They aren't objectifying themselves. They're allowing a rigged up image of a character they voice to be objectified by their audience if they want, while they still have as much or as little anonymity as they want. And if they're willing participants in the 'objectification' of that character, then it isn't really demeaning. It's just part of the product they're selling to their audience.
This is also why I just shake my head at all of the "cuck" accusations on /vt/ - as though the people being milked for dollars by talking JPEGs of tits and ass are 'based' so long as their fantasy that the cartoon is genuinely into them hasn't been disrupted by reality.

Objectifying themselves would mean putting themselves beneath their viewers, which most are clearly not. The term here is idolised, which has the same dehumanising connotations but places them above their audience

Indie vtubers who choose a highly sexualized design are making that choice but it can still be embarassing. Even if the vtuber was okay with coomers getting horny for their boob jiggling model that is still a different issue than wanting it since they do have to consider whether the design will attract viewers.

With corpo vtubers though you have the added fact that many of them had zero creative input on their design and they had to use whatever the company gave them. Shion got the worst pedobait design in Hololive, Ina got the skimpiest outfit in Hololive, and Kronii got what is now the most sexualized design in Hololive. Cover had a vested interest in selling merch to coomers and in 2025 it's obvious that certain talents were not give a choice on whether their Hololive design was cute or sexy.
