Cheers, thanks. Looking at pictures of it now I'm not 100% sure it's what I need.

Mine looks like picrel with it opening outwards and the window portion at the top, All the pictures I'm seeing of the fan show it sitting at the bottom on the window sill, is it possible to have it hold itself up by having the sides press against the wooden window frame or even slot into the open gap itself?

There's a large indent in the wall of at least six inches where the window is, so I could have it brace against the sides maybe theoretically if it works by pulling out the sides until it's jammed against the wall or something. No idea if that's how it actually works or if you should ever have it in the air.

I don't believe that's how it works, the side fin things look like something that just slide out to let the fan completely block the window.
Anyways, just go to Home Depot or whatever equivalent and buy a single 2x4. Cut the 2x4 as needed and you can easily build a stand for your fan

You overestimate me. I'd probably need to ask questions dozens if not hundreds of times and slowly tease/torture myself through the process.
