It's mainly this. Ellie has said she has worked on projects before with her friends so she sees it as that. She does really respect him and goes up to bat for him. Though there is something to be said with how Ellie acts around Vedal being lot more competitive over nerdy things and wanting to impress him. There is more but I think you get the idea. I do think the possibility for Ellie to actually get with Vedal is more likely than a lot others. She did say that if she didn't need worry about money she would spend day buliding robots with him, which honestly caught Vedal off guard.
