Have you been playing the greatest genre in gaming recently?

I've been playing Thronefall. It's fun and nice to look at, but some of the elements of the game feel very limiting.

The most "pure" TD game I've played recently was Tower Dominion. It's pretty good, though it does still have a few annoying bugs.

Aside from that I've also played ORX which is pretty much what you get if you mix Carcassonne with Tower Defense. I kinda suck at it though, boss enemies fuck my shit up.

Finally I've played 9 Kings, which isn't really a TD game I guess though it does have some TD elements. It's mostly about finding tower/unit synergies to exploit and breaking the game before it breaks you.

Is that pic endless I assume? My main gripe with tower dominion is you don't really get enough towers to make more than one or two stacked chokepoints in a normal game. Good game though.

Oh yeah, I've been watching ORX forever, but steam reviews keeps saying the devs add too much extra half-baked stuff or that the game crashes a lot. Any opinion on this?

Yeah it's endless. You can see it's wave 66 of 35 so that's beyond the normal game. Endless really requires you to play differently because after you reach the "end" of the game the enemy HP scaling goes out of control.

Speaking of out of control scaling, picture related. 9 Kings is a very silly game.

It's never crashed on me so I can't say much about that. It's not very well optimized for lategame hordes but at least for me that just slows the game down, it doesn't actually crash the game. The slowdown is definitely annoying though, especially since there's pretty much zero downtime during those gigahordes which can cover the entire screen, so actually building anything at that point becomes a pain in the ass. As for the half-baked stuff I do feel they're spending too much time on things that aren't essential to the game. I wouldn't call it half-baked but if they just focused on getting the core game features and optimization done first it could've been out of early access a long time ago.
