In this case the idol culture is kind of capping growth by limiting the ability to intermingle with the ACTUAL biggest crowd in the scene: male fleshy youtubers and streamers.
And then there's the fact that the western audience likes concerts, but not THAT much like the japanese do. Being a consistent streamer is far more important for that audience than taking several months to fly to japan and back to record 20 minutes for a paid, in-person show that 98% of fans won't be able to experience. Yes, the streams themselves don't make as much money, but they're far more important for actually gaining new paying fans.

This is of course on top of all the corporate shit and burnout.
