The great things about EU4 and Paradox games in general are how massive their official wiki are. The wiki explain tons of basic mechanics one by one but if you are impatient to read through all of that then I suggest watching youtubes guide, especially Reman Paradox (I am unsure if his guides are still relevant though because EU4 change basic mechanics a couple of times across the decade). There's maybe other newer guide but you probably can search on your own.

Play in the most rudimentary way imaginable while constantly checking the wiki until you improve, then play that way or however you want until you find something new to add.

Not when you learn how the game's mechanics actually work (esp. when you move on to MP).

Hell no. They're similar enough to control, but the more systems you learn to use, the more each nation will stand out.
The game is deep, but using everything optimally is difficult, and most people only want to play in Europe, so they think the game is just about blobbing.
