My favorite stories are about a guy finding his purpose by going through hell to protect/save the love of his life. I really like it if the girl he loves is a strong and feisty woman who equally brings him up as he does her. I am dying for more stories like this, be it anime/manga/film/dramas/novels.

My go-to novel for this is "The Night Land" by William Hope Hodgson. It's hard to get into, but worth it. I re-read it every couple of years and the longer I'm married, the more sense it makes.
