She was deeply involved in everything, and got paid while everyone else didn't.
She's taking a long break to hide and figure out how to hide her assets and run.

Best case:
She's as blindsided by this as anyone. She didn't mention not getting paid because she's still reeling from shock.
She needs a long break because she lost her visa and urgently needs to handle that, among other things like reorganizing her financial affairs and payments.
