There are requirements for a company to be able to appear in stock market. They can't put a company in the red on there so that the investors can be scammed by throwing money into the pit

In Japan, the lowest rank is the growth market and it simply required you to not be broke. I don't know about the US one but I'm sure their requirement is at least "not broke"

I dont think it would have been possible. IIRC by this year it was outed on Twitter that they were 2 million in debt; it was the amount they owed both to talents and to their creditors. If they wasted 11 million in venture capital between 3 years to now and somehow ended up in debt with theoretically low business expenses, why would anyone want to buy them on the stock market?

You would essentially just be purchasing all their liabilities and a brand name because what assets exactly do they own? They don't have the IP for the characters, they don't own any content, they don't own any youtube channels or twitch channels. Where as if you invest in something like Cover or Anycolor you are buying into a hugely popular brand, with a whole host of lucrative IPs, all the physical assets they own like equipment for studios that can be a revenue stream in themselves, youtube, twitch, twitter, tiktok profiles with hundreds of millions of subscribers across them.

If we're being real, Cover and AnyColor don't really own their characters in a traditional sense. Sure, they retain all copyrights and trademarks even if the talents leave, but it's not like, say, Spiderman where they can just cast a new actor. The nanosecond any talent leaves, they can't do shit with it anymore, and they just have a useless model and name

Yeah its true that its not the same kind of IP ownership as traditional media but its still real and valuable. If another vtuber company tried to buy out Cover or Anycolor they would have to pay for the IP in the purchase of the company. Just like how Brave group goes around buying up smaller Japanese groups all the time like VSPO or whatever.

I don't actually think Gunrun went into this with the intention of scamming anyone. Its a common story these past few years
>interest rates are low and tech optimism makes VCs willing to throw cash around
>expand quickly because you're playing with other people's money
>VC money eventually dries up and your business model turns out to be completely unsustainable
>take increasingly desperate measures to keep the lights until the entire house of cards falls down

You aren't wrong, but buying into something like Cover or Anycolor would still guarantee many physical assets and there's still bound to many talents willing and eager to work; keeping the IPs alone is also enough incentive to make most people not want to leave when they know there is an uphill cost to starting over that may not pay off. Especially because as people like Doki have said, being an indie and still trying to do the amount of things you used to do at a corpo is a lot of hard work. There's a good reason why she still is not in a "total corpo death" mindset and still advocates for their continued existence.
Meanwhile what does Vshojo really have going for them? Even if they still kept the talent's IPs and they still had people working for them, their business model is so unsustainable that they would still be running in the red even after a buyout.

They didn't create anything that they own.

Even though they're messing it up, there's a reason Cover does HoloEarth and HoloALT. You don't need to keep the IP, but you do need to create something that's permanent. Vtubers are just there to shill products, and they're temporary. They can graduate at any time; even if you keep the IP, it's worthless when they leave. Why can't vtuber companies understand this? Make a product that is permanent. Something that will outlast the vtuber

Just like VR, crypto and NFTs this will be AI too.
AI is the biggest gamble civilization has ever made, to the point it's being framed as the next space race to get as much world government gibs as possible.

I agree with you, I don't doubt some creator-first agencies start with very noble intentions before the ugly truth of no capital gains rears its head. It's easy to call these execs scum but more often than not it's a case of living long enough to become the villain.

Even with the horrible financial track record, if they choose to go public when they were still solvent i have faith it would gave gone to shit like every other vtuber corpo that goes public.

Niji goes public, mass walk outs, canceled projects and the eventual blowout event.

Holo goes public, conditions worsen, talents walk but they at least keep the issues under wraps.

Nobody is there to tell management their 'good ideas' are not, in fact, good ideas. It's the opposite problem of what large corporations have, too much freedom.

But also pretending "talent first" guided their actions in any way, going public would destroy what was left of it
>our market research finds that you'll make more money if we stage identity politics on your cast, can you strongarm your talent into having pastel flag costumes and have Henya talk about asexuality?
>only 1 male in Vshojo? Lets balance that out with 10 gay men, 5 who're Somali immigrants
>in 2028 make sure they say orange man bad

If anything, going public would put VShojo in a lawsuit way earlier because they will have to explain where all that money go without committing accounting fraud

Going public costs a lot of money and if you don't have multiple rounds of funding behind you (looks like they only had one) few people will be interested anyway.

If they went public everyone would know how shit their financials actually are and they would've imploded even earlier
