The American Situation, 2027 Update
January 30, 2027

The situation in America is like a 40-degree (f) day. It could be a lot better, but it could much worse.

First, Biden's Union of America collapsed under the weight of the fascist forces that surrounded her, coupled with Trump's forces engaging her from the west.

Second, Trump's American Constitutional Government hangs on by a mere thread. It has lost its capital of Denver. The new capital, Minneapolis, is under siege by fascist forces. Given the success of the Nippon Intervention Force that saved Europe, Nippon has decided to send four armored divisions to try to save the last vestige of America that remains.

Third, the fascist National Front, which is an alliance that includes the Patriot Front, National Socialist Movement, and the Atomwaffen Division, currently holds the most territory in America. By all accounts, they are "winning" this war. Though what they will win, what ashes they might govern over, when the fighting stops is to be determined. The ATD has most of the traditional American South. The Patriot Front has the Northeast, Virginia, and Tennessee. The NSM has the Midwest. Nippon places the National Front as a bad outcome if they were to win the American Civil War; the country likely would turn isolationist, probably seek to annex Canada, and generally be dishonest and uncooperative in the governance of the world order.

Third, the American People's Liberation Army, which is governed by Caleb Maupin of the "Jacobin" faction. His faction is considered "American Socialism" and has an extreme authoritarian bent. The APLA receives extraordinary resources and soldiers from Shina. They also receive intervention forces from other communist nations, such as North Korea. Nippon intelligence places the APLA as the worst case scenario if they were to succeed and win in the American Civil War, because of their close and extensive ties to Shina.

Time: 4:00 JST

Lieutenant General Takemoto arrived in Minneapolis with the Army under the cover of darkness. They had slipped into America through Canada, traveling down from Winnipeg, crossing the border, and making their way along Highway I-29 south to Fargo, before cutting across over a small muddy river and heading southeast on I-94 to the Twin Cities, as the Americans called it. Takemoto was not happy. It was cold, damned cold. Colder than anything he had experienced. And windy, to where the howling wind cut through you and made it all worse. The Army first spotted the signs of war just outside Minneapolis, where bombed out holes from artillery littered the countryside. Minneapolis itself was a mess, but snow covered some of the damage.

There would be no rest for Takemoto or General Yoshida. They had a meeting to attend, one insisted on by the Americans. They reached the Bunker and left their staff with the corpsmen at the entry.

"Generals, so good of you to make it. He's just right this way." Smiling at them, she led them to a man hunched over a map talking to generals. He straightened and shook their hands. A man in his seventies, he cut an imposing figure.

"Thank you, thank you for coming all this way. And for bringing so many men. Tanks, so many. They say Japan has the best soldiers, you know that? Best cars, probably the best tanks too. Remarkable. You know Abe--Shinzo Abe--and I were good friends. Great man. Great people, the Japanese." He did not look worn out from war, rather he had an energy to him that surprised Takemoto.

"Lauren introduce herself to you? She's a fine, fine Foreign Minister. They said, someone so young? Why not pick someone with more experience? No, no, I wanted a Coloradan, at least someone who represented Colorado. Back when we were based out of there..." He trailed off. "Thank you so much for coming. Anything you need, you let me know." The President of what remained of the United States gave them a thumbs up before glancing at a general to his side--their cue to leave.

The woman, still at their side, escorted them out of the Bunker. "Thank you again for all that you've done. We really mean it. 2027, the year we take back America!"

Then they were alone, outside in the bitter cold, before their staff joined them and they departed.
