Steam Summer Sale thread: /vst/ edition
What are some good games to buy, any classics, I don't have a lot of games.
Wartales
Battle Brothers
Xenonauts 2
Which one would sate my hunger for XCOM-likes the most? or are all three good?
>>2078341>Which one would sate my hunger for XCOM-likes the most?Xenonauts.
>or are all three good?I consider both Wartales and Battlebrothers to be pretty crappy but people can have different opinions, they are decidedly not very XCOM-like though, it's a different kind of game.
>>2078338Maybe some good RTS's?
>>2078295 (OP)age of empires 2:definitive edition, warhammer 40k: dawn of war (the first game) though they are coming out with a remaster soon so it might be better to wait?, homeworld, company of heroes 2, mindustry, starship troopers: terran command, steel division/WARNO/wargame red dragon, stronghold, army men rts, shadow empire. some classics, some newer ones. just a variety depending on what setting/scale you're looking for.
a non-steam game would be starcraft 1/2 which are free on battlenet.
if i had to pick just a few, age of empires 2/dawn of war/homeworld are classics that give you different settings/scale to see what you like.
>>2078384meant for
>>2078338 whoops.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1105670/The_Last_Spell/
Is this any good? It looks neat
>>2078341Battle brothers is not without its faults but muh RNG isn't one of them despite the cries of filtered shitters. It's the purest form of 'git gud.' If that appeals to you then it's worth picking up.
>>2078390It is good but not like XCOM at all except in a super abstract "beat the world scaling up" way
>>2078387Yeah it's great. Brutally hard as well. Basically you get 3 heroes (can buy up to 6 eventually), game is broken up into daytime where you heal them, buy them shit and build up your base and its defences, then at night, enemies will attack from one of the 4 directions(which increases more each night), fight them off and then repeat. Also banger soundtrack as well.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHMOfw_14_8
I bought Last Train Home and Shadow Gambit. wondering what else
I've to a problem with how these damn sales just bait you into a DLC trap
Jurassic Park is on sale for like 3 bucks but its got all that DLC that while also on discount all rack up to like 55 more dollars
Same with Age of Wonders 4 on sale when its DLC have meager 20% discounts or no discount at all
>>2078536That has become the marketing model for strategy games now I think. It's hard to think of many successful ones that haven't done that.
Lads is Butterlord worth it yet?
>>2078341AS the first guy said, Xenonauts is easily the most XCOM-like of those since it's literally meant to be a spiritual sequel to old school X-Com.
Battle Brothers is fun and challenging but very unstructured and repetitive. You basically just wander about murderhoboing with no real directions or goals beyond what you set for yourself.
Wartales is pretty mid. Compared to BB it does have a better structure with each region having its own storyline, but those stories aren't very good. Also the combat system is kinda shit.
>>2078387I liked it. Basically a mix between tower defense/horde defense and turn-based strategy. High difficulty, loads of build options, and a kickass soundtrack.
>>2078542Depends on what you want out of it. It's a good game but it's never going to be the Warband clone everyone asked for.
>>2078548I just want a shinier warband but with a more in-depth everything: sieges, diplomacy, trade, etc.
>>2078550In that case just forget about it.
>>2078341>Xenonauts 2is a better xcom in every way except the SOVL department.
>>2078542How do you feel about the sengoku jidai? I'd say it's worth it for the Shokuho mod.
>>2078536The jurassic world games are complete enough to be worth it for sub 5 dollarydoos if you like aesthetic park builders. They're no stellaris where you get in on the floor and have $200 of dlc to go just to complete the core experience.
any good tycoon, city builder or transportation management games with deep discounts? GOG is fine too, preferred even.
>>2078295 (OP)>this is how I remember the steam saleThanks, nigga. Already bought Empire at War and seeing what else is good.
Recommend me EU4 DLC. Please?
>>2078536I refuse to play a game if I don't have all the content available to me and i am not going to pay some ridiculous price for it. So in the end i just end up pirating games that have a lot of DLCs. The only acceptable model to me is that as new DLCs get released the older ones get cheaper and cheaper, so that the total cost stays reasonable.
Slitherine discounts are stingy as usual except for the game I spent full price on a month ago which is now 75% off, go figure. Oh well, I still love you Slitherine.
I'll probably get Tlatoani cause I liked the alpha and I can't think of anything else that I wouldn't pirate instead
>>2078569Two point series is a classic and those are already pretty cheap to begin with. The new DLC for TP Museum is only 8 bucks which is fucking insane.
>STILL NO GOTTERDAMMERUNG SALE
I hate Paradox.
>>2078338Ground Control 1 and 2 are currently on sale for supercheap if you're interested in sci-fi boomer RTT/RTS. They have god tier sound design, pretty good gameplay and a huge focus on singleplayer
So I got myself March of the eagles.
I expected 'Hoi but EU' And, to be honest, after abou 30 minutes of play, that's essentially the gist of it. It lacks some serious QOL features though, armies don't lock and can stop a movement on the day it happens. The tactics feature adds a depth that's sorely lacking to EU4 combat in comparaison. If you like tables and ledgers, you'll enjoy March of the eagles. Haven't tried the online feature but it seems to function better than Vicky2s, for what it's worth: It doesn't look like you need Hamachi.
>>2078663>>2078787Just pirate paraslop dlc what is wrong with you
>>2078295 (OP)Can anyone tell me what the differences (other than one being higher fantasy) are between Noble Fates and Going Medieval? They both look pretty cool but i only have funds for one of em
>>2078550Nah, imo BL got a bit too bloated and couldnt handle it's weight
I am working on a Youtube video for the sale and here are some /vst/ games of note.
Nexus - The Jupiter Incident ยฃ0.89
A homeworld-like with customisable ships and weaponry, plus the ability to target modules on enemy ships and even board them.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/6420/Nexus__The_Jupiter_Incident/
The UFO Series ยฃ0.67 for the first 2 and ยฃ0.99 for the last one
These games are a real-time take on the Xcom formula salvaged from the failed xcom remake The Dreamland Chronicles: Freedom Ridge.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/292160/UFO_Aftermath/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/289500/UFO_Aftershock/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/237950/UFO_Afterlight/
Majesty Gold HD ยฃ2.12
Majesty doesn't need any introduction if you haven't already played it. What are you doing on vst?
https://store.steampowered.com/app/25990/Majesty_Gold_HD/
Heroes of Annihilated Empires ยฃ1.44
An RTS-RPG hybrid with a massive scale having thousands of units in each level is standard and with heroes who kill hundreds in seconds it's a pretty grand affair.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4800/Heroes_of_Annihilated_Empires/
Halcyon 6: Starbase Commander ยฃ2.19
This game attempts to blend lots of strategy games into a sort of 4x-xcom-star-control-like. Honestly, it does quite a good job of it and the fact that you can exterminate all the aliens is a plus.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/651660/Halcyon_6_Starbase_Commander_LIGHTSPEED_EDITION/
This became to long so I had to cut it, I have loads more games to recommend, so just ask if you want more.
>>2078787I feel you, brother.
I have most HoI IV DLC and these fags can't be bother to really discount them.
>>2078838Also curious to see if anyone has played Noble Fates, the amount of shit they've added with diplomacy and other kingdoms since I had them on my radar looks pretty impressive. Just wish the character models didn't look like such ass.
Going Medieval on the other hand seems a lot more narrowly focused, and they still don't even have marriage or children so what's the point. Either way for both games though, I wouldn't buy until they're out of EA
I'm a Polish zoomer, I don't know how it is in the West but here it used to (no idea if it's still the case) be the case that in some general goods stores you could get some boxed version video games. My mom kept buying me a game every so often, most were some logical point and clicks which I didn't find interesting but sometimes she unknowingly got me some bangers like Star Wars: Empire at War and Majesty. That Majesty box came with both 1 and 2 with all DLC. I had a lot of fun with those two, I think I couldn't even speak English back then kek. And I would never have thought that both of these games are god tier niche picks.
Thanks for reading my blog
>>2078979>zoomer>boxed vidyaHow old are you exactly?
When I picture Zoomers I imagine tiktok teens.
>>2078985Fun fact. Older zoomers are in their early 30's now.
>>2078989>Researchers and popular media use the mid-to-late 1990s as starting birth yearssybau chat is this cap fr
>>207898523, my first phone was some old Nokia, idk if it was the famous 3310. I played Snake on it a few times. Back then when I was going to school it was normal for kids not to have phones at all, parents here used to give their kids a phone once they get older. At some point I got a touch Phone (I think it's what it's called in English, you know the one where you can press buttons directly on screen, not on the numpad) and got a cracked Settlers on it. I remember sitting down on some bench during a break and some older kids would sit next to me and watch me play, as back then such phones were rare-ish. Well, I also live in the countryside, maybe it was different in the cities
>>2078995>At some point I got a touch Phone (I think it's what it's called in English, you know the one where you can press buttons directly on screen, not on the numpad)We'd either call it a smartphone or a touch screen.
It's funny, your experience is pretty much identical to mine but I was born in the West 5 years earlier.
>>2078985Third world countries usually have different generational cultures than the ones we're used to in the West.
>>2078995I've been hearing for over a decade now how rapidly Poland is modernizing but then see shit like this. I guess it do be different in rural Poland
>>2079002I thought international supply chains of boxed video games ended with the advent of digital games. He must have just gone them on the cusp before they died out.
>>2079004well that phone situation I've describes was like, what, 15 years ago? I can tell you for certain that nowadays it's different, the younger generations are tiktok zombies just like in the West
>>2079002In the past there was always a bit of a delay in trends or price acted as a barrier to widespread adoption. Also there was a lot of catch up where some outdated things we never got got introduced simultaneously with the current ones so it ended with a weird anachronistic tech level resulting in a pretty specific generational experience. The gap got shorter over time. Nowadays when everyone is online the generations are mostly indistinguishable I think.
>>2079009I think I got first game that required steam in 2010, I continued to buy some physical releases because they still got preferential prices (and steam didn't have PLN yet) but if they even contained a disc it rapidly became just a steam installer. Weirdly I have a 3K total war physical release even though at that point I haven't even had a disc drive for years and moved to digital distribution entirely.
Maybe bargain bins existed for longer, I'm older than zoomeranon so I was sort of past it at that point or good humble bundles when they were still good. He seems like a late adopter even by poland standards.
Also in some sense "digital distribution" was a thing much longer, it's just that nobody paid for torrenting. Widespread piracy probably delayed adoption of steam to an extent.
Genuinely never played a Civilization game. Which one should I get? I don't care about graphics, give me the one with the best gameplay
>>2079142Civ4 is supposed to be the best but I never played it
5 is ok but only with vox populi mod
I tried 6 too but it felt like a mobile game for retards so I deleted it
On the same topic of Civ as the anon above.
Since Civ 7 shat itself to death, how are the other Civ likes? are any of them worth or is nothing but trash and should just go back to older Civs?
>>2079142Alpha Centauri.
>with the best gameplayThey all suck equally, just for different reasons.
Alpha Centurai at least as a good setting and memorable writing.
>>2079142I think most people would say 4. Or just play whatever is current-1. I played some of the games, but personally I think civ is just not very good and all takes on the whole genre suck for various reasons.
>>2078800A gorillion years ago i tried the ground control 2 demo and discovered if i just got a critical mass of mobile artillery i could just grind every ground unit to dust with huge arcing volleys of artillery and because i outranged non-artillery units and could just drive away i could do that with complete impunity
was really amusing to me at the time
>>2079142I think 6 is far better than 5.
>>2079142If you're not sure how much time and energy you're willing to invest, Civ V will give you the most fun right away.
https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/575/Sid_Meiers_Civilization_V_Complete/
If you're willing to invest a lot of time and energy, Civ IV will give you a greater challenge and greater rewards later on, but it'll be less fun at first.
https://store.steampowered.com/sub/4323/
Always get the Complete edition for IV and V, and get Platinum if you get VI. Anthology Edition is an unnecessary upgrade.
>>2078341Xenonauts is the closest one to XCOM, other three are only same in the turn based aspect.
That being said, i would recommend you to pick up Battle Brothers and ditch Wartales entirely. like other anon said, while Wartales try to distance itself from BB by making it a more narrative focused game, it fails in both aspect(combat+story) spectacularly, i do like the party and supply management in Wartales much more than BB tho, quite a shame it is wasted on a mediocre game, subpar even
>>2079142Well 2 has the best gameplay. I'd recommend 6 after that.
>>2079156Old World is worth checking out, especially now after years of constant updates. It's by the lead dev who did Civ 4, and the AI is actually competent at combat unlike all civs after 4
>>2078995I'm almost the same age as you (22) but i'm from Russia and i had a similar experience. First phone was an old nokia like 3310, played snake of course. A couple years later i got a bit more advanced phone but still without a touchscreen, i remember playing old java games on it and exchanging funny videos and porn with my classmates through bluetooth. I got a smartphone much later. All this talk about zoomers who had iphones and ipads from age 3 is something from the US or Western Europe, at least in relation to my generation.
Any opinion on Timberborn?
>>2079287It's fun, beavers are cute and the vertical building is cool.
>>2079156Old world is good, can't really praise any of the others. Unless you wanna go back as far as endless legend 1, that's fun.
>>2078926Yeah thinking the same thing, they both still seem to need cooking despite the cool building
>>2078571>>2078764These look interesting, but I can't deal with that cartoony art style and look in general. It screams slop to me. Especially Good Company bleeds Corporate Memphis.
>>2079208>Civ 5 Complete Edition>Not available in my countryFuck the fuckin fuckers. Civ 4 it is then
I'm gonna shill some tacticool stuff.
Korean take on nuXCOM, the mastery board is one of the best character development system I've seen:

Brutal action points based turn based tactics / roguelike hybrid with modular drones:

Hidden gem of a combat focused roguelike, this one more classical:

Thinking about picking up a Dominions game, but not sure whether to get 5 or 6, they look pretty much the same. Is there any reason to spend 3x as much for 6 over 5?
>>2079914Seconding Troubleshooter.
>>2079927Each iteration of Dominions greatly improves over the previous one. Pick up an older version if you're unsure if you're going to like it or not, the singleplayer is an enjoyable sandbox but this is mainly a MP game and everyone is playing the latest one
>>2079927Each game in the series improves on the last.
Also the majority of the multiplayer community is going to be on the most recent one.
>>2078387Its good, as a strategy RPG it does some unique things and the setting is a refreshing take on zombie apocalypse and the soundtrack is really good
I've never played XCOM, I know it's a classic strategy game and it's pretty cheap on the sale rn.
Obviously asking whether it's good on here is redundant, but do you guys recommend to get the Ultimate Collection or just XCOM 2?
>>2080414Play the second game.
The first Nu-Xcom was dissapointing.
>>2080414Play the first game, Enemy Within.
The second nu-XCOM was disappointing.
>but visuals2012 graphics still look fine.
>but map fatigueMaps may have more variety in 2, but they have more identity in 1.
>but gameplay mechanicsThe only improvement 2 brought is fixing ammo reloads, and you can just add that in a mod.
Enemy Within is more fun to play than XCOM 2 because Enemy Within has a better story and better atmosphere.
Anyone got recs for good base builder games with vertical building (that's not DF or Timberborn)? Preferably something that plays like Dungeon Keeper. I've been keeping an eye on Evil Genius 2, but idk if it's decent compared to the original
what wargames do you guys like & can recommend? I really really got into Shadow Empire and that has been the first wargame I've played - basically something that's turn based and where logistics & supply are important. something actually historical would be good, I'd like to learn about the battles and then play them out. Right now I'm looking at Decisive Campaigns Ardennes but I'm worried that might be too similar to Shadow Empire (since it's by the same dev). Unity of Command I & II look good as well and seem like a good entry into the genre
>>2081087Advanced Tactics Gold is the dev's previous game. Think Shadow Empire but strips all settlement management and focus entirely on war and logistics, and it's WW2 themed. Might interest you
>>2078536>DLC trapThe answer is cream api
>>2079142Civ 2
SMAC
Master of Orion 2
>>2079914Stop shilling that gook slop
>>2078565Does it let me conquer Japan with rare but highly effective gaijin mercenaries like in Gekonewer?
>>2081135There are gaijin mercenaries, but they're pretty rare. I also found a gaijin companion.
>>2079597sadly you're right but I like Good Company because it's the only one that really reminds me of the stuff from TTD roots
>>2078550well, sieges got better at least...
>>2078663This is a weak EU4 sale desu
Just wait for a giga sale where you can get all the DLC for around $40-60. It happened twice on Humble bundle and once during an anniversary event on steam, there might be another one upcoming soon around EU5's release.
Lions of the North and Empire are both solid if you have the basics down though.
>>2078979About sums up my experience too, I guess they handed out those Nokias to everybody kek. My dad was kind of a gamer though, so the stuff I played were always classics like Stronghold and Empire Earth. I remember how devastated I was when I found out that World of Warcraft exists and that there's not going to be a Warcraft 4.
Born in 1999 Poland and currently 26 years old, I guess I'm technically not a zoomer though.
>>2081087unity of command is hardly a war game, it's a puzzle game more so than any other hex game.
>>2079156Age of Wonders 4 might scratch that 4x itch if you are into fantasy.
Just going to buy Monster Train 2, it is probably not going to get any better sales than now for a while
>>2078338Alpha Centauri is an all-time great and dirt cheap at the minute
>>2078387it's really good and way less grindy than it used to be
bit of a timesink but I'm saying that from a position of no fucking free time, and I still do highly recommend it
>>2081418how about panzer corps 2? and regardless UoC still looks neat.
>>2078295 (OP)Any good deals for games with a workshop?
>>2078838>>2078926NF: Rimworld but wacky and 3D and not serious in the slightest, felt like streamer bait and was too clunky, didn't last an hour, yet didn't refund because the potential is there.
GM: Rimworld but medieval and 3D, with water simulation and a bit of mod support. Played for a couple hours, only stopped because I also bought Songs of Syx at the time.
If budget is an issue, I'd say GM, check each game's update history thoughbeit.
>>2081733The Battlezone games (98 and combat commander) are on sale for pretty cheap. They both have workshop support and the oldschool kind of autistic modding communities where they occasionally release total conversions that are larger than the base game.
>>2078663Anything that's on the required DLC list for Anbennar.
>>2079156I like Zephon. Its very SMAC inspired and doesn't have the 40k paint job of Gladius, the studio's previous game.
Picked up Suzerain and Divinity original sin 2. Was thinking of Xenonauts but xcom EU/EW rng is pissing me off atm. Any other crpg recommendations? Or turn based tactics? Thanks niggers
>>2082498JA2 is the goat, JA3 if you're tired of it and want something fresher. Also this post:
>>2079914
>>2082498Battle Brothers, but you've probably already played it.
>>2079142Civ 2 which then leads into Alpha Centauri, both have the same classic but micro-intensive gameplay that's been polished up from Civ 1 and which put the series on the map
Civ 4 is the peak of iteration in the classic series, it's overall the better game but also has much more of a learning curve
The series went a different direction from there and has been a mixed bag since. Civ 6 is nice to play through casually once or twice.
>>2082537Just finished ja3 shit was kino, definitely interested in ja2 is jt better with 1.13 or stracciatella mod?
>>2082782I'd recommend starting with stracciatella, the game holds up remarkably well. You can play with 1.13 after you complete if you want more complexity and / or getting your balls busted.
Any good 4x recs for a beginner? I was looking at Stellaris but it seems the game has gone though like 15 iterations or some shit.
>>2078854isn't the steam version of majesty totally fucked?
Any opinions on pic related?
I really love Shadow Empire and that o an 4x mode based in WWII sounds like a dream to me. But from the gameplay I have seen it looks even jankier than Shadow Empire, and Shadow Empire is already incredibly janky.
>>2082889Works on my machine
>>2082940It's Shadow Empire without settlement management, it's pure war and logistics. Back when I played it, it was VERY heavy on micromanagement, you have to do everything one at a time without any possibilities to do stuff in bulk (like moving or assign TOE to multiple units at a time). There was a recent update that calims to alleviate this but I haven't checked it. I do like that it's essentially a wargame with 4x elements, I enjoyed my time with it
>>2082849Civ V is the most beginner-friendly Civ.
https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/575/Sid_Meiers_Civilization_V_Complete/
But if you want to try something really really beginner-friendly then try out Polytopia on your phone. (Singeplayer is free, multiplayer costs money.)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.com.midjiwan.polytopia
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/the-battle-of-polytopia/id1006393168
>>2082889Runs fine for me, fucked in what way?
Has anyone played this game? Reading the reviews it seems to be an even jankier WW1 version of Men of War 1. I was never a big fan of the stealth missions in the MoW games but I'm tempted to grab this just for the setting
>>2078338In terms of the classics that are on Steam;
Dawn of War: Soulstorm (remaster coming soon though)
Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition
Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance
Company of Heroes 1 complete
Command and Conquer collection
I would also recommend Blitzkrieg 1 & 2, Majesty 1 Gold, Men of War: Assault Squad 2 and Rise of Nations.
>>2078854Heroes of Annihilated Empires looks cool, did you have issues like some of the reviewers?
>>2079142For me it's Civilization 4 and then Alpha Centurai in 2nd place. Civilization 5 is more popular in general though because it's got a much more gentle learning curve.
>>2082889I didn't have any issues running it on Windows 10 to be honest
>>2083155The only issue I had with Heroes of Annihilated Empires was the cutscene not showing up between missions, but that's a minor issue. I definitely didn't experience crashes from having too many units on screen or save corruption and I did a full playthrough of the game on Windows 11. There is a demo on Steam if you want to try it out for yourself, but I did see some people saying the demo was broken. You can always pirate the game if you want to try it with no risks.
>>2078295 (OP)>Summer sales>Every hoi4 dlc i own is on sale>the only dlc i want (Gotterdammerung) isn' t on sale because paradox greed>only dlc on sale i don't own is shityard of empiresSummer sale is kill
How is Second Front?
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1148490/Second_Front/
>>2078387w-we're supposed to lose at the first boss right?
>>2083178Is there any fix to the cutscenes? I'd love to see the jank in context.
>>2083500literally this.
I quit hoi4 now
speaking of HOI4 how is Darkest Hour - Hearts of Iron 2?
>>2084402Unfortunately, not that I have found, but said cutsense just happens at the start of every level and someone has made a handy guide on steam which lists all the cusense and the order to watch them in.
Guys I have no idea how total warhammer games work, what do I actually get if I buy warhammer 2? Just the New World map and the well campaign? Can I not play as the Empire for example?
Apparently all 3 games combine into 1 somehow.
>>2085002>Just the New World map and the well campaign? Can I not play as the Empire for example?yes, base Warhammer 2 only gives you helves, delves, skaven and lizardmen. To play welves or Tomb Kings you need DLC, and to play Empire, dwarves, greenskins or chaos you need to own Warhammer 1. Previous games are effectively DLC for the later games
>>2084836Kinda shit, it was only kept alive by the story mods but as soon as HOI4 got popular everyone jumped ship.
>>2085002>Buy TW1>Get access to the base game races (Empire, Dwarves, Greenskins, Vampire Counts) in TW2/TW3>Obviously you can just play TW1 which has it's own campaign and custom battles>Buy TW1 DLC (e.g. Norsca)>It works in TW1/TW2/TW3Basically they've gone ahead and made it so that every piece of content works with the games released after it, if that makes sense. So DLC for TW2 won't work with TW1 but will work with TW3.
As such I'd probably just grab TW3 and then a DLC that includes at least one lord for whatever faction you want. Check the free DLC for each game before buying too, as there are a few lords that are free and these will let you play as that faction. For example Bretonnia is entirely free for TW1 and will work in TW1/TW2/TW3, while the free Thorek Ironbrow legendary lord for TW2 will let you play as the Dwarves in TW2/TW3 even if you don't own TW1*
*I'm pretty sure about this but not 100% sure
Also has anyone here played Imperial Glory? I'm looking at some older RTS games to pick up
Buy Original War for JUST TWO BUCKS and play the best RTS campaign in existence
You can join the small multiplayer community too
WARNO, Regiments, or Broken Arrow if you want to do mainly singleplayer compstomps?
>>2085006>>2085033Man that sucks, I wanted to play on the old world map but I heard warhammer 2 is a more polished game. I'm not buying both 1 and 2.

>>2078341>Which one would sate my hunger for XCOM-likes the most? or are all three good?cyber knight: flashpoint. sims 2 porn mod looking graphics for the characters but otherwise very good game
>>2078663just torrent eu4 it is not worth paying for. Game completely sucks late game.
>>2085033>Imperial GloryIt is like the TEMU version of Napoleon Total War, for the price you would be better off buying the latter, specially now that it is 75% off. If you are still curious about the gameplay, you could buy them both I suppose, as their price is like 5 bucks total.
>>2085033>Thorek Ironbrow legendary lord for TW2 will let you play as the Dwarves in TW2/TW3 even if you don't own TW1*>*I'm pretty sure about this but not 100% sureUnfortunately not, you can't have just the free lord. To unlock a faction you have to own some paid content related to it, but I think you can, say, buy malakai and than you can play him or thorek.
I want to play a citybuilder, should I breakdown and grab City:Skylines, or is there a better option out there?
pax nova
tech supremacy dlc
Oh and zephon. Those were the two things I bought
>>2078696I bought age of wonders 4 and primal fury and still just play my pirates version with all the dlcs.
Captcha: KKKMS
>>2078706Is it master of magic remake? I pirated that one too kek
>>2078854You are neglecting the fact that nexus the Jupiter incident is a horror game.
Actually probably the only horror RTS and it pulls it off great

Trust the one that got trips I guess.
>>2081115Is moo2 really a civ-like?
>>2082084Not him but I'm a Big bz98/bzII fan... Any recommended mods? I never tried any and don't know where to begin. I have thoroughly enjoyed all original campaigns multiple times
>>2082849Master of Orion 1, 2, or Stars in Shadow
Civilization 5
Maybe even humankind if you can tolerate the writing
Gladius if you just want combat
>>2085140Extremely based
Also try the mods that add the Arab campaign back in
>>2085859Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh no that's it.
Unless you wanna just play SimCity 4 with mods.
>>2086645>add the Arab campaign back in80% of it is just fanfiction. It also introduces too many stupid gimmicks when compared to the vanilla campaigns.
Oh right, it also doesn't have voice acting. At all.
>>2081103Ive heard that for planet zoo it got nuked or doesnt work anymore, keep seeing that on reddit. But reddit lies about tbis sort of thing, whats the truth?
>>2078295 (OP)Is it worth getting EU4 if people are saying 5 is coming out in 4-8 months?
>>2086871it's 10 bucks for the base game + a 1 month subscription to the DLC shit, not a bad price if you want to give it a shot
>>2086871It's gonna be a different game.
>>2086871No, torrent it. EU4 endgame is horrible.
>>2078295 (OP)I bought some DLCs for Field of Glory 2 on impulse, they're basically reskins, but I'm having fun. Debating whether Medieval is worth getting in the future.
>>2078387Lowkey hate games that force you to lose to progress
>>2086996Fanatical has done multiple Slitherine bundles where you can get all of the Field of Glory series and all the DLC for some insanely low amount, like 2 bucks a game or something. So keep an eye out in case they do that again, set your sales tracker to notify when games you're tracking are included in bundles
>>2086996Check out Sengoku Jidai, Pike and Shot, and Battle Academy 1/2 if you want more games in that game engine and gameplay style.
>>2083155>jankier WW1 version of Men of War 1It's a mod in drag. Hell, it has less content than some WW1 MoW mods. Honestly the only thing I half remember about it is that it had cavalry that sort of worked.
How's Bannerlord? Is it worth it for the mods?
>>2088160It's alright. It has problems and warband is still better in most ways but the mods are pretty good.
>>2087861Oh. Oh well, I'll keep that in mind for future.
>>2088104I will, though I heard games on the older engine are somewhat janky, but details of that elude me.
>>2086640I'm not familiar with BZ98 mods, but Fleshstorm and Forgotten Enemies are the two best BZ2 mods imo. I also enjoyed the incorrectly titled "Lost missions" mod, but it's pretty short.
This or Sins of Solar Empire 2? And other space games? Looking for something extra comfy
>>2088923Shit meant Endless Space 2
>>2088160It's not a clear upgrade like M&B --> Warband, but I'd call it a competent game. I wouldn't buy it if good multiplayer is what you're after.
Is Stellaris competent enough in its base state without docs? Is the starting pack worth it? What are the essential dlcs?
>>2084205The art style is actually kinda nice but it's EXTREMELY simple, the AI is 'smart' but only on the defensive, because even a brain dead moron can figure out 'the mg and anti tank gun waiting for the enemy to show up is a good idea'

Almost perfect civ aesthetics.

Maybe Dungeons 4?
>>2089881cut hydroneer, it sucks

>>2089915>tfw forgot what i remembered
>>2089888In my opinion it was tedious as fuck. If you wanna spend 2-5 hours or maybe more shoveling dirt into a bucket then slowly amalgamating the pebbles you find into saleable items and then maybe getting enough money to maybe automate the process at a basic level, go ahead. To me it just wasn't interesting enough and required far too much grind to get to any kind of automation. If you like shoveling dirt and swishing water go for it.
I refunded it long before any automation was happening.
>>2089928I'll admit i feel a bit more susceptible to skinner box type grindy shit in games than most people
But for instance, surely it cant take that long to dig up enough resources to put up a drill thing and some pipes like in the store page?
Then again i do see the main negative review thats essentially pissed that the automation isn't easy to automate
>>2089867I agree.
4 is technically the best mechanically but the early 3d has aged much worse than 3's 2d.
Ended up picking up spice wars, the first two dlcs for distant worlds 2 and the ostranauts/neoscav combo.
>>2089972In less than 2 hours(refund time) I was able to dig a hole maybe 1/3 the size of that. The voxel? terrain deformation was very clunky and unless I missed something you can't just destroy the dirt, so every shovelful had to be dissolved in a bucket. I may have done it wrong, dunno.
I had maybe half that much pipe and only the first machine type, which I couldn't get to work properly because of the way they d water flow mechanics. I think you do need an actual hole to have water drop onto it to work and my hole wasn't big enough.
I would guess that setup would take at least 3 hours to reach, and I wasn't just afking it, I was really grinding trying to get to somewhere fun before 2 hours were up. I'm sure it can be fun, I just didn't have any personally. I have played and loved factorio, dyson sphere and captain of industry for brief reference(none is really like hydroneer, but anyway) and if someone asked if I would rather play minecraft with a complex industrial mod or hydroneer I would pick minecraft(I haven't played minecraft in a decade).
It's really cheap, maybe you'll enjoy it, it just rubbed me the wrong way because it has a neat idea but an incredibly tedious start.
>>2086871>Is it worth getting EU4 if people are saying 5 is coming out in 4-8 months? It was worth it like ten years ago
There's just too much bloat. Game really soured me on their DLC policy.
Thoughts on Sea Power?
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1286220/Sea_Power__Naval_Combat_in_the_Missile_Age/
I've developed an interest for naval battles and navies in general lately, even though I never played any naval focused strategy game.
>>2090143Lot of content and scenarios. The AI is still meh so you have to babysit your units and micro a lot for the optimal outcome. The game is challenging only if you are technologically or numbers-wise heavily outnumbered. Still, it's pretty as hell and gets updated.
>>2086996>>2088221looks like you just got lucky anon, Slitherine is giving the FoG Medieval base game away for free on steam right now as part of their 25th anniversary
>>2090290They're also giving away Battlestar Galactica Deadlock and Fantasy General II

Did anyone play/pick up Cataclismo? It looks like a jank Stronghold clone, so I was interested.
