I played the demo a bit, and I really enjoyed it.
The core of the game it's good, it's basically Homeword -because the team worked on a mod for the original and worked also on the remaster- in many aspects. ship types are pretty much the same with armament customization, ie. your fighters can have cannons or missile or lasers, which one specialized against slow tanky or quick targets.
Resource collection it's also very similar, you have you basic resource plus energy for mothership modules and crew capacity that is basically an analogue of aoe2 pop. Lot of researches.
The distinct mechanic it's the mothership construction, in the demo you start with a core module, there are a lot of different modules, structures point defense armament and you have to construct your ship with them, in order to have ship building capabilities, firepower and in general economy.
You can build in 3d, so your mothership can be a space station, or a battleship or what you want to be.
The controls of your fleet it's very similar to homeworld, stances, formations, priority of target, even the way in which a ship attack, frontal assault broadside or orbit.
There is much good and a real spiritual successor of the homeworld franchise.
At the current stage the demo show however a lack of polishment in the UI department, it's a mess and they really have to streamline it.
Also there is no tutorial, so the learning curve it's pretty stiff.
Anyhow for any fan of homeworld, I recommend check it out
>>2065477 (OP)I expected nothing else from Team Complex. I wonder if it'll have mods?
I tried it, and I was only really able to play it because I played lots of Homeworld. I played one game of the demo
because the Federation 'mothership' was completely new, I am sure I ended up building some stupid design that made no sense. I thought the thing had no movement until I bought an engine, and I inched it closer to the resource asteroid.
later, when I issued a move command to the mothership, a module collided with an asteroid and got destroyed. while I appreciated that collisions were a thing, of course I'm not pleased that a module got destroyed because I issued a bad move command.
also I don't think the conventional Homeworld ship classes should still apply to this game anymore. the game seems to start out very very slowly anyway and for me it seems like there are so many things to do to get to the next tech "era". let alone the next ship class.
I really like the mothership construction, this game actually builds on the homeworld formula which is a welcome change. For some reason I thought this game was actually some sort of RT4x from the trailers, so it surprised me that it was a homeworld clone made by the complex guys. I am excited for the future of this project, the demo checks out and I have sunk several hours into it despite there being only one faction to play as. Really curious to see how pvp skirmish would play out, I have the distinct feeling that the playerbase is going to optimise all the fun out mothership construction but that's the nature of competitive videogames.
could you at least try to make your paid content less obvious
could you at least try to make your seething less obvious
>>2065477 (OP)>Downloaded the demo>Can barely see shit on the screen>Tutorial asks me to send units to gather from asteroid.>5 minutes elapse and nothing happens>Uninstall and take off from wishlistWew lad, couple of dollarydoos saved
>>2065477 (OP)>it's basically Homeword -because the team worked on a mod for the originalYou have my interest...
>and worked also on the remaster... so it's dogshit and an insult to anyone who liked Homeworld, got it.
>>2066272Did you have to stick thrusters in all six directions for proper maneuverablity?
I guess you also have to worry about turret fire arcs too right?
Fuck
>>2067136it depends how much maneuverability do you ask, but no, if you are fine with your mothership slow as fuck you haven't to put thrusters everywhere. but putting some of them in front and at the sides helps.
fire arc is a thing and is a big deal, as the ship grows bigger you start to notices it and you have to consider it otherwise enemy freighters can park in your blind zones
So it's a good game that blows HW3(lol) out of the water by having functional controls at a basic level.
My only qualms are really UI related. It just seems like a cluttered mess but overall feels better than HW3 again. Also the construction speed thing is a nice touch but the slider feels really finnicky with how small it is and how the game doesn't offer extra feedback on resource consumption so I've just been flipping it between max or none depending on if my resources are capped or empty.
Also I hate how the demo makes you quit out to desktop rather than just allowing you to go back to the main menu.
>>2067136The mothership core comes with manuevering thrusters that still seem to function if you put blocks over them so your mothership can always move a little bit. As you may have guessed this ability to move degrades as you add mass to the hull in the form of more hull, so eventually you'll start needing more thrusters.
>>2066894Same on my first attempt. I even gave the demo a second chance and no, the game is horrifyingly slow. I built a preset modular mining platform and it took like 5 minutes because each module is like 30-60s even your shitty fighter ships are like 20s build time. Techs take forever too, movement is slow. My 20 fighters tool like 15 minutes to shoot down 5 enemy ones. I played for an hour, defeated 3 enemy waves and when I thought what it would take to actually find enemy base and destroy it I just gave up (i think your large ships can build jump drives, but I couldn't be bothered to wait another 20 minutes to get it).
>>2068904Move the sliders up to increase build speed
Also you can build multiple modules or ships simultaneously.
The more I play the less it feels like I'm playing a homeworld clone and the more it feels like I'm playing supcom with a homeworld skin.
The speed of your expansion and the girth of your fleet is limited only by your economy and crew capacity. You make so much back through salvage and everything leaves wrecks to salvage. Once your economy starts humming and you fight a bit you can build so much so quickly that you'll hit your hard crew cap if you don't continue to fight and lose things or at least recycle obsolete ships and modules.
>>2067136that's the thing
NO you don't. it'll be very slow, but you can still move.
>>2069125>supcom with a homeworld skinhold up, this is kino though
I don't play RTS let alone space ones so I appreciate the game's speed.
