The best way to think of it is this: Abraham Lincoln is dead in a grave. From his perspective, he's still dying and in a place we cannot comprehend until we're in our own place.
This place will be confusing and likely frightening. Strange. Defiant of logical restraints. Indescribable. Your body plan will likely be wrong. You might have your legs spread apart at galactic distances while your head is compressed to an atomic scale. You will also likely not be aware that it is the afterlife, much like we are usually not aware you are dreaming.
