What do you think of Imperator: Rome with the Invictus mod?

How about this: go play Imperator, instead of spamming this board with a dead project of a failed game.
Even better: go play EU: Rome and ask yourself what could have been. Yourself, not this board

I recommend anyone looking forward to EU V to play, because it's going to have a lot of similar mechanics.

I feel like I either don't get this game, or don't get the entire grand strat genre in general.
It feels like imperator is just a map painter. A blobbing simulator.
All the pop management and internal stuff? Yeah it's there, and it ain't all that. The game is still all about blobbing and expanding, and little else.

Why play this game, or any other paradox game that isn't HoI4?
They're ALL about war and blobbing but at least HoI4 has deeper combat mechanics than just making doomstacks.

Seriously what is the point of CK, EU, and this game? It's JUST WAR but doomstacks wtf

I'm a degen and only play HoI4 with the pony mod
Degeneracy aside, it's a really good mod because it adds CK-like character mechanics and turns HoI4 into the literal perfect Paradox game.
I tried the rest and they don't stack up at all

>Stellaris
Every playthrough is the same: send out scout ships, get systems/improve your econ if you're going tall, build massive doomstacks and win

>CK2 and 3
Play around with the quiks that you got (religion, character being a retard etc) which is admittedly interesting, but once you solve them you just build doomstacks and win

>EU4
Trade, build doomstacks, win.

>Imperator
Keep your pops happy, integrate foreign pops, build doomstacks and win.

If all I'm going to be doing is war, why not play the game with the best war mechanics?

I usually am but sometimes I also play games made by paradox. Also you're imho misunderstanding both stellaris and ck. The first is about reading thru exploration events until you're bored or die to lag and the second you can't really win. You just fuck around, literally, until you're bored.

And no, not a fan of HoI4 despite multiple attempts. The way the game is set up around muh focus and being locked into factions rubs me wrong. The AI still being incapable to use most of the features the game offers isn't helping any either.

Not too many unfortunately. Main reason why they exist on the market at all if I had to guess. That said I'd warmly recommend both of the Imperialism games from the now long dead Frog City, something from the Chariots of War/Legion Slitherine/Matrix long running series or if you're purely in for the combat a proper hex strategy in the vein of Panzer General. Koei also has a bunch of their own but they're somewhat unique and especially the older games can be harder to get into if you didn't grow up with them.

As the story goes in the last years of the US frontier a reporter went to interview an old Indian chief.
Respected elder, you were around long enough to remember the land before the white man came?
Yes.
How was it?
The men fished and hunted all day. Then we whooped and drank the whole night. The women gave birth to children, tilled the fields and cooked.

Makes you think who were the crazy ones. The crazy fucks that used peppers instead of money and played the throw a head thru the stone wall anus guys or the guys that invented such niceties as minimum wage, income tax and gender rights.

I think it's probably the easiest game to troll /vst/ with.
Everyone knows it's a complete shitshow and never got finished or even abandoned in playable state. The character stuff in Imperator is super shallow, definitely. In fact every time a character event popped up I wasn't very interested.
The kino part of Imperator are the non-character events: suddenly one of your granaries has been raided, the Antagonid Kingdom started to collapse, someone destroyed a holy relic somewhere, that kind of thing.

Where Imperator's character system works is with your ruler: you control your nation, but not him. He has his own personal wealth and he can become corrupt, syphoning funds out of the treasury. That part is cool and fun to manage. Everybody else? Eh... if they're disloyal just bring them to trial or let them start a civil war, you can stomp them easily usually.

I still prefer to play Imperator to CK2 or 3, but that may be because I'm new to both. Maybe Imperator is easier to "solve" and once I do I won't like it as much, but I do prefer its lack of bloat.

Ask a country for alliance >>>>>> marriage bullshit

Why do you say that? What do other countries lack that Rome/Carthage/Greece have?
If you mean the missions then the Invictus mod adds a shitload of mission trees to a ton of countries.
If you mean the whole senate thing, there are other countries with a republic government, and you can always change into a republic if you aren't one.

Seriously what exactly do other countries lack? They're literally all the same in terms of content (missions aside, but Invictus fixes that as I said)

Just like the fact a 2019 recreation of 2007 game in a 1:1 format is a terrible idea, but yet here we are.
It always baffles me how much people struggle with the basic concept that is "this game had terrible base idea, copied from a genuinely bad game without a single thought put into making it work better, and then got abandoned while trying to patch the shitty monstrosity"
It's a very simple concept, but for past 4 years or so people are having a really hard time grasping it

Honestly... the game is still good and the mod kinda fixes a lot of the issues devs never managed to fix. The issue is that it also adds a lot of non-historical bullshit for a lot of factions. I remember I decided not to play it anymore when I noticed they made Siculs a MATRIARCHY.
