Tried a handful of turn based games but most of them gave me pretty bad first impressions. I enjoyed There Are No Orcs though. Little chinese auto battler roguelite. Basically a warcraft 3 mod. Build buildings and units come out and run at the enemy base.

Also not stratgy, but Terratech Legion was fun. Vampire Survivor clone, but you're building an ugly car as you go. Changing the shape of the car and adding weapons to take advantage of that shape is really satisfying. Like making crab claws with grinders so driving through crowds grinds them up as you go.

Thanks, I guess. The demo is not pulling big numbers, but any rando opening it and sticking around for a while is a pleasant surprise. Pic rel ~15 so far beat mission 1. Some kept playing, but in the end all dropped somewhere before mission 4.
A handful of people logged into multiplayer, but it seems they were mostly looking for co-op, which wasnโ€™t yet implemented. So I spent today adding it and now itโ€™s also in the demo.

I tried a bunch of random crap that I got on my recommendation queue, but nothing could hold my interest for more than 15 minutes. Maybe it's just because I've already tried everything that was interesting, but it seems to me like there's even more cheap janky shit and asset swap garbage than usual.

Tried out the demo for Mr. President, the PC version of the GMT board game which I have not played because fuck dealing with that many fiddly pieces. Gameplay looks solid, has that Twilight Struggle feeling where you always feel like you just barely have enough actions to deal with the most immediate pressing crises. Demo is really short though, just a snippet of one turn where you try to avoid an auto-loss from China influence/war with Japan.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I liked the demo for ground of aces. Even despite all the modern game clichรฉ amount of browns in the RAF.
It was a bit as if someone made a rimworld mod with most features cut out and narrowing the game down on a few core aspects.
Way more streamlined with less actual options but as a consequence it is also substantially focused on it's one trick.
With a big part also being that the points generated by your planes flying successful missions is the only way to get more crewmembers/ replace the dead ones.

The lack of a tutorial did hurt it though. Sand pits for example are a source of sand if you destroy them but you can also harvest them which doesn't remove he pit itself.

Era One has a demo
This whole Homeworld plus custom-built ships is pretty fucking mind boggling and building a mothership+home base piece by piece is really overwhelming

They only have skirmish mode available but it has a sandbox option so you can fiddle with the systems on your own

But god if any game needs a singleplayer campaign to double as set of tutorials its this game

I don't know if Ball X Pit can be considered strategy, but it has so much soul. Basically combine vampire survivor with a block breaking game. The soundtrack fucking rips, and the little skeleton block enemies chant along to the music. You can only really understand how hype it is by playing it.

Tried it just now, plays like a basic tug-of-war autobattler, but you also get to design the units and even modify their logic. Now that sounds like a game that will filter absolutely everyone and I bet the competitive side of things will be about copy-pasting the most hyperoptimized designs, build orders, and combat logic.

Youve gotten two million comments about the artstyle but ill give you another

I dont think you missed a mark or anything by having a vaguely surreal overall presentation of your game through having such a mishmash of graphics styles
And i dont think you missed a mark with having 2D or 2.5D sprites either-- and the extreme variance of the sprite sets of each 'faction' might also work in favor of the surrealism, or maybe might be a wash.

I can't tell if it would be best to pick one style between 2D or 2.5D, or keep on throwing in both at the same time. Like whether it adds to surrealism's charm or just gets annoying.

But honestly before working on the units i would first look at what you want to do with the building graphics. Those aren't charmingly surreal, just placeholder-y at best and just plain ugly at worst

good luck

Well one problem with the mix is that everyone can find one thing that is to their mind utterly inacceptable.
E.g. around 5-10% of players seemed to be utterly mindbroken by the fact that "Artifacts" were things from a conbenience store. So today I replaced them all with a mixture of jewelry, music instruments and fishing rods. Hope that works better in the context. Itโ€™s sure hard catering to common tastes after having read probably more than half the postmodern oeuvre.
