Taking you completely seriously and genuine right now, so bear with me. If you took both CookieSwirlC and Sameko Saba, their roommates, and you scrubbed their identities, gave them perfect opsec and a true indie budget, then neither would break 100k subs in all likelihood. They both benefit from previous fame, and both only got that fame initially through circumstances and luck, with only a tiny amount of talent. Neither of them are talentless, but they are causally redundant, because if it wasn't them it would have been the next random girl. Comparing Sameko Saba to literally any random female vtuber is disingenuous, because most of them could have been Gura and then you would be worshiping them instead. Which is why, even though you don't have an exact match, it is more reasonable to compare Sameko Saba to CookieSwirlC, even though CookieSwirlC is at a disadvantage due to not being associated with a big name corpo. All of CookieSwirlC's subs have to originate from her own personal effort, which is not the case for Sameko Saba who benefits from blue dorito even after graduation. That the comparison isn't completely fair doesn't mean that it's not reasonable to make that comparison though.
One day a vtuber will have a billion subs, and then what does this matter? Nobody will look back at the history books and say well this vtuber wasn't always a vtuber and this one had an unfair advantage and so on. It only matters so much now because people are invested in CookieSwirlC not being a vtuber so they can cope that the industry doesn't need to catch up.
