EU5 actually has mana. It's called Ducats. Pops are completely irrelevant. All your income and demand for goods comes from buildings. Your country exponentially scales according to how much money you make with no regard for how fast your population grows or promotes. Also, manpower is still infinite and has no connection to pops.

They can be mostly ignored yes since for the most part you are either limited by gold to build buildings or building cap instead of raw pops in a location. Sometimes pop promotion is also a bottleneck though. In the early game I suppose they do contribute to levies but I feel like even that is mostly decided by other factors than just raw pop count.
I think if they tuned the employee demands of buildings up a lot it would be better. 150 buildings x 1000 pops a building would only be 150k still which would prevent mega capitals in early game but still not be a problem for more populous areas in later stages.

The cost is just 400 x their power x multipliers. If you want to make it cheaper the best way is to raise your crown power since that's away from all the estates but if you can't you can try to grant a privilege that helps to the other estates which balances out the nobles power with the rest. You can also try to remove their power directly with other means like firing their councilors and generals and lowering their population by removing castles and other buildings that grant noble jobs. There's a pretty good bonus for removing privileges in the parliament so wait couple parliament cycles and see if it pops up for the first removal. Regardless of which privilege you actually want to get rid of remove the one that gives the most power first so the rest are easier to remove later.

I did that and it was a mistake, not because of unions. Think of vassals like vassals in CK2 or 3. They’re really integral parts of your kingdom that you’ve given to feudal lords to govern. When I had family members own earldoms in my land and the inherit the throne, it just becomes a fiefdom of the new monarch. So now your ruler is King of England and Earl of wherever as his fief.
The reason that it’s a mistake is because you don’t get to manage the household of your family members running a vassal and you can’t put those people in your cabinet. It’s better to keep them around as courtiers, marrying them off and educating them to max out stats and get good people for cabinet positions. Your same dynasty in a cabinet position or leading an army increases crown power.

I think Iberia's big enough that it needs about 3 markets, this is because of 1) market access, if you condense it down into one then stuff on the fringe might not be making as much money as it could and 2) the markets will trade between each other and stimulate their economies.
