Kingdom Rush General - who loves these fucking tower defense games as much as I do? They are S-tier, no question. Bloons is A-tier. It's not even a contest.

They have 5 titles and hopefully another on the way. All games are full of vibrant art and detail, touches of love, and lots of content. They are challenging on the highest difficulties, but fair.

I wanted to get everyone's general opinion on the game, and just discuss mechanics in general, as well as gripe about things we find annoying or that we would like to see changed/added in future titles or updates.

Anyway - Kingdom Rush general - which of the 5 titles is your favorite, least favorite, and why?

Kingdom Rush with modern/guns would be dope. I would mimic their style and do that if I got inspired and wouldn't get shit on for copying them. There's a Chinese version of Kingdom Rush (I forget what it's called, but it's good) that gets flak but I think it's just how gaming works. It takes the exact same format but plays identical and brings more attention to the original franchise.

Anyway do you have any ideas or suggestions or towers, enemy types, or story for a modern-day style KRTD game?

I played the original, frontiers and origins before getting burned up, all of them are great, but I guess frontiers was my favorite, felt like the most polished version of the orignal, but I like the original's setting more.
Also, the Steam version of Kingdom Rush fucked artillery somehow and it was awful, only the Tesla towers felt viable at harder difficulties.

Alliance made it so you can have 2 heroes plus swap towers. Vengeance also did this. It adds a lot of variety and layers of possible strategy to the games. I highly recommend them. Origins was great too, and I agree with you that Frontiers was their most polished. They added Endless to Frontiers which I love. I'd want to see it in all their games, for all domains but that's asking a lot.

What about artillery was fucked in the Steam version? I didn't notice that at all. I was able to spam artillery and I've beaten literally every stage in every game on the highest difficulty.

Felt weaker overall compared to the flash version, though when I played it was before they introduced heroes, so maybe they balanced between release and the steam version.

Steam version always had heroes, didn't it? I've had it since launch but I forgot if that was an update added, or just the change from flash. Either way, never recall the artillery being weak unless you're using it in bad locations. In fact I used it plenty.

Go check out the 2 newest ones if you have the time, money, and interest. I can't see you not enjoying the extra tower choices, 5 different types to take at a time, mix-and-match.

Alliance, the most recent, having 2 heroes plus the 5-tower loadout style has been the most complex and most enjoyable for me simply because the game never gets boring. You always have options to try and have to be on your game constantly on the highest difficulties because you're managing the extra hero on top of everything else.

Could we maybe make a TD general instead? I enjoy TD games but people keep making threads for individual titles and they all die in like 25 posts max.
Unless it's about Bloons, because Bloons players are hardcore autistic.

I tried the fifth one
It has far to much feature bloat, and everything feels plastic
The upgrade system was hideous and no longer used the stars
The heroes were both generic and out of place, the towers (There are like 20 now) had no common theme
I stopped at level 3 and I will not start again
The first one was much better

I just replayed the first two (hadn’t touched them since I was a kid) on mobile. The games are fun although the second one feels less balanced. I just wish they didn’t paywall most of the heroes and you could unlock them somehow.

If you're on Android, you can take the Play Pass to play all the games in the series for free with all the heroes unlocked.
And some of the heroes are indeed unbalanced, even better than towers: Ignus from KR was really strong, though micro-heavy; Bonehart from KR:F was nuts; Phoenix in KR:O was almost as good; and Eiskalt in Vengeance was plain broken.

Nonsense. The fifth allows you to use two heroes, way more challenging on the higher difficulties, and having to micro the two along with towers are other stuff keeps you on your toes.

First game was good, but Frontiers (2nd game) was probably the peak to most people. It's still one of my favorite of them all.

The thing about Vengeance and Alliance (4th and 5th titles) is they changed it to 5 towers to loadout at a time, with a ton of towers in each (20 or so, like you saw) and people didn't take to this as well. Each tower only has one max upgrade path with 3 abilities, as opposed to the first three games where you had 4 towers, each with 2 branched maxed tower paths to choose, so in essence every map you played you could have 8 different towers at a time.

I like both, but I can see why people wished it stayed the game as it did in the first three games.

The first game has the worst mechanics with heroes, which they changed in the second game which is the same in titles 3, 4, and 5. In the first game heroes begin at level 1 on every map you play and level by fighting on each stage. The problem is some take forever to hit level 10 and if they don't hit it you can have trouble beating the highest difficulty on later stages.

In titles 2 through 5 heroes keep their level through stages, you level them up to 10, then go back to try the highest difficulties and harder stages knowing your heroes are maxed, making it a bit easier in that regard.

Either way I love every one of the titles and have played them multiple times.

My brother and I loved the shit outta these games. 1-3 are peak, never really could get into the later ones.
Sarelgaz's Lair is probably my favorite level of all time to this day, though all the Jungle Levels in 2 and the Floating City levels in 3 are great as well.
My brother is an illustrator now and his style was actually influenced somewhat by the art direction in 3

Only played the first one to completion and Frontiers up to the second boss iirc
Got the GoG version of the original installed a few days ago and played it again plus the extra content which I never had a kid. The extra elite missions are cool, I have already done the bandit, orc and spider ones, next I'll do the troll missions, then the ones in the right side of the map which I imagine are harder.

Just beat Pandaemonium. Damn that stage really was far harder than anything else in the game. Only managed to 2star it since a cerberus slipped through. I think the key was to upgrade the barracks to paladins with the heal upgrade to stall them for long.
Moloch wasn't all that hard actually since his insta kill is so predictive you can actually stall him a lot with your hero. Just move the hero away every now and then.

Very comfy games, started out playing them years ago on mobile, always appreciated the graphics and simplicity. Played them again on PC a few months back, surprisingly comfy still, especially on harder difficulties trying to figure out how to win.

What I dislike as the games go on is they become more complex, I suppose it's inevitable with each new iteration but if not careful you risk adding shit just for the sake of it.

Other things i didn't like were how events would happen with no warning that fuck you over. Like having to delete half your towers and build different ones hastily just so you could counter 1 ridiculous enemy at the end of a level. and the games were too short.

Astroturfing is the practice of creating a fake grassroots movement, often by disguising corporate or political interests as genuine public opinion

If a company posts fake reviews to promote a product, it could be considered false advertising, which is illegal. Influencers and employees can also face legal consequences if they fail to disclose their association with said company. Your company will not protect you, they will say you acted alone.

Don't risk getting netted into a legal battle, it's not worth it.

I like TD games as casual time wasters, but I can't get into higher difficulties.
It just becomes repeated trial and error, testing how far I can go with what I have and save money for a more powerful and cost effective tower.
Also really annoyed with stuff like have tower x by round y or lose or the game not telling me a towers fire rate or damage.

The first 3 were so good. The ones after that, they got rid of the branching upgrades gimmick that I thought was the best thing about the tower system. If anything they should have had even more elaborate upgrade paths.

It is definitely unique among the slop of td games.
I wish they removed the skull shop feature in the steam release and made the last few levels possible without it.
