to 25% instead of 50% and slap on bladestorm. Also you really want to have good block on albus, its his most important stat (and probably the most important stat in general). Try fitting Bloodbath (synergy) in there. It lets him chain turns very well both from Forestallment and Tornado Slash letting him act again if he doesn't kill on the first strike. You can even chain it with One Strike, One Head and Catharsis, but that's a bit gimmicky, particularly because of the Vigor issues. There's not a lot of great ways to solve it early, having some Vigor recovery from gear helps a lot, White Mage Anne can battery Vigor a bit, but it's the biggest issue I have with GS. The fortunate part is he can still do his job of covering ZOC, tanking and killing stuff with Forestallment/Counterattack even if you're lacking in Vigor, and you'll always have your SP turns to dump expensive things or cast Wind Veil for free to gather up some Vigor.

I don't like Somersault on Superstar because its cooldown is so long that it fucks up the performance types of all the moves after it.
Ice Arrow is always a delicate dance unless your punch is on cooldown so you can spam it to reduce the cooldown of your other skills, most notably Warming Up and Improvisational Wrap Up, and Ice Spear is a combination of relatively good damage, a ranged Delicate Dance when Ice Arrow is on cooldown (which lets it reset Ice Arrow) and an easy 3-turn cooldown which takes no time at all to come back when you're spamming delicate dances

As funny as the AoE nukes are its a higher highs with lower lows for me vs yasha monarch or the fire yasha from pascal's hideout. >abuses Superstar's ability to spam ice ESP to heal himself, which also makes his turns come back faster

>fast turns = lots of performances = tons of AT manip
>Surprise has an interaction with Quick Grasp of the Situation where you get QGotS triggers from surprised enemies, cutting your turns down even further (it even takes place post-turn if you end your turn with a surprise so it goes past the 36AT limit)
Its disadvantages are that it's pretty weak offensively even with Willpower, and it gets exhausted in Mind-Body Unity very easily which is a death sentence, but it's pretty fun to screw around with

Haven't tested it yet because I really need to sleep, but I made a meme. Recently I've been continuing to read through the game's code and I learned the damage increase from fire SP is a bit interesting: It doesn't get increased or decreased by anything in the game except armour, resistance and ice SP, so with this build Irene has 3300 flat damage that only gets reduced by your armour or resistance. Barbarians on suicide watch, but you're safe for now because it's not in joint training yet.

I'm being trolled beyond all reason with regards to enemy team RNG tonight (no fucking barbs when you want them, and those I've seen didn't have Final Resistance) but here are a couple of comparison screenshots to show how fire SP doesn't get affected by percentage damage reduction
>Repetitive Training: 2% reduced damage taken per Fighter or Martial Artist mastery
Anonymous No.2075097
Alright here's a Safety First Final Resistance fucker.
Other than the glitched armour calculation in the first one (because she has 0 pre-armour incoming damage), you can see fire SP does get around the % reductions, but armour is actually pretty strong so you still don't hit all that hard even with 550 Fire SP.
I do have the 5-piece flame negoori set though, so I do 550 flat fire damage at the end of each turn in an AOE which can't be stopped. If I had Fire Bolt as well it would add up to quite a lot to supposedly hard-to-damage enemies.

There's something really fucking weird going on with the damage calculations here
>3300 damage from fire SP which should only be getting affected by armour/resistance if I understood the code correctly
>there is more than enough damage reduction from percentage sources to cancel out all of the non-SP damage (2410 vs 1891 respectively)
>yet I'm doing 1144 damage instead of 3300 - 1537 = 1763
>619 damage is unaccounted for
>run the numbers a bunch
>the non-armour DR is 2410 and the non-SP damage is 1891
>2410 - 1891 = 519 overflow damage reduction
>519? Not 619? *checks 5 separate times, including re-counting everything*
>the total outgoing/incoming damage DOES add up to the 1144 figure the game says, but there's still exactly 100 damage missing
It's probably split among the %damages and I misunderstood the code. What a weird fucking thing.
Anonymous No.2075157 >>2075158 >>2075338
This is the actual damage formula in the game's code (shared_battle_damage.lua, lines 59-60)
From what I thought I understood from reading the code and associated masteries,
>OriginalMultiplier is the total % damage increases from things like Sharpening and One-Inch Punch
>OriginalDemultiplier is the total % damage reduction from things like Forgotten Pain and Blade Evasion
>AdditionalDamage is literally only used by Fire SP and Ice SP (Ice SP gives negative additional damage)
>FinalMultiplier is literally only used for Miracle
>Crits are handled separately in a different part of the code
>so are "event damage" calculations, ie Magic Explosion, Special Armour and Magic Shield
Am I just misunderstanding the formula?

Forgot to mention
>SplashRatio is for falloff with things like Irene's Flame Explosion that doesn't do the same damage to all targets

Anonymous No.2075186
I talked to the anon whose Alisa that was, according to him Alisa's damage reduction from Blunt Resistance is 74.34% and her damage reduction from Fire Resistance is 57.31%
Those numbers give even different figures that I can't work out how they relate to the damage that was actually dealt in-game, but one thing's clear: %damage reduction IS affecting the damage from fire SP, but in some weird non-linear way that comes out subtractive in the end

Our game does not feature Giselle breastfeeding draki hatchlings. Giselle breastfeeding draki hatchlings is simply irrelevant in the world we are portraying. The world we are building is one where issues like Giselle breastfeeding draki hatchlings are insignificant - a world focused more on meaningful and valuable aspects of life, like tender handholding lovemaking with Miss Kylie in the missionary position for the purpose of procreation.

Ryo being playable is the bigger issue. He's supposed to already be a total bad-ass, so either they'll have to handwave depowering him or we only get him very late. This is a common, and understandable, complaint, but I actually like 46s being anticlimactic. The White Tigers being gradually worn down rather defeated in one climactic battle seems more realistic to me, and I appreciate the ludo-narrative harmony of progressing through 31v to 35s to 46s. I remember when thinking the spoonist pyromancers were dangerous because of fire veil stuns, but in later missions it's actually a relief to see spoonists because they're so weak. Then the white tigers were introduced and they felt dangerous and tanky. But by the end of the main game they're jobbers, and you're glad to see them instead of the mercenaries who wreck your shit if you try fighting on that one escape map with Isaac. Then it feels like you outclass even the mercenaries. And the clowns arrive, with every black clown being like a miniature Darius... but I feel like i outscaled them quicker, maybe it's just me

>get tons of line of sight, particularly where you suspect there might be traversable areas
>select a long ranged unit and use V with their longest attack
>if the terrain lights up with their attack range, that's a valid tile even if it looks like it might not be, for example the tiles on the street in this screenshot
>use Albus / Heixing / Misty to dash to it

I haven't finished the game yet but for drones, it feels like the heaviest armor available + as much attack power as possible + responsive fire + Multiple Calculating Device = instant deployable meatgrinder/meatshield. Each drone feels stronger than some of the human units by itself and she can summon two. Then you get the mastery that makes summoning a free action, so she can summon two drones AND a hologram that baits everything into charging blindly at the drones. I have an incinerator and a firefighter, not sure if the others are any better.

Everyone else covered it and you also have the right of it, Engineer makes her Drones more powerful while Hacker makes Kylie herself more capable. Hacker is the only way to reduce the Cast Delay on Kylie's Support Protocols, as the stat from Masteries will only work on her Attack Protocols. 30 and 40 for her Act Again and Reactive Matrix respectively aren't so bad early, but it starts becoming expensive later. The free move is fantastic for getting around elevation, just moving farther as well as positioning for Reinforced Attack Protocol. You'll always have Reactive Matrix up, and combined with Scholar Masteries it's easy to reach 100% Block. It also works very well with some DLC Spirit Masteries but those are sadly late. Finally she's naturally a bit better at hacking stuff which quite a few missions have good robots to steal. It's really centered around the stuff you can do with the -1 AP cost, but that also makes it a very flexible class since you don't even need a Synergy for that.

It's because Dandy (like most devs) are pretty sloppy with their boundaries. There are a lot of places where they made a border of 1-2 blocked tiles and didn't bother to disable the ones beyond it. Also there's a consistent pattern throughout the game that anywhere characters move in a cutscene is a valid tile.

Specifically incinerator drones because they can hit multiple enemies with reactive fire, i.e. one runs in and gets hit, stops, another one runs in and they both get hit, repeat. Firefighter drones to sandbag AT.

Blood Moon and White Sandstorm are pretty good, but the thing that makes Earth builds work is the Mud Negoori set that has a bunch of effects that scale off your Earth masteries.
There's also Stone Throwing which is a single mastery that reduces enemy block by the amount your own increases from Earth SP, which can get pretty gnarly when you start to scale that with Goddess of Abundance + SP boosting masteries/items. Combine all that with Witch also having a mastery set that scales their damage per ESP mastery, and Earth Anne becomes a decent meme

Great Plains is good as a standalone. Verdure Magician is alright filler when you have too many points. Anne gets nice benefits out of getting stronger Overcharge effect and duration for maintaining high Block. I really wouldn't fault anyone for ignoring every Earth mastery on her other than Prosperity and Great Plains. Not that Rock Castle is bad, but you do have to build around it, so it makes the board less flexible. The Sandstorm stuff is fun but not only do other characters do chain killing a lot better, Anne can do chain killing better with a normal OSOK build.

The way I'd go about it is to disregard grenades and use her starlight AOE on enemies. If they die in one hit, One Shot One Kill activates. If they survive they're blind, which sets up for your Sandstorm AP recovery.
Anonymous No.2090806 >>2090807

She won't get her AOE frequently if you're taking advantage of Stone Throwing. She gets a significant amount of Block reduction from that combined with Goddess of Abundance and Furious Sand Storm. These mastery sets really promote staying in and buffing your Overcharge. You could cut that but then we're starting to get away from making an Earth-focused build. The Flash Grenades along with the Magic Shield stuff aren't especially important, though The Expert takes advantage of the 2 AP recovery in a fun way. It's lacking a bit of consistency as is so that probably is the thing to cut.

>Egoist - All Support slot expansions + A Strict Refusal (all except the left columns), requires 2 Defence slots which is bad news for most builds and out of the question for that one
>Seeker of Enlightenment - All Basic slot expansions + Honesty (1 of every category except Basic), which is generally pretty easy to fit into a board unless your name is Alisa

That's a good way to look at it. You know Social Life is no good here too since I need every Defence slot even with Sophistry and A Strategic Retreat. Kelpie is the least desirable thing but it's worth 3 sets so the value is high.

Final revision. Losing Ninjutsu Ninja sucks, but if the idea is to reduce cooldown by dodging, it's a necessary sacrifice. To get that cooldown reduction from dodging you need Dewdrop and Drizzle, so that necessitated finding Support slots and cutting The Perfect Stakeout. What it mostly provided is further damage reduction stacking, though losing -5 AT on dodges sucks. If you cut Rain Shower you can do Keyboard Warrior and you have 3 slots and 10 points to play with in your Attack section and get similar offensive firepower plus other utility with some more levels, mine is 53. Rain Shower can also be cut to fit in The Perfect Stakeout with Rational Suspicion, but I like the more reliable offense, can go either way. I doubt this build is especially functional outside of Limit Break.

Works pretty well. This is without Still Stance. Getting Hideout every turn has conflict with Still Stance, since Hideout doesn't activate if you're already in cover. You can use Water Stride to get around that, and really it's for the more resilient targets anyway. With that she'd be piercing all the block, though.

Yeah, I'm using the Unicorn Dagger. The second hit will also have an extra 100% damage from inflicting Wet (that was also the wrong skill but the damage on the double hit is actually slightly better so that's immaterial). Willpower would be good too since she does have 205% ESP scaling on it. Currently the roadblock is I once again missed something, cutting Escape Plan means she doesn't Hideout to smoke, which is pretty important. Back to the drawing board after the mission.

You could also settle for -35 using Best Condition and Gathering instead. There's also Please Help Me! for another -35 total too, or combine it with one of the former options for infinite turns again. Battle Mage can do it too with CMP shenanigans. tracer rounds give detected and clear her stealth. She can actually solo that map by herself since its actually evening and finally they let you use darkness hunter + wildcat to send everyone to AT hell while you dont get touched.

My favorite build with her is DH+WC and then you toss in any effect that gives AT reduction one LR trigger and she will pretty much always hit her minimum action time. Then you throw in any set that reduces AT on forestallment kills and she can chain turns into one another by plopping her juicy gamer ass inbetween two enemies when going for a kill.

Whatever reliably gets you near 36 before the end of their turn and not a single point more. It'd vary based on masteries, cast delay, etc.
The formula for action time is 36 * (. 5 + 100 / speed). This means going from 60 speed to 80 speed decreases AT by 15 points, but going from 80 to 100 only decreases it by 9 points. So if you already have 80 speed and there's a mastery that can give you -10 AT, that's actually better than Extreme Speed + Shukuchi set bonus for +20 speed total. For that reason I'd say 80 is a decent spot to switch from stacking speed to stacking -AT.

But I still think Shukuchi is great most of the game, you can slap it on any character and they get +20 speed and +2 move distance, Lightning Reflexes is obligatory anyway. This is usually enough to bump their AT way down. By the late game when you can equip Draki's Perfect Scale instead, you no longer need the +20 speed so you can remove it for something else.

Also, certain characters/builds don't even care about speed. Like Heixing/Giselle with You're Already Dead. That gives -20 AT for every target put out of action. Do that once and it's equivalent to going from 94 speed to 200 speed, which puts into perspective how pointless stacking speed is after a certain point.

The thing about most AT refunds is they're generally conditional. Having high Speed at a baseline will always give you fast turns, even when you fail your condition. The diminishing returns for stacking it further are pretty harsh, though. What's more important is how easy is the Speed to get. Eventually Spirit people get Professionalism, some classes have cheap and easy Speed Masteries and sets using them that are good otherwise, the gear available to them is another thing. Taking the lower Speed gear because it has more Move Distance or Block or Dodge for my particular build is an option I'll take a lot. 100 Speed puts you at 53, 56 is a good breakpoint if you have -20, if you have enough to get 46 AT turns then you can use Run or an equivalent to get 36 AT turns, it's all about these sorts of things. Anyway since you can get a lot of Speed just from tweaking your gear affixes, cutting some of it from your board is often fine. And for the really fast people, they'll reliably take their turns fast, which again has its own value.

Speed in this game isn't as simple as that. The difference between 55 AT + Best Condition and 40 AT + Best Condition is that the person with 40 AT will take 40% more turns than the one with 55 AT. It's the same sort of tomfoolery as how the difference between 90% and 95% damage reduction is half damage taken even though it's only a 5% increase, and going from 50% to 70% damage reduction is a 20% increase.
I like to have speeds around 100-110 for my own units if I can which is around 55-50 AT, but really more is better as long as you're not sacrificing important stuff. Movement distance is important stuff. It's always a god-stat in SRPGs and Troubleshooter is no exception.

Also, Ortega's HP total is calculated to be almost exactly the amount of damage the default build + items Misty is capable of outputting with her basic attack.

I'm still mad that the Triads never appeared in a violent case.
They had a nice farewell scene after their final story mission, but I'd still like to fight them in an environment of actual horror like 54V or Mungo Hell. They'd also work best if they were placed in close proximity to each other (due to their bonding masteries), which isn't the case in the only mission where they all appear in.

I ended up going back with my Yasha and getting to those tiles, and what transpired was a long journey
Also holy fuck, if you're going to go extensively out of bounds, REMEMBER TO PUT SPEED ON YOUR YASHA, I had 89AT turns for the entirety of this, often even more from cast delay, and i had to make sure enemies neither died nor killed all the green units for the whole thing

This was the first of what would be many drops. You need to use Spiderweb Drop for most of these jumps because it has no sight limitation, so you can pass through otherwise literally solid terrain that blocks sight in an attempt to prevent exactly what I did.

I range checked again and saw my next target: A tile that I hadn't been able to see earlier with Sion's lightning storm rangefinding. It's been a while since I've done this so I might be getting the exact mechanics wrong, but if you would apply Frostbite to an enemy that is Frozen, it instead resets the duration of Frozen. Leton has a Mastery that passively applies Frostbite to enemies near him each turn. So you can keep an enemy locked down indefinitely without damaging them.

Sion and Annes are fine too. The only one that was truly disappointing was Rays, they really dropped the ball on her character entirely in the final DLC and it shows. Even in White Lion & Black Witch she had good moments, but she got absolutely nothing in Crimson Crow. And the DLC ends with Heixing and Leton heading off after Carter and Ray just stays in Windwall to become a construction worker, Dandylion clearly decided to stop using her altogether.

That dialogue is incorrect, I don't know if you're posting a screenshot from an older version before they updated it or what, but what Pascal actually says there is "If only I could have accepted it like you" which is him talking about how if he could have accepted death, the way Heixing has, he wouldn't have ended up betraying all the ideals he once stood for and becoming a far worse monster than a weapons designer by doing so.

That's fine, she served her role well. There's no need to drag a character whose purpose has been fulfilled into the next chapter.
I'm sure that she'll still be part of the plot, even if not as a playable character.
