Just realized the lokk avenger armor is based on fakk 2
Good weapon to capture stargod operatives with? Every time I shoot, stab or even sneeze at them, it's a crapshoot of if it'll do nothing, stun them or vaporize them. Ironically, the novices and guardians are easier to capture, because they can take more punishment.
And yeah, I've tried just punching them but these fuckers have such a high evasion rate, it's insane.
>>2095633ranged electric damage works fine, 100% damage to blue shields too
think tazogun, zapper, tesla coil, electric lasso, reticulan electrogun these all work fine
>>2095633Neural whip works best for me.
>>2095633Neural whips are my standard SG capture tool as well.
>>2095633The ultimate late game capture method is always going to be psi. Even things that are supposed to be uncapturable machines only have 200 psi defense which can be beaten by sufficiently powerful blitzgals with lots of commendations.
>>2095697I won't bother unless I'm on gray with sorceress armors. Besides, you'll just crash the game if you try to capture some uncapturables.
>>2095700What is uncapturable anyways? Apparently you can even catch Sectopods alive.
>>2095704Golden saints are the "will crash the game" uncapturable kind.
IIRC blacksun humanists also had something crash happy, maybe the hitlur ghosts or warpsoldiers.
>>2095697That said, on JS the enemy stat boosts make it more trouble than it's worth for most of the late game enemies. Better to just rely on brute force/stasis grenade spam.
>>2095700>>2095711You definitely don't need anywhere near sorceress to capture stargods. Basic max stats in power armor with no buffs can do it, and with commendations you can do it fairly consistently at mid range. Especially if you're using the herder staff with a high (>110) bravery, though this means you need LoS.
Sorceress is for capturing 200 psi defense tanks that are supposed to be mindless and uncapturable. Star gods have 20% of VSkill, 100% of VPower, 33% of morale as psi defense, which works out to 132 psi defense on jack sparrow.
>>2095729Guardians don't really count as Star Gods, though. Capturing them isn't hard (and they have literally 0 skill). Operatives and Coordinators have higher stats and their VDef counts bravery as well.

How's the time crunch in XPZ? I'm just wondering what sort of clock I'm on.
XCF was pretty explicit about the two year deadline to get your shit together.
>>2096252>I'm just wondering what sort of clock I'm on.none if you dint trigger bs
>>2096180It better be considering how fucking tedious is the priss thing to get it from.
>>2096412That's not the only way to get FNDs.
>>2096415It's not? I skipped a few versions so I might be not up to date on new shit. So where else you can get this?
>>2096420I don't remember but I already had one before I did the priss complex
You can also manufacture them.
>>2096422Oh that's cool because I don't plan on doing priss ever again. I'm sick and tired of all those multi stage shitholes with hundreds of enemies.
>>2096252Well your piratez are about 600 years late for that deadline. You're not on a clock against a current event.
In Piratez you start at the bottom and it only gets easier aside from a few difficulty spikes. But most of challenges are triggered by your activity unless you're playing on max difficulty, which you shouldn't. There are some passive changes to enemy shipping during the first 3 years, but most things happen in reaction to shit you do.
Just try to keep your score positive each month. That's the main pressure mechanism forcing you to push forward. There are no hard time limits.
Most missions don't have a score penalty for skipping them like in Files. Never delay researching !new missions!, they open up new opportunities. Research is a major positive contributor to your score. Enemy shipping activity is a major negative. You start with no way to shoot anything down and very limited radar coverage.
>>2096252>XCF was pretty explicit about the two year deadline to get your shit together.Even the XCF time crunch is a lie. The invasion ramps up so slowly that the warning at the start of the game doesn't even mean anything.
>>2096456>challenges are triggered by your activityTrue but you never know WHAT is going to fuck you up and HOW. The first playthrough is always frosted with delicious confusion.
>>2096561Yeah but we don't tell that to the new players. The impending invasion start date sets the tone very nicely.

>>2096561Funny enough I once got an alien base assault the December before the two year mark. Easily defeated though. Then the aliens basically never showed up for several months.
>>2096252XPZ progression is mostly based on your rank and tech progression. There are some mission weighting changes but its mostly trivially easy month1-tier stuff getting much less priority after a year or so.
>>2096636I recommend setting your display filter under video settings to Raw*
>>2096633I once thought the same and tried the start early mod to enjoy the early game longer.
It was awful.
>>2096597I'm not saying you shouldn't still treat it like a time crunch. I fight like hell to get as many things wrapped up before the invasion anyway.
But like, the only alien that show up early that you can't kill (easily) with conventional weapons is the Gazers, basically. Terror missions can be ignored, and so on. The 1st jan 1999 basically just means ufos start spawning.
Is the last sentence true? And what creatures would that be?
>>2096704>>2096597If you get a random lucky landing or govt shootdown, fighting sectoids is a massive "oh fuck" if you're used to vanilla.
Did you know you can ctrl right click items and it shows you how many of it you have in all bases at once? I didn't, until I found it out by accident just now.

Magnums, magnums and more magnums. Seriously you can use the upgraded magnums with smart bullets basically forever vs. anything less than power armor that isn't heavily shielded vs. piercing. And do keep shotguns around for zombies.

>>2096981You can get weapons capable of beating MERCs and Stargods like 4 months into the game. The issue is not knowing what they are, or not having them on hand when the base attack hits.
>>2096844Suppressed pistols with around 110 reactions actually out-DPS tommy guns, even on autofire. Granted you can potentially get a tommy by day 2 but it is a bit RNG while suppressed pistols are guaranteed pretty quickly with bounty tokens so I'd say suppressed pistol is too good.
>>2097057So what do I do with one? Give it to a naked goblin smeared in camo paint and let her pop heads?
>>2097061For gobbos longcoat is what you want, for the camo (nudist technically gives more reactions and same camo but no inventory so it sucks). For gals camo paint is the best early option due to the insane +35 reactions. Though you can also combine it with a shielded armor for both (slayer/shield is great for gobbos on cave missions).
Assuming you're training reactions well (letting people react as much as possible and getting trigger happy) you should get to your stat cap way, way before any other stat is maxed, due to how the stat gain system works.

I love X-PirateZ so much.
I love the item sprites, I love the music, I love the character sprites, I love the sound effects, I love the bootypedia, I love the rules that bind them together into a game. One second you're listening to music from Astrorock and the next you're blasting your enemies with Doom plasmagun to the tone of Deus Ex death screams. The next day you're discovering more Fate/Stay Night characters in the plot while listening to a remix of legendary F777 newgrounds music. And somehow it all fits together.
X-PirateZ takes so much of the good stuff from gaming and internet culture from the past decades and merges them into something greater than the sum of its parts. Despite all the references and content borrowed from everywhere, its got its own engaging lore.
I wish there were more games like this. Not afraid of copyright trolls, just tapping into all the great stuff to create more goodness.
>>2097379location makes it less likely to be spotted by scouting craft. it does nothing to protect you from scripted crackdowns. the only way to secure a base is to build defenses
>>2097380I am near the end of the game, assembling the conqueror. It took me this long to realize fights have mostly played the exact same since the start, only with more tools. Very few upgrades have felt like so, and most times I got something that might actually be an objective upgrade, it proved not to be. Frankly, not even the better armor felt like they did that much of a difference, since the enemy escalations have pretty much kept on part with my own, or the newer stages usually just invalidate most of my research (Zero-G, Shadowlands, Underwater to a lesser degree). I'd argue only two upgrades that have felt substantial have been flying armors and lasers. Voodoo too but freshness makes it very restrictive. which to be fair is probably a good thing.
What I'm trying to say, is that for as much as the tools I have available have changed, the game has not. I'm honestly pretty sick of the game by now, and I just want it to end.
>>2097393Kinda forgot to put this in there.
TL;DR: Game is too long for it's own good. I feel it should've been over an ingame year or so ago. Too much of it is early game padding, too.
>>2097393I've gotten there many times and wish there was more.
>>2097395But that's my beef with this. It's not "more" content, it's the same content over and over. Shoot down a freighter, assault a cargo ship landing, do a terror mission maybe, here's a shadowlands/underwater base. Here's a mission only doable by lokknars or humans or fucking dogs. Here comes another zombie stage, have fun killing doom mooks again. It's the same shit over and over.
I know I can just ignore that shit, but them I'm staring at my screen, ignoring mostly everything as I wait for the days to pass. Fights against marsec or the star gods don't really play any different than fights against other factions. We all just have bigger caliber guns now.

Has anyone here playd Piratez without soldier diaries?
It would be a different experience without the massive stat gains that your A-team accumulates from commendations. Maybe less fun. But at least your saves would be 90% smaller.
>>2097330>Well yould you look at that, things that the nightflyer is great at.No, it's trash. Slayer has better armor, especially with a shield, and is earlier in the tech tree. Nightblade gives a huge reaction bonus for more damage and enough camo to be practically invisible in night while being roughly at the same place (also built in poisoned dagger and TU leech means you can handle any kind of powered armor).
>>2097461Why does save size concern you?
It would be a huge nerf, might actually make the late game feel balanced. It's not really an A-team thing either, B-teamers start to be noticeably better after a few dozen missions.
>>2097461I remember long enough ago condemnations didn't give stats they were just there just cosmetic medals given to your soldiers. And it honestly should've stayed that way, maybe there should be a small bonus at level 10 but not this mess that we have now.
>>2097474Now only save size but soldier diaries' effect in general.
It's what makes everything slower. I/O is much faster now with the new yaml serializer but there's still noticeable lag spikes whenever commendations get recalculated.
>>2097402You're right. There's lots of great things about Piratez, but it badly needs an editor, both to cut out redundant content (Coming Soon: Even More Fucking Necroplanes!), and also to curb Dioxine's worse tendencies, particularly his extreme reluctance to actually allow the player to feel powerful (Finally unlocked the best armor? You won't actually want to use it to make 'normal' missions faster/easier, because of the needlessly increased freshness drain!).
>>2097490>cut out redundant content (Coming Soon: Even More Fucking Necroplanes!)Nah, he's gonna lengthen the lowtek earlygame until they are necessary.
...While at the same time planning to expand the lategame until there's content all the way to outer solar system.

Aaaand in case you didn't know, there's already multiple Mars missions. Not just the endgame.
Plus there's like 5 different alternate endings in various stages of completion. Not just the original conqueror route.
What is even there to do after killing the Brain on Mars? Why is there still an invasion without the Brain even?
>bottlenecks within bottlenecks
>>2097461Could be interest, but I feel like that would hamper a lot of the inherent fun of the game. It's super powered mutants+other variant mutants punching up vs established hegemonies. Kinda kills the feel when a guild leader just innately has comparable stats to your gals, and he isn't threat simply because he's blinged out in power armor and plasma while you're beating him over the head with a sledgegammer.
>>2097497That's pretty awesome.
>>2097589It is and I really dig what's Dio's done with the original XCOM in Piratez canon.

>>2097479What are you running on? Everything is instant for me.
>>2097475I think its generally fine, it sets an expected cap that you can train soldiers up to quickly in a few missions and then lets you slowly and with diminishing returns improve the soldiers over time. This makes sure that losses still hurt but don't kneecap you.

>>2097797Slaves do provide cash, they just do it through the medium of a negative upkeep, and it's a fairly minimal amount. Workers cost you money though, yeah. I'd not get those unless I really need the storage immediately and can't get it by shipping slaves around.
>>2097823I've been thinking recently that slaves maybe a waste of time, it just takes so many clicks and micromanagement to get these while you can hire hundreds of workers in seconds. I was thinking about making a pure storage base with gold codex and its infinite glamour, hire like a million workers and just push contraband for possibly enormous profits?
I do believe this strategy was somewhat nerfed but maybe it still has potential.
In terms of income slaves are close to worthless and generally take a year or multiple years to pay back the cost of not selling them immediately + the runt time for making slave out of them. So they are mostly only useful for storage. What slaves do get you is the items for robbing them as well as glamour, so they'll help you farm glamour if you need it.
Workers are interesting now. They are worthless to have around, but the projects that convert prisoners to workers also now gives cultural wealth which can be easily converted into land deeds which are even better at creating your storage now. So making workers and immediately getting rid of them might be optimal now
>>2097827The usual midgame strat of mass farming slaves is no longer necessary due to early land deeds.
>>2097879>the projects that convert prisoners to workers also now gives cultural wealthFirst they censor mutant porn and now they make slavery a bad choice.
I fear for the soul of Piratez.
>>2097884Wdym slaves are still good, you can just release them.
It used to be you could sacrifice slaves for demonic essence but now you can only sacrifice lost souls sadly.
>>2097978It used to be that slaves were a necessary evil for storage space while you were still a bumbling band of clueless horny retards. Now you can get directly into land ownership and acquire cultural wealth way early, before you even stop targeting civilian shippings. It's a tonal shift that doesn't quite match the level of sophistication of your operation at that point.
But gameplay-wise, I'm just happy to have land deeds earlier. Hoarding cultural wealth until slave emancipation was annoying.
How do I craft photonic weapons? I researched them, but I don't see the option on my manufacturing list, even as a missing faculties tag.
>>2098196Oh, that fucking sucks. What's even the point then?
>>2098197The point is you getting fucked by enemies wielding them.
>>2098197You can't mass produce them but you can use whatever you find. In Piratez you also have to unlock star god weapons before they're usable. They're more common in Files.
I can't stay interested in Files and I hate that. The early game just feels weird
>>2098360what seems to be the problem?
also if you can't enjoy files early and mid then the mod just isn't for you.
the charm dies real bad when the invasion begins
>>2098372Yeah, for real. The alien invasion is just a slog in XCF with how you need to capture like 50 engineers or something to unlock the tech tree. There might be 0, might be 1 on a ship and they might die in the shootdown so its a whole lot of fuck yous to get through.
>>2098372This, you play XCF for that X-Files and conspiracy vibes
>>2098360The early game is the most fun part. You start with two shitty sub-vanilla agents (or an agent and a dog) in a rented car. Six months down the line, you're raiding paramilitary compounds full of roided-out slavs with a helicopter. Another six months later, you're using miniguns to clearcut forests and demolish the walls of cult outposts.
>>2098440What's ironic is that capturing enemies is so much more important in XCF than XPZ, yet it's so much more agonizingly difficult. Clearing Cydonia with the BFG felt liberating though.
>>2097402This is a flaw of a lot of tactical games. It's difficult to make interesting enemies and set up interesting tactical situations. Especially late game where there's only so many ways to make an enemy powerful and you have set up a perfect well-practiced team capable of taking on anybody with the same tactics. You can only get that feeling of variety in the early game when there are missing tactical options on both sides. Personally, the fun of X-com and its mods comes from the power shifts and new options with new weaponry and enemies. Once you've played these games once you've seen everything there is to offer. I guess that's why the codexes exist in the first place. And of course there's the "fill the map with a billion chaff" problem.
>>2098652And yet, when you think of it you realize piratez does a better job at it than basically anything else on the market...
It's amazing how far we've come from vanilla xcom despite staying very close and faithful to it mechanically. It was a much simpler game, never designed for the longevity of megamod campaigns.
Stuff like expanded damage types, shield scripts, starting conditions and commendation bonuses don't change the feel of the core gameplay much but largely eliminate the problem of getting into dull grind where you fall into one trick and never change. It's insane how much variety is wrung out of vanilla-faithful gameplay with different enemy, soldier and mission types. And even when you have something that Just Works(tm) the mechanics incentivize you to change things up, to improve your soldiers' stats with new commendations if for no other reason.
And if you ever get tired of how vanilla's core tactical gameplay feels, you can get a completely different experience from the same rules and the same content with Brutal OXCE.
It's just amazing what's been done with oldcom. Such a good game. Gaming devolving from a nerd hobby into mainstream normalfag slop was a tragedy. 99% of modern games in any genre are just flashy crap that can't hold anyone's attention for more than hours and feel hopelessly outdated in a few years. Meanwhile oldcom is going stronger than ever after decades. Timeless masterpiece.
Bu that's just the tactical side. I feel that OXCE still has a ton of untapped future potential on the strategy side.

So what's the fucking point of choosing the cat path now? You used to get earlier puma twins, now they are removed from the game. You used to get more/earlier ace pilot events, now their benefit is removed from the game.
You get the same shit scraps of content for cats on every non-cat path anyway. THere's nothing unique left to the path.
>>2101273What about early golden guns, nekomimi marksman laser or firefox? Do these count for nothing?
>>2101282What "early" golden guns? They are already irrelevant past the first 9 months. By the time you can buy them, you don't need them. You usually unlock the ability to manufacture them at around the same time as the trade deal anyway.
Marksman laser is utter trash. Firefox is too expensive to use on non-baby difficulties, and it has dogshit battlescape model.
All other paths get something that stays relevant in the late game, cats don't, because that something used to be ace pilot suits.
Is there a way to type non-keyboard characters in-game? Like the plus-minus symbol, trademark symbol, etc. Graphical fonts have a bunch of these unicode symbols that I want to use for marking soldiers. Golden SMG is one of the better SMGs available and can cope-assist at wearing down armor. Golden Chaingun is also really good. The lower RoF ones are kinda bad and should scale better since they shoot less.
Generally agree that cats were overnerfed and should get some special transformations or something for their path. And there should be some reason to use them as pilots rather than Lokks which absolutely dominate right now, which makes no sense as they are underground specialists and don't even have ships.

>>2101374Let's see, on my soldiers:
Kustom SMG: 58 damage, 30% TUs for 50% Acc x3 snap shot 11 range
Golden SMG: 54 damage, 30% TUs for 70% Acc x3 snap shot 15 range
So at 15 range you'd gonna have around 70% Acc rather than 40% which is almost twice as much damage.
Then Golden SMG has a 6x autoshot which is still more accurate than the kustom SMG and will deal more than twice as much damage.
Also Kustom SMGs are hard to find if you aren't collecting them since Feb due to jack sparrow difficulty starting the fight vs them early.

Higher snap range than most rifles and sniper rifle damage calculation on a pistol. Even the commando rifle doesn't have 50-200% roll for some "balance" reason.

>>2101513the multilaser sentinel sucks donkey balls compared to the lascannon one. don't even bother.
>>2101508Yeah, Smart Magnum is OP, what's new? Magnums are obtained like 4 months in and are better than 90% of weapons until you have to deal with shields or power armor. At least SMGs offer similarly high damage and have a big autofire option for when you're afraid of rolling a low magnum hit and getting reactioned. You should be able to one tap personal armor with a golden SMG autofire at short to middish range.
>>2101611It's on smart ammo, not smart guns. Smart ammo is tiny guided missiles that seek vitals, so they can't fail to damage. Smart guns shoot normal bullets, they just have aim assists.

>>2101720i don't agree with this either
the multilaser one has terrible range and no snapshot
lascannon sentinel can be gotten on the first tier of acquisitions and it has snapshot and range to fire across the map, killing enemies in a single hit, if they are 'little to no armor'
lascannon sentinel will kill more enemies in almost every situation, and it remains useful as enemies become tougher (which is almost every enemy after the first 3 months of ROSLIGMA.)
>>2101670If we define "worse than magnums" as bad then almost every weapon in the game is bad. So why pick on golden guns?

Let's say early game you start with peasants they have dogshit aim in the 30-35 range, shotguns or smgs? Explain your choice.
>>2102319Shotguns are always better if you're close range with awful aim, especially for things like zombies. With dogshit peasants you're best off camping next to a corner with a shotgun and waiting for things to come at you. SMGs are for pushing your effective kill range out to roughly the extents of night vision range and require decent aim to do this. They also step up to tackle middish armor.
>>2102311The highest DPT weapon class at those ranges is melee, movement cost included.
>>2102319The 30 aim peasants get shotguns, on the basis that SMGs require more skill to hit anything at medium range, and the very early ones aren't actually any more damaging than shotguns at point blank range.
A few tech tiers up, though, SMGs might be better than shotguns if you can do a burst attack from two tiles away, and around 50 skill a peasant might have a chance to hit enemies at long range, at least some of the time.
>Does that mean the game is really well balanced?I would say yes.
>>2102319you don't have any smgs in the early game. Also shotguns are heavier
>>2102425Skorpion SMGs are a hidden gem. For month 1 trash loot they're pretty unique in that they set targets on fire and cause morale loss via normal piercing damage rather than burn damage or using the even weaker fire damage range.

Guess I'll call it quits for now. Shitty since it seems the corpses didn't carry over and now I won't even get to research them. Extra shitty since I do not have the interest left to stick around for two more years. I've been wanting the game to be over for a while now, even. I'll just move on.
First time making it to the late game though. Feels like the game shines best in the early-mid, when you first get flying armors. That's definitely when I had the most fun.

Ok nevermind, I did get to keep the corpses.
Still, I spent 5ish hours for this.
>>2102716>it seems the corpses didn't carry over and now I won't even get to research themYou do get everything from multistage missions when you finish the last stage.
>>2102716>>2097497>Extra shitty since I do not have the interest left to stick around for two more years. I've been wanting the game to be over for a while now, even.According to this guy, the game is going to become even longer than it already is. If that happens, I'm making this my last campaign.
>>2102614>Because the game is also designed to punish you for overstaying on a stage. My mage is already useless for spending all her freshnessThat's a freshness problem. Adding freshness was a mistake.
It doesn't add much to the game and still causes edge cases like this.
>>2102724So, how is Tiny Molester?
What are her stats, commendations, weapons of choice, etc?

>>2102806And here's her loadout for the priss mission. The AP rockets were the only tool I had that seemed to work against the cyborgs.
I usually have her carry a force blade and a smart magnum, tho.
>>2102806charmy dancer definitely fits her name

Oh.
I'm technically still an update behind, but I doubt the latest one continued this plot?
>>2102846That's a generic WIP cutscene that's been used in multiple versions, what was the last thing you did with her?
I want to commission someone's favorite/cool looking loadout
Gimme some screens

>>2102854Sure. I really like my assault catgirls.
>>2102856>The Stygian Nexus>cutscene no Further Content CutsceneLooks like that route still ends at the same point in N13.
I really like slayer rounda with Linux smgs
>>2102806>birthday cake 5>114 missionsAnon please let your gals out more often or they get the sads :(
>>2102854(Don't actually do this)
Thinking about a new run, how much has the game changed since N7? That seems to be the last version I played.
>>2102883Ninja war is now optional except on max difficulty
Less boss rank govt crackdowns
Captain personality has turboautistic amount of new options
New diverging path (bugeyes)
New TFTD content
Aurora content has been expanded, I think all routes are (almost?) finished
Some of the Dr.X/Red Mage routes have gotten more content (gudrun knight route is finished)
Lots of smaller additions. New generic maps, new craft, new weapons, etc.
All radars are now hyperwave, you can now make more than one menace, cats are getting worse, lokks are getting better.
>>2102891>All radars are now hyperwaveWhat the fuck? Why?
>>2102896Why not?
It just changes early game to be more transparent.
All radar ranges were also buffed a bit.
>>2102891Also storage issues are pretty much gone now that you can make land deeds in the first year.
>>2102899Oh yeah that's a huge one too. Early land deeds and early cultural wealth.
How do I use the blood dragon outfit?
>>2102972wdym? just give it to a hero and let em rip
pairs well with fast melee weapons like special daggers
it also has special attacks that are guaranteed to kill pretty much anything biological
it is rather squishy but has rapid hp regen and full mission end regen
that makes it fun to play with but risky
not ideal when facing serious firepower
>>2102997Ah so like blitz armor a little then?
>>2103002yeah it's blitz on steroids with hp regen
the end mission regen makes it feel more like a syn tho
no more sick days
>>2102866At some point it's better to train new blood than field capped gals that will barely get some extra condemnations.
