I remember back in the day at the circus seeing a clown launch out of a cannon onto a pole. But I don't think he actually did. I remember thinking that there had to be two clowns. Ronald, Sandy the Tramp, Percy, Pierrot. Even Joker. Clowns are often portrayed as tragic characters. They bring childlike joy and wonder to others, but themselves struggle with happiness. It's a beautiful metaphor and anyone who pledges allegiance to universal JOY can relate.
Fear of clowns... is the absence of joy. Can't just be a normal guy trying to make you smile. But a sinister jester, or a serial murderer, or even an outright demon. The spiritually raped. Ones who assume there is no good in this world. Only doom. How easily can clowns be saddened by such patrons? Perhaps why the sad clown resonates with certain people.
