TotalAV detected it after I ran the installer for the program I torrented, which I also scanned before running and it said no threats

Sounds like a false positive then. Run your assumed virus past Virustotal

Cracks and similar stuff usually use shady methods to achieve their goals. A lot of legit stuff ends up flagged by like 40% percent of scanners on virustotal. It's up to you to decide if you trust it, try to find the stuff you're looking for from a site trusted by many.
