I'm a casual anime fan but I've been getting into it more recently. pic related is all the stuff I've seen and liked; I'm generally into anything from the 70s to the 90s. Anything past that gets a little too weebish for my tastes.
My favorites would have to be Evangelion, Angel's Egg and Ninja Scroll/Wicked City.

Heard of Tatami Galaxy but not the others.
Generally the more weird and artsy it is, the higher chance I'll like it eg the ending of Evangelion and Angel's Egg's atmosphere. Even stuff like Belladonna of Sadness is super cool

Here is a mech chart from /m/ that has a lot of recs before the 20th century. When in doubt go with Space Battleship Yamato.

could not get into this for the life of me. Maybe I just need a break or I need to branch out more to other time periods.
Heard good things about Ergo Proxy but Appleseed doesn't look all that interesting to me

Haibane Renmei has been on my radar for a bit; I'll check out the others. I think I might've burnt myself out on anime so I'll give it a break and come back to it. Right now it feels like I watched anything that was good and nothing else will ever come close to what I've seen

Dominion Tank Police
Macross Plus
Angel Cop
Tenchi Muyo Rioh-oki

You seem to really only watch OVAs and movies, not that there is anything wrong with that but you should dive into more tv shows to balance out some variety.

I don't mind series, they just take longer to download lmao
I've seen Death Note and Erased, both of which verge on being a tad too weebish for me. I definitely like the more artistic, experimental stuff and so far I've only seen movies (barring Evangelion) get like that. Ergo Proxy, Haibane Renmei, hack//sign, and Texhnolyze are on my radar, as well as Monster

Check http://youtube.com/@stevem he has documentaries on old anime series, and he also goes through more works from those directors from the anime you posted.

A group of anime nerds/friends worked together to create an animated opening video for the DAICON fan convention. Their video was good enough to get them financial support to where they went to create the anime production company GAINAX.

The video that started GAINAX

The sequel to Gunbuster is Diebuster. As with Gunbuster, watching all the way to the end thru the end credits works.

>A group of anime nerds/friends worked together to create an animated opening video for the DAICON fan convention.

Those DAICON III and IV sci-fi fan conventions were actually part of the Nihon SF Taikai (NSFT), Japanโ€™s national science fiction convention. The NSFT has a different name based upon where it is held. When the NSFT event was held in Osaka, it was nicknamed DAICON, which is where the famous Daicon III and IV Opening Animations came from. The creators of the Daicon III and Daicon IV animations later founded GAINAX.

The Nihon SF Taikai still exists today, but the DAICON name is only used when the convention is held in Osaka. The most recent DAICON event was DAICON 7 in 2008. In contrast, the most recent NSFT convention is the upcoming KamaCon which is officially the 63rd Nihon SF Taikai. It takes place at the Japan Engineering College in Kamata, Tokyo, on August 30โ€“31, 2025.

For this event, I sort of think of NSFT as being a SUBSET of KamaCon. KamaCon isn't a particularly wild fan-style science-fiction convention and its topics normally feature a lot "drier" and more serious techical topics applying near-future technical approaches. But I suppose KamaCon would also benefit a lot from having FAR more people attend than normal.
