Even insects are telepathic. I can tell spiders to get out of my room with my mind.

Hitchhiker's Guide was partial disclosure but it's not so sci-fi. It goes back to the myth of the rainbow serpent, when "the Veil" solidified time and space many astral entities lost their lower selves and their divorced material forms became as mundane as any other animal. Dolphins and a few other creatures are remnants of this process which is the reason for their displayed intelligence and their ancient folklore history of talking like or shapeshifting into humans. For example whales are another and the powerful resonance they emit is vestigal from a time before time when producing such 'immaterial' frequencies achieved an immediate result in the physical world, what we now call magic.
