I'd argue that castle and monastery are the two easiest ones you can immediately spot, since the first one has those large brown lines alongside its border and the latter has the AoE1 relic being buried under it, but blacksmith being T-shaped archery range being a big L are also pretty immediate to spot

Their early eco is definitely good and their lancers are pretty spooky, but a ball of fast moving relatively tanky murder machines that can effortlessly dive trebs and kite anything that isn't a direct counter is the main reason people aren't afraid to go late with a civ that has very little in the way of unique bonuses or techs for Imp (extra Hussar HP is nice but without final armour they're nothing special, and they don't really compare to farimba/stirrups/Poles/Jurchens)
The only apt comparison would be release Monaspas, which caused endless seething and were quickly adjusted into strong-but-not-OP territory because of muh DLC powercreep bitching, courtesy of Reddit
Recurve Bow heavy cavarly archers are prob the only unit that you could make and argument for being better than mangudai. As it stands magyar HCA is the second best unit in the game.

He has to focus-fire since you have halbs or another meatshield in front. If you have four onagers he splits into two control groups and shoots two volleys each you're done, plus your shots are easy to avoid. If you get eight scorps for the same price (or a lot more if you count the cheaper upgrades) he's gonna have to do more of that, while taking shots that are harder to avoid. Might even snag on some stray halbs if he tries to split more. If he doesn't split he's gonna lose half the army before doing eight volleys.
The hard part is forcing him to fight this comp in the first place as you're super slow. But then so are mangos.

You can put stars on civs in what looks like a some kind of "favorite" system, but there doesn't seem to be a way to filter to only see starred civs. And the stars disappear next time I open the game.

Most of the obvious choices like "le infantry.. but good against archers?!" and "le archers.. but good against cav?!" have already been done so I'd assume it's a pretty tough job without resorting to gimmicks or "it's a reskin of a regular unit with a slightly different bonus damage profile"
I still want to see a civ get an obviously overtuned unit that only costs gold, with its main gimmick being that you either win within the first 10 mins or you're fucking done.

>>2114482That has been a thing since AoK, back when the Teutonic douche was a thing and outranged other TCs. It's an easy fix, restrict Persian TCs and Docks get HP bonuses to Feudal onward. But the devs clearly want to keep it in some manner as a vestige and it's not like the strategy is without caveat. I can only see a nerf happening if it becomes refined and everyone begins doing it.

I only boot aoe2 from time to time and try to finish something on hard, i either fail miserably or it takes me 6hours to finally manage while constantly save loading. never touched anything related to multiplayer
