I never understood this. I never understood the guy who married Miku, to me that could only be a joke performance.
But vtubers are not fictional, they are real people that actually exist, and you can actually talk to them. That is their curse and the nail in my coffin.
You can spend so much time with them. They know you are there and they respond back to you. Anime has a runtime of 4 hours per season, streams have 4 hours per day. They're an incomparably more potent drug.
But with enough time passing, you can free yourself from it, for the most part. Hopefully.

Well, this stupid thing about trying to not think about her is more on the time scale of years and playing a video game is lonely and unstimulating, to sit there waiting for animations and cut-scenes and queues and what have you is not going to distract me from anything, instead it would really let me savor the horrible feelings that I am on the run from every waking minute of my life as I become more and more aware of the vast quantity of time that I am wasting to have my chance of pressing the button the game requires me to, to feel my body waste away sitting idly in my chair burning calories that I will need to labor to purchase back.

I get bored of video games quickly often. They are very closely related to vtubing/streaming too, that's why I didn't recommend them. Any activity that you can keep your mind occupied with is good, if you found a game you were really into, it would be good.

But even though I say that, the breaking point for me was when I joined a vtuber's discord and everyone there was really mean to me, the vtuber called me annoying and the people tried to bully me… that was not my oshi but it was her friend. I don't know what brings all these evil people together, it was very unpleasant. I kept coming there a bit, Stockholm syndrome style, but at that point I stopped having fun watching any vtubers. Tried again with another girl, still didn't have that much fun and I was watching her more of a sense of duty than because I enjoyed it.

We are not the same, but I hope you can take something out of my experience, maybe.

I wonder about that. Sure, while I listened to Tsuki no Akari, I was not moved to tears, but I didn't feel that was wrong - she sang true to her own feelings. If she'd forced herself to sing it sadly, it would have been worse for being melodrama.
Her question at the end was odd, too. I don't think I've ever cared if someone sings a song many times. She changes up the order of her songs enough that the same pool can tell many different journeys.
