Is it weird to say bye or good night to online only friends? I started making online friends again and it's unusual that people leave conversations without saying anything.

It's normal as long as you don't turn this habit into some sort of ERP.

if you genuinely don't know, then err on the side of caution and don't say goodbye unless you're in the middle of an active conversation. and even then just say "gotta head out, see ya" and just leave

It depends person-to-person. Both can be normal.
I have a friend who used to say he was going to bed if we were mid-convo, but since then I've encountered a lot of friends who don't, and they clearly don't mean any harm by it, otherwise they wouldn't have helped me with the things they've helped me with or stuck around me this long.

Depends on the context. If it’s an active conversation, it’s weird to abruptly stop talking without saying bye or giving a proper end to the discussion. But if it’s a kind of thing where you reply like a few times per day, or when you have time to see their messages and leave a reply, it’s a little weird to say good night unless you have that kind of relationship where the two of you regularly say good night to one another.
