Then I tried Burmese. Why didn't they give this civ any traits or bonuses? Like..I get +2/2 on elephants? Really? The infantry bonus is among the worst. Slavs, Armenians and Bulgarians are straight up better and tons have better upsides like Malians or Teutons. Why would I pick Burmese?

How does AoE2 skill translates into 4? I am playing AoE2 right now because my potato pc can't handle 4. I am kinda having fun and after around 45hs I am managing to beat extreme AI. But I feel like I will not enjoy sweaty shit like quick walling or even walling your base in general if I play against people. I dislike how you have to quickly wall your base in feudal WHILE at the same time having to produce your first few military units to attack and then go back and fort between you walling and attacking assuming the enemy is not rushing your base at the same time too.
Also, it seems that in AoE4 the economy macro is way more streamlined. Like, in imperial a pro AoE2 has to switch constantly from army to base to fix his vills and make sure there are no holes in the wall, but in AoE4 you can mostly concentrate only on the army

Less "micro tricks" like quick walling but you'll have to learn the unique gimmick of every faction. The economy isn't really "streamlined", it's more that a bunch of civs have ways to make gold in the late game so you don't always have to fight tooth and nail for gold veins, but you should still move your villagers to deer, berries, fresh woodlines and gold/stone veins as long as you have the map control to do so safely. And if you can't get out on the map you still need to make farms, (maybe) traders and micro monks to get relics.

Casual matches in AoEIV are even easier because sometimes you'll be matched against console players and those guys take like 10 seconds to react to a raid.

With CaptureAge on board for Chronicles, you'll see a lot of Battle for Greece scenarios balanced around 200 units tops as well.
Higher population limit caps have existed in all versions in some manner, be it official or by UserPatch, but 200 is still more or less the gold standard, rarely raised or lowered.

I'm getting back into age of empires 2 after about 5 years.
A lot of noticeably new stuff, some of it negative.
For example, this yellow shit running across the ground.
It surrounds every town center that I run into, even the first one I build
How the FUCK do I remove this horrible effect? It keeps spoiling the location of enemy TCs without me putting in the full effort to find them, and I really don't like that.
I could not find the option to switch it off anywhere in the options or game creator.

whats the best civ to play if im playing a 4v4 game and i need to be able to help on 2 land fronts that are separated far apart and might need navy as well? i play compstomps with my friend, but he never builds enough military buildings quick enough and sometimes the AI on my team sucks forcing me to split my forces/attention.

Automating everything out of convenience doesn't leave much of a game left, and something like the global queue feature is especially something I've found useful in this particular context with villagers and wish more games in the genre had it. On the other hand, in some cases it might not be fully desirable to have automated TCs in a similar way to some players not auto-reseeding farms.

I think the most laming I've done is using a scout to steal an elephant on haboob and maybe some goats if I'm lucky. That's still in plus any laming of hunting by just shooting it and letting it rot.

Let's remove the retarded "queue one villager every 20 seconds" ritual by giving a _toggleable_ autoqueue and introduce new replacement rituals to keep the same level of attention required.
It doesn't even have to be fighting micro or MOBA abilities. You mentioned scouting. There's way more thought that goes into scouting, so add more more possibilities, more interaction with the opponent there, for example. Or add more economic rituals. Instead of 1, give me 5 kinds of villagers I build from every 20 seconds. Or it could just be about making informed decisions on where to place the villagers more frequently. Make me protect them, move them around and do stuff more frequently.
Do many of these things and it'll be just as stressful but less mindless.
There's so many areas where you could make micro decisions that actually matter, why only do the mindless micro decisions because a game designer thought 30 years ago that that's the best?
