Yeah, the divergence between Gaeilge/Gàidhlig/Gaelg is a fairly recent one, and it's not that hard for speakers to communicate with each other. But you won't get many Irish people claiming that Ireland speaks the same language as Scotland, since that would imply things about sovereignty.
