I like most of these changes too.
I don't really understand why US got so many buffs though, they can now have a pershing with 76mm shermans and ISC buffed infantry all at once, seems a bit much. At the same time it kills builds like airborne battlegroup + MSC T2/3 skip because you can now have ISC buffs for airborne AND 76mm shermans. Completely murdered any reason to go MSC unless the new MG buff is superior fire drill tier.
I'm not going to have time to play CoH for a while so I'll miss out on this patch, but I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of axis seethe online.

Depends on what you're looking for. imo:

CoH1
>Skirmish
CoH2
>PvP
CoH3

CoH1 has all content unlocked from the start, CoH3 has battlegroups that you can reasonably grind for plus one DLC that you can only buy, CoH2 has a ton of paid commanders that you can technically grind but it takes forever if you're starting fresh.
Also some people swear that CoH3's Italy campaign, which is mostly skirmishes with a strategic map layer, is actually good. I thought it was dogshite but I guess it depends.

CoH 3 is mechanically the best and most interesting CoH game, and I've played them all. Initially I really disliked the Graphics, I still think they're a downgrade in some regards, but I've gotten used to them.

As for the balance changes I don't get the US buffs. Allies seem stronger in general and the Germans are not getting shit. If US is getting 76mms as a default, Wehr should be getting Panthers without the doctrine.

Sherman was so shit at dealing with tanks it became an anti-infantry tank in the same building with Bulldozer. It always should be upgradable like BARs.PzIV can pen allied toy tanks with ease so I don't get how fixing this bullshit took so long.
What we really should do is remove manpower cheats from the game.

Mortar buffs are huge. Shells used to arrive 3-5 seconds later. It's halved at best now. I'm going mortar half track every game until I see what US players run with.

I don't know about that, anon. US only got buffs to their teching while Wehr got a stat buff to coastals, falls, pgrens, StuGs, marders and the ketten (since capped points don't give vision anymore)
DAK got a buff to the m13/40 and CA for support weapons.
Also don't forget the US captain was bugged and giving more XP than it should have, that's fixed now.

I'm genuinely unsure of why they felt that US needed 76mm shermans without any opportunity cost when their infantry is so good and the 75mm aren't terrible anyway.
Jager nerf was needed because the jager shreck dead blob happened every single game but their anti infantry buff doesn't seem to be good enough to make them viable anti infantry mainlines like they said they want them to be on the patch notes.

How will team games turn out now when 4 US players take Air Support Centre, and have 4 Free Strafes and Smaller Bombing runs for free basically routing all axis forces to their base by magic button? Especially with the dependence on MG play by Wehr? If you go coastals you'll get bombed out of any garisson.

Wehr now has only Panzergrenadiers as a viable option, Jagers are glasscannons, ambush was nerfed. Grenadies have a huge cooldown to merge so you don't even think about merging into Stoss if you can get them.

Not to talk about Brits getting yet another Matilda front armor buff so now the only thing which can reliably pen the thing is probably a panther, a Afrika Corps Marder with Tungsten and/or both tigers.

US was perfectly fine with normal sherman. It was a tank roughly on the level of the Panzer IV. The 76 dominates every axis tank except the Panther and there it's close. Also it's effective against infantry where the Panther is not. TO get 76s you had to sacrifice something, now you just get it along with all options.

Prepare for US Terror with either fast bars before you can react shredding your subpar Wehr infantry, or total airborne play with getting fucked by strafes, paras and OP Para MGs. And even if you survive somehow there is no way Wehr can compete against something like 76s + Airborne + Air Support centre.

Btw I still don't see a Pershing buff which is dominating compared to any other heavy tank due to being fast as fuck and hard to kill anyway.

I love the new maps. They should make more gimmicky maps at this stage of the game. I still like Lorraine but I don't like how attacking one base is much harder than attacking the other one. Most play is probably going to be outside those areas, though, unless there's an absolute steamroll going on.

I've been trying the new coastals, as expected the new vet1 ability almost never comes into play unless the map has a lot of useful garrisons.
I don't think fighting nests are worth it, bunkers might be since they also reinforce your coastals for free but it's hard to find a spot where they force the enemy to engage you and also aren't going to get destroyed immediately.
I go Pgren company because I want panzergrenadiers to push team weapons and also I'd rather have AT guns than shrecks, then I go StuGs but it isn't working out too well, my army is just too static.
I haven't gone coastal + mortars maybe I should that's a decent way to make the enemy come to you.
The faster obice is very cool, it's actually plausible to get value out of it now.

This isn't really working out in 1v1.
Assault carriers dominate open fields and you can't do anything about them until you have dedicated AT, it messes up the early game pretty bad.
Funny obice for funny wipes works well but I was greedy and built multiple obices instead of teching up. There's only so much that 3 AT guns can do against the sherman horde.

AT guns and jager shrecks are a soft counter that forces them to back off, but until there's a StuG or the panzerbรผchse 221 there's no real way to threaten an assault carrier short of a lucky mine in front of an AT gun.
But at that point they're getting the 75mm upgrade and they become soft counters to your vehicles and team weapons.
Wher doesn't have an equivalent to panzerjagers/boys/zooks so early hitting strong vehicles are a pain to deal with.

Because of their damage reduction passives it takes LG40s 4 hits to kill an assault halftrack, the pak 40 takes 3 hits. Better than nothing but not exactly a counter.

The reason why I hate John Relic was that he never played the game outside 'fake matches'. I used to see the other devs play actually outside work hours.

Also his job was reddit and writing up the patch notes, you know that one essay due in six months that your dad actually does all the work.

Furthermore the man was just a professional liar ("We didn't want to give you those fake Hollywood sound effects")

I think the smoke grenade used to be the veteran ability and then they changed it because it was miserable.
Can't remember if assault disembark is vet1 or vet0 but that wouldn't have a cooldown.

The important change is that they made the grenade instant instead of having a 2-second windup time. Used to be the easiest grenade to dodge and now it's almost undodgeable. By the time you hear the callout it's too late to react, so you need to be watching the fight and react to the animation.

Company of heroes has the worst streamers. Always complaining about luck, can't push them or it's "unga bunga monkey gameplay", but if the enemy is winning without pushing then "it's so boring, I could probably win this but I'm just so bored", every time someone gets value out of a fast vehicle they're "dogshit players who abuse broken units."
You might think it doesn't matter but I see this trickle down to my games all the time where bad players will repeat streamer copes verbatim.
>"What, a 221 against my rangers? So boring dude! Every game is like this, so boring, wow you're such a good player for abusing meta!" -my opponent in my first game against rangers, 3 days or so after that battlegroup came out

Why is the CoH playerbase always so negative and cringe?

"it's fucking nothing" tier, it's still an expensive anti-infantry infantry unit that won't beat any infantry on its own when it comes out unlike pgrens. Ironically accuracy and RA buffs will make them better for the shreck blob instead of buffing their anti infantry capabilities
