>>2102565 (OP) New to TW so tried the remastered version of this It still feels really ancient and I hate how there are only two songs on the campaign map which are both really slow and dreary Probably would appreciate it if I played it when it was first released back in the Mesozoic Era but in 2025? Hell fucking no, I much prefer Shogun 2
>>2102586 >Oldfag Thanks anon. That's the first time I've ever been called that. And since I'm a Brit bong. It'll probably be the last. It means something. But yeah barbarian invasion was fine. Medieval 1 was good. The rest good I suppose to meh. Never played Alexander. I suspect it was shit from what I've heard.
>>2102797 Tbh honest I am a zoomy. Just my brother had the game. And then I got it too. Funny thing is it fried my brain when I was 13, I just spent so long playing it that it gave me a headache that last week's and after that I was a retard. Still a pretty good game though. The pan Galactic gargle blaster or games.

>>2102767 2 songs? There were far more. But then again I am reliably informed that you are an AI spam bot.

>>2102565 (OP) >cities with actual population >agents that actually do something >smaller detachments were a thing >no health pools we had no idea how good we had it at the time yeah it had problems, like stupid anachronistic egypt or pathing issues but boy do they pale in comparison to crap we were served after s2
>>2102838 why? the battle ai sucks so bad. its clear that rome is the turning point where the OG devs who worked on the original battle engines left or were pushed aside to focus on other priorities. i'll admit to you it has spectacle and wow factor but after skirming with the AI in med/sho1 and having it actually retreat because it doesn't think it will be able to win the battle blows having the ai suicide one unit after another until the battle is over
>>2102868 Believe it or not, a game is more than just its AI. I will admit that the AI has never been better than in Shogun/Medieval, but considering all other factors and elements (strategic map gameplay, unit/faction variety, graphics, UI, soundtrack, sound effects), I genuinely believe that Rome is the superior product.
>>2102936 this. you get invested in the characters, the cities your empires. if it was just about battles and AI superiority, id play a different game. its the combination of a campaign that gets you personally invested in the story of your kingdom. something that the stat-focused newer total wars managed to lose and something the older games never quite had.

>>2102767 The remaster sucks. It's just a shitty mobile game that erases much of what made the original good. Its only benefit is bigger modding capabilities, everything else about it is shit. Just play the original
>economy investments are a hidden poison pill that will ruin your game 30 turns later nah it's shit

>>2103951 >The remaster sucks remaster doesnt suck. >muh ui and other shit that doesnt matter! works on new machines 60 FPS. still has the same gameplay, still has the weighty combat, cities with pops, characters that dont level up like some dumb RPG. the things that actually matter.
>>2104123 >works on new machines 60 FPS. runs on my laptop 5fps vs the original running at buttery smooth 60fps why does it run worse? i thought it was supposed to be a remaster that ran faster
>>2102834 Anachronistic Egypt rocked. It gives Egypt the exotic flair the Romans would have viewed it with, and after marching through the Greek Cities, Macedon, and (whatever scrap is left of) the Seleucids I'm getting a little sick of Hellenistic factions. Fighting bronze age retards on chariots makes for a delightful change of pace.
>>2104341 >whats your excuse for the original running like poo on my new machine you have to downgrade to patch v1.5 and install something like dxwrapper because ca have deliberately left the game in a broken state to push you to buy the shitty remaster
>>2104350 i was under siege by the sassanids and the sassanids kept running singular units into my units and then they would rout and another guy would get sent in and they would rout over and over until every unit had routed several times and had heavy losses

>>2104123 The remaster sucks a dick. It's as bad as those 2021 GTA remasters. Shiny and new, much higher processing limits. But looks like shit, plays like shit, and is enjoyed by no one.
>>2102565 (OP) The original Medieval TW was better. I prefer the abstracted "chess-pieces" overworld movement design and Risk-like map.

>>2104439 >plays like shit, and is enjoyed by no one. its literally the same gameplay as the original, which is funnily enough one of peoples biggest complaints about it, and it still has more players on steam than the OG. (inb4 actually there are a gorillion players off steam!) if nobody plays the remaster according to you, then nobody enjoys playing the original either.
>>2102565 (OP) The reason why rtw is better is due to mods. I've been playing this game for almost 20 years and I can guarantee you that mods is the only reason.

>>2104628 >most people did get the original retail copy Right, before steam took off. People moved onto Med 2, they lose their CDs, hell most computers dont even come with disk drives anymore. I highly highly doubt its more than one thousand more CCU, if that. RTW 2 is the best selling and most popular history title, steam only, and that still only has 6k peak CCU. So there arent that many more people off steam as you think there is.
