in a game about mana it gives you a lot of mana

It depends on how you use mana. My 300 white mana is worth more than 400 African mana

innovative wastes efficiency to speed up getting something you can get anyway, wasted opportunity
naval/maritime, espionage, religious on the other hand open up expansion

also not taking france pu early as england forces you into a colonial game where rushing trade mega griefs you, trade idea rush only works in persia or southern/western india
