I've gotten really into Dune recently, which led me to discover there are Dune RTS games besides the original Dune II.

It's a shame that Emperor is in copyright hell. Give me a GoG or Steam version of that with mod support and I'd be so happy. It's such a chore to get games of that era to work on modern hardware. Music fucking slaps btw.

Play OpenRA or rather open dune2k
it's honestly the best iteration of the game with fun shit like unit veterancy and unit queueing included. The original had you click on a bike every 5 seconds like a madman and some people online probably on /vst/ too believe it was part of the skill expression

no, I mean just OpenRA, it comes with Red Alert, C&C Tiberian Dawn and Dune 2000
the Gruntmods version is the original Dune 2000 but with modern compatibility fixes and some other QoL bells and whistles, but no unit veterancy and other heavy QoL improvements from OpenRA

OpenR-ACK!, doesn't even have campaigns fully implemented and the entire development process is focused solely on balance patches for Red Alert part because of the competitive community which consists of 2.5 inbreeds and 3 schmuck streamer types. Tiberian Sun part has been in development hell for over a decade now and the only people pushing OpenRA as a game engine and modding platform are mod developers, unless said mods get coopted and killed by beforementioned schmuck streamer types (say hello to Crystalized Doom and Shattered Paradise, and say thank you Ganon for being proof that soviets should have killed and raped every g*rm when they still had a chance).

There's bajillion custom hacks or whatever of both Dune II and Dune 2000 on the web, old Dune games community is well organized and separated from the community of the other games made by Westwood, i am sure you can just download community patched Dune 2000 from the same forum that was posted above
