This is how I'm thinking about this.

• Stormgate is exiting early access for business reasons. Perhaps a contractual deadline or an attempt to increase revenue.

• Exiting early access means more eyes on the game and the campaign, which is now complete, is their strongest revenue generator and most-desired mode, so it's getting the spotlight.

• This is a soft launch, with the champagne and fireworks coming later with 1.0 once Team Mayhem, Co-Op and the Editor have received further updates.

Frost Giant probably wants to make an impression with their end of early access update, so I'm excited to see what else we're getting. New units? Up-to-date co-op?

The game has a strong foundation, strong team, and passionate supporters. I would be surprised if that isn't enough to carry the work they've done over the past 5 years to the finish line.

I don't see anything to gain from worrying. We don't know enough about the business side of things. We know that Frost Giant is aiming to succeed. All we can do is enjoy the game!

Early access and soft launch mean jackshit nowadays, Anon.
Everyone vaguely interested in RTS already know about it and might even have tried it.
It has already launched, wasn't a good game AT ALL when doing so.

Early access isn't the "get out of jail free" card studio still think it is. It's a release, period.
People will fully judge the game on your early access, and the amount that will give a shit about any improvement afterward is ridiculous low.
Stormgate fucked itself, and doesn't have anywhere near the time nor budget to change enough and become a game worth checking twice for the majority of the potential playerbase.

Let this be a lesson for devs: don't treat your early access as a trashcan for shit and giggle.

They're going to finish building the last 10-15% of the game based on the merit of the technology, innovation and bricks already laid, whether the last stretch comes from revenue, loans, investments or by teaming up with a publisher.

Once the game is at 1.0 we'll see articles from gaming news organizations across the internet. Swaths of RTS streamers will engage with the game - Artosis, Tasteless, WinterGaming, PiG, GGG, Back2Warcraft and many more will show the game, finally completed, to hundreds of thousands of viewers on stream and YouTube videos.

1.0 will be a huge moment for the game even though it's not directly from Early Access.

If people love playing the completed game, that's what will matter most at that point.

If they had gone to 1.0 instead of 0.6, I wouldn't be so cheery.

Besides, we don't know what's coming in 0.6 yet. Maybe they've been planning to add a few units to each faction for this update. That and bringing co-op up-to-date could do much for engagement at a time when the game gets extra attention.

>former Blizzard employees

I will never fall for this shit again after Crowfall and Camelot Unchained. They had so many years to improve and still shoveled out the same garbage a decade later while still managing to fail despite better graphics. If your game hadn't gone to shit you would still be working at it. Unless they astroturf the release by burning Blizzard at the cross in effigy the game is doomed.

Just pretend everyone hates Blizzard, no one knows what high fantasy Warcraft is let alone you as a good corporate drone, and make a good game. These game developers think their resumes equate to wishlists and pre orders at this point it is cringe now especially saying you helped with WoW. If you wanted to make a great game you would be hiding the fact you worked at Blizzard and distancing your project from the rip off jobs Warcraft did over the years.

>I was the guy who destroyed Reforged and stole content from The Burning Crusade onward
Has it ever dawned on you that maybe you should not mention Blizzard at this point?

I would like to personally thank Jason "Maldavius Figtree" Hall also known as PiRat Roachware aka Loki who worked at Blizzard by the way and he's the very first second-generation Blizzard nepo-baby hire, for the new hatewave towards Blizzard, maybe after he kills himself or gets exposed as a greasy pedophile which he most likely is on top of being zoophile, status of a Blizzard employee will forever be seen as a mark of shame.

You can take man out of Blizzard
But not the breast milk out of man

I really don't get into e celeb drama. Don't brag about working for Blizzard when they've admitted through action bots are needed to keep the game alive.

I'm quoting from a quick google search...

given how WoW's entire development history has basically been "rip off what everquest was doing 10 years ago but make it simpler and more casual friendly" i feel pretty confident in saying this will likely end up being like EQ's mercenary system they implemented back in 2008, but either more kid-friendly and not as good, or overdone in the direction of catering to casual players.

in EQ mercenaries are AI bots that take the place of a party member, can be a tank/melee/ranged/healer, and are generally not particularly great at any of it.
i'd predict a WoW AI bot to be roughly comparable to a dunce player that is 20 item levels or more below the average - good enough to more or less inch by in the easiest of content, good enough to be a backup in a partial group, but nowhere near even an incompetent player who's playing the least bit of attention.

I've never played EQ, but I've seen other games require bots to stay alive. And since multi boxing is likely bannable offense still there's no way around not including bots. It's been this way since vanilla, the game becomes unplayable unless other players are present willing to do the same objectives. Bad actors or absentee's take the game into a fail state.

DOAC and Camelot Unchained had useless empty areas, Crowfall got character movement down but still had no bots and pointlessly empty areas. Which breaks my heart because I loved being a minotaur or centaur.

When you say "I worked at Blizzard!" all I hear is "I ruined Reforged because stealing from others always made up for my lack of understanding what makes a game great!"

I'm running out of space to rant, so I'll just say make a good game. I loved FONV but I'm not going to play the space games just because Tim Cain and Leonard Bowarsky were involved.

This might be the gayest shit I’ve ever read. Blizzard died when Activision bought them out. All the start up guys are enjoying life with a lot of money and let their IP’s die. They don’t have passion anymore they have money and families. StarCraft 2 will not be dethroned by a new IP. RTS genre is dead with MOBA taking over. Most games are on phones now. Times have evolved and we’re all too old to give a fuck and just want to play our comfy games like Red Alert, X-Com, StarCraft, Civ III and IV, AoE, SNES SimCity and a handful of other games. Go back into retirement and let the new kids have a chance and stop wasting everyone’s time, including your own.

it's just a knockoff sc2 in the end, and sc2 is still around, so you might as well play that
the only exciting new RTS these days is DORF, and just for its art. everything else is aggressively mid
